Dona Pruett
SHELBY - Mrs. Dona Elizabeth Newton Pruett, 89, of 1102 New Prospect Church Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born April 14, 1912, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Esper and Junie Cleo Hull Newton. She retired from the packing department of Bassett Furniture Company. She was a member of Clover Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Andy Pruett; six brothers, George Newton, Clifton "Tip" Newton, Roy Newton, Reid Newton, Forrest "Doc" Newton and Howard Newton; and two sisters, Maudie Short and Annie Bell Fortenberry.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andrew and Joan Pruett of Spartanburg, S.C., Boyd Pruett and his fiancee, Ann Hord, of Casar; and a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Jimmy Champion of Shelby; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ervin Price officiating. Burial will be in Clover Hill United Methodist Chuch Cemetery.
Gladys Hardin
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Gladys Green Hardin, 76, of 471 Valleyview Drive, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Padgett and King Mortuary with the Rev. Ricky Poteat officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Curtis Green
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Curtis R. Greene, 64, of 114 Urban Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Nellie Mae Patterson Green. He was retired from textiles.
He is survived by his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd "LV" and Adrene Green of Bostic, C.J. and Judy Green and Steve Green, all of Kings Mountain; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Martha Harrelson of Kings Mountain and Madge and Jack Wright of Grover.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Harris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountian Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Richard Rollins
SHELBY - Mr. Richard Rollins, of 757 Hampton St., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Lola Blanton
SHELBY - Mrs. Lola Cook Blanton, 91, of 412 Royster Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel P. and Martha Jane Self Cook. She retired from Shelby Mill Co. and belonged to New Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel Junie Cook, Aaron Cook, the Rev. Avery Cook and Noah Alexander Cook; and four sisters, Ethel Cook Griffin, Minnie Cook Glascoe, Mary Alice Cook Beam and Mittie Leila Cook.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Jeff Beckett, Reed Jones, Dan Wallace and Robert Andress officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour before the service, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ava Gardner
SHELBY - Mrs. Ava Cloud Gardner, 82, of 2542 Oak Grove Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Ransom P. and Kemmie Sain Cloud. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dwan V. Gardner; three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dean V. and Sheila Gardner of Shelby; two sisters, Edna Chase of Roanoke Rapids and Mary Lou Huffman of Morganton; two grandchildren, Brad Gardner and his wife, Julie, and Mark Gardner, all of Shelby; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Dean and Sheila Gardner, 2548 Oak Grove Road, Shelby.

Eddie Terrell
BALTIMORE - Mr. Eddie Louis Terrell, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at his home in Baltimore.
Born in Cleveland County April 29, 1929, he was a son of the late Randall and Hallener Terrell. He was an Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Terrell; five sisters, Minnie Bradley, Randy Lee Bostic, Mary Elder Williams, Albenia Toms and Nancy Wilson; and three brothers, Willie James Terrell, Jack Terrell and Ruben Terrell.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Benton of Baltimore; a son, Sandy Terrell of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Mitchell Terrell of Shelby; and a sister, Bernice Petty of Virginia Beach, Va.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Southern Baptist Church in Baltimore.

Gretel Anthony
SHELBY - Mrs. Gretel McSwain Anthony, 86, of 2202 Riverside Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
She was a daughter of the late Oliver Claudiaus McSwain and Daisy Ella Blanton McSwain. She belonged to Flint Hill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 23 years, sang in the adult choir 40 years and belonged to the Senior Adult Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Anthony Sr.; three brothers, G.S. McSwain, Everett McSwain and Purvis McSwain; and a sister, Mary Willa Barnes.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie Jr. and Sheena Anthony of Shelby; two grandchildren, John Robert Anthony and Timmothy Douglas Anthony of Shelby; three stepgrandchildren, Tywaina Kennedy, Nicole Kennedy and Ronnie Kennedy of Shelby; and one great-grandchild, Dustin Andrew of Greenville, S.C.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Keith Dixon and Ed Sessom officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Coley "Tump" Huss, 75, of 130 Dick Beam Road, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville.
A graveside funeral will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville, with the Rev. Jack Cooke officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Ethel Roper
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Ethel Elizabeth Daggerhart Roper, 93, of 1141 N.C. 108, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby West officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

VALE - Mr. John Ernest Sailors Jr., 71, of 132-2 Gantt Road, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Revs. Frank Lewis, David Coffey and Troy Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Wade Bridges
MOORESBORO - Mr. Wade W. Bridges, 88, of 537 Trinity Church Road, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Run Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Hendrick and Don Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jack Morgan
SHELBY - Mr. O. Jack Morgan, 72, of 1335 E. Marion St., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late O.Z. and Minnietta Foster Morgan. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was owner of Morgan & Co., Poly Recycling Inc., and co-owner of Modern Densifying Inc. Before entering the recycling industry, he was instrumental in the agricultural growth of Cleveland County through the operation of Morgan and Co.'s feed and seed business and cotton gin. A former director of the National Cotton Council, he also served the Cotton Council on the local and state levels.
He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and served with various Cleveland County civic organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Roebuck Morgan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Judge James W. and Page Morgan and Joseph H. and Jodi Morgan, all of Shelby; a daughter, Eleanor Morgan of Shelby; a sister, Saranan M. Brady of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Ruth Morgan of Shelby; two nieces, Serena M. Barry of Richmond, Va., and Mary M. Foster of Charlotte; and five grandchildren, Emily Morgan, Sam Morgan, Jay Morgan, Hill Morgan and Grady Morgan, all of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Reeves and Dr. Jeff Patterson officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
