Dennis LEE Bell
SHELBY - Mr. Dennis Lee Bell, 60, of 113 Blackhawk Drive, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born July 18, 1941, a son of the late Jacob Garvis and Gladys Bridges Bell. He was a retired motor rewinder with Electric Motor Service and a member of the National Guard. He was a lifetime member of Green River Beagle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Earwood Bell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike and Frances Bell and Richard Bell, all of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori Ann and Dale Ledford of Cherryville; a brother, Doug Bell of Shelby; two sisters, Elaine Gettys of Gastonia and Jewell Kendrick of Kings Mountain; a granddaughter, Candy Bell of Shelby; and two grandsons, Dale Ledford Jr. of Cherryville and Jake Bell of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Revs. David Reep and Max Turner officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Roy Jackson
SHELBY - Mr. Roy D. Jackson, 62, of 1407 Lackey St., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William Edley and Selma Rollins Jackson. He was a retired barber and a member of Zoar Baptist Church, where he was a member of Barnabas Sunday school Class.
He was a member of Cleveland Lodge No. 202 A.F.&A.M. for 39 years. He served as Master in 1977 and served as secretary for the past 19 years. He was a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite. He received his KCCH in Carolina Consistory. He as a member of Oasis Shrine Temple, Past Patron of Shelby Chapter No. 110 O.E.S. and District Deputy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of N.C. Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hamrick Jackson of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Darlina Love of Shelby and Sherri and Marty Gambill of Boiling Springs; a brother, Robert Jackson of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; three sisters, Lillie Dolin of Barnwell, S.C., Margaret Horton of Clemmons and Ocie Brooks of Williston, S.C.; and six grandsons, Greg Love Jr., Jay Love, Donnie Love, Garret Gambill, Tyler Gambill and Tanner Gambill.
The funeral will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Gobble officiating.
Burial will be in Race Path Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends today one hour before the service at Zoar Baptist Church and other times at 1740 Lackey St.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Franklin D. Barnes of 1128 Baderoch Court died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Martha Hartsoe Dobbins, 74, of White Oak Manor, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Hope officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Joyce Randall Ramsey, 79, of 111 Sussex Ave., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Carolina Care Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery.

CROUSE - Mr. Lander "L.C." Carter Ford, 75, of 2793, St. Marks Church Road, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at home.

Burial will be in Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton with full Masonic Rites. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

ELLENBORO - Mrs. Ruby Lee Hoyle Jones, 96, of 241 Ledford Road, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Revs. Alvin Allen, Odell Cogdell and Joe Greene officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Craig Lowe
MOUNT HOLLY - Mr. Craig Hillman Lowe, 77, formerly of 1616 Charles Raper Jonas Highway, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A native of Gastonia, he was a son of the later Franklin Odell and Cornelia Craig Lowe. He was a retired chemist, served in the Army, was a former member of the Stanley Lions Club and a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Brooks Lowe; a son, Roger Graeme Lowe of Charlotte; a daughter, Sara Lowe McCall of Grover; and four grandchildren, Laurel Lowe, Craig McCall, Katie McCall and Ian McCall.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Drs. Dennis Knight and Robert Winecoff officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Suzanne McAulay
HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Mrs. Suzanne Arrowood McAulay, 67, died on Aug. 18, 2001, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
A native of Rutherford County, she was born Feb. 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Ralph Davis and Sue Gaffney Arrowood of Bessemer City.
She graduated from Kings Mountain High School and attended Appalachian State University School of Music. A pianist and organist, she later received her degree in childhood education from Sacred Heart College and taught at Clover Middle School in Clover, S.C., until her retirement in 1980. She was attending classes at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., as recently as June of 2000.
She is survived by a son, William Arrowood McAulay of Raleigh; a daughter, Catherine McAulay Ellison of Hampton Roads; three granddaughters, Laura Suzanne McAulay and Ashley Elizabeth McAulay, both of Raleigh, and Melissa Summer Duncan McCarley of Hampton Roads; and a grandson, Travis Bounty McCarley of Hampton Roads.
She willed her remains to medical science for the study of arthritis and the advancement of biotechnological treatment for cancer.
A memorial service will be Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at Long Creek Presbyterian Church in Bessemer City.

Peter Chernick
SHELBY - Mr. Alfred Peter Chernick, 71, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at his home.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Afanasy Chernick and Josephine Derbach-Chernick. He was retired from Northrop Grumman where he was a tool and die maker. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst, N.Y. He served in the Marine Reserve and was a member of the Photography Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Czekanski; and two sisters, Frances Iversen and Helen Alba.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Maria Chernick of Shelby; a son, Christopher Chernick of Succasunna, N.J.; three daughters, Virginia Belling and Kathryn Yodice, both of Lindenhurst, and Elizabeth Dillon of Shelby; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Eric Houseknecht officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.

GASTONIA - Mr. Earl Franklin Cook, 60, of 2110 W. Fifth Ave., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

RUTHERFORDTON - Ms. Pauline Williams, 84, of 301 Williams Road, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Howell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Franklin Barnes
SHELBY - Mr. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Barnes, 48, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Carolina Medical Center's Dickson Heart Center in Charlotte.
Born Aug. 26, 1953, in Shelby, he was the son of Thomas Barnes Sr. of Shelby and the late Sedell Amanda Barnes.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle Jackson of Houston; two brothers, Thomas Reid Barnes Jr. of Shelby and James Edward Barnes of Atlanta; four sisters, Beverly Amanda White of Charlotte, Margaret Sue Parks of Atlanta, Katherine Louise Lawrence of Orlando, Fla., and Barbara Ann Daggs of Pemberton, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at New Ellis Baptist Church, 1664 Eaves Road with the Rev. Albert A. Ponder officiating.
A graveside service will be at Web Memorial Lawn.
The body will be on view at the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends after the service at the home of a brother, Thomas Reid Barnes Jr, 421 Murdock Circle, Shelby.
