Robert Barnette
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Robert Irvin Barnette, 72, of 526 Bridges Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Shelby, he was a son of the late David Greenberry and Sarah Cash Barnette. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was retired from Duke Power. He was the former owner and operator of A&B Builders.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Wallace Barnette of the home; a daughter, Violet Barnette Moss of Blacksburg; a sister, Ozelle Wortman of Gastonia; and a grandson, Robert Chadwick Moss of Blacksburg.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Revs. Marshall Foster and Edward Hutchinson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Gordon Mortuary and at other times at the home.

Dehlia Causby
SHELBY - Mrs. Dehlia Blanton Bowen Causby, 95, of 2015 Clay Road, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Belle Poston Blanton. She was retired from Lily Mill as a hand weaver. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and Mother's Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hoyle Bowen; her second husband, Joe Causby; a brother, Forrest Blanton; and a sister, Effie Scruggs.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Frances Bowen and Clyde and Pat Bowen, all of Shelby; a daughter, Ruth Preston of Shelby; a sister, Thelma Ellis of Shelby; two stepsons and their wives, Leonard and Anna Catherine Causby and Bryan and Irene Causby, all of Shelby; two stepdaughters, Myrtle Causby and Margaret Causby, both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Greg Bowen, Debbie McBrayer, Gregory D. Bowen, Van Bowen and Neil Preston; 10 great-grandchildren, Geoff Bowen, Jenny Faircloth, Cher Bridges, Chris Goodwin, Dani Bowen, Cayla Bowen, Karmyn Bowen, Gunner Bowen, Shelby Bowen and Roger Bowen; three great-great-grandchildren, Christie Faircloth, Kayla Mote and Ashley Bridges; five stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Dixon and Ed Sessom officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ruth Preston, 2013 Clay Road, Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2207 Flint Hill Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28152.

Maude Harmon
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Maude Allen Harmon, 78, of 181 Harmon Road, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at her home.
The funeral will be today at 3 at Concord Baptist Church with the Revs. Frank Hoyle and Paul Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends before the service from 2 to 3 at the church.
Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Fred McDaniel
FOREST CITY - Mr. Fred McDaniel, 86, of 118 Orchard St., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 1 at the Padgett and King Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Jane Curtis
SHELBY - Mrs. Jane B. Curtis, 63, of 212 W. Sumter St., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born March 23, 1938, the daughter of Alma Davis Blanton of Gaffney, S.C. She was a retired housekeeper at the Shelby Convalescent Home.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Jerry Chris Curtis of Shelby; a daughter, Kimberly Curtis Stroud of Shelby; four half-brothers, Dennis Blanton of Gaffney, Donald, Gary and Larry Powell, all of Shelby; two half-sisters, Wanda and Cathy Powell, both of Shelby; and a grandson, Brandon Joshua Black of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Marvin Gobble officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Palmer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Freddie Cannon
SHELBY - Mr. Freddie Cannon, 64, of 920 Logan St., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Newberry, S.C., he was a son of the late James and Ida Mae Shell Cannon. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from PPG where he was employed for 27 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Cannon; a brother, James Cannon Jr.; and two sisters, Bessie Cannon and Louella Byers.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Hardin Cannon of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Sherwood and Ella Hardin and Jay Surratt, all of Shelby, and Rodney and Mary Ann Cannon of Fort Washington, Md.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Frieda and Eric Lattimore and Veronica and Todd Wray, all of Shelby, and Alesia Cannon of the home; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, J.C. and Beulah Cannon and Elbert and Dorothy Cannon, all of Shelby, and Clarence Cannon of Gaffney, S.C.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ida Lee Cannon, Helen Smith and Diane and Joe Macopson, all of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Monnie Buckner
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Monnie Randall Buckner, 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Sunnyside Rest Home.
Graveside services will be today at 2 at Sunset Memorial Park with the Revs. Trey Gilliam and Tom Elkins officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 1:45 at Padgett and King Mortuary.

Kathleen Moore
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Mrs. Kathleen Blanton Moore, 86, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

James 'Buck' Buchanan
SHELBY - Mr. James "Buck" Buchanan, 77, of 5056 Pineburr Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clinchfield, Va., he was the son of the late Lewis Martin and Mary Armanda Johnson Buchanan. He was retired as a welder at General Motors and was a member of Weaversville Baptist Church in Virginia. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Meritorious Unit Award.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Edward Buchanan and a sister, Exie Elmore.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Morrison Buchanan of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Exie Flora of Indianapolis, Ind., Alma Eva of Danville, Ind., and Lillie and Robert Shugars of Indianapolis; six brothers, Sylvester Buchanan of Shelby, Gilmer Buchanan of Chambersberg, Pa., Edward Buchanan of Stilesville, Ind., Andrew Buchanan of Lompoc, Calif., Roscoe Buchanan of Ochopee, Fla., and Roy Buchanan of Coatesville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Heyward officiating.
Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Richard Rollins
SHELBY - Mr. Richard Dean Rollins, 69, of 931 Hampton St., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Duke L. and Stella J. Dayberry Rollins.
He was a retired machinist and supervisor from the Aerospace Division of the North American Rockwell Corp. He was a member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church, the Camp Call Masonic Lodge No. 534 and the A.F.&A.M. in Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Sherrill Rollins.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Castillo of Laguna Beach, Calif.; a brother, Barry Rollins of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Dianne R. and Jim Spangler of Shelby; two grandchildren, David and Dan Castillo; and a great-grandson, Nathan Castillo.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Harold Fite officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and other times at the home of Dianne R. and Jim Spangler at 412 Borders Road in Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Freddie Cannon
SHELBY - Mr. Freddie Cannon, 64, of 920 Logan St., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Wade Bridges
MOORESBORO - Mr. Wade W. Bridges, 88, of Trinity Church Road, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Roscoe C. and Nola Greene Bridges. He was a retired rural mail carrier. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Scruggs Bridges.
He is survived by three brothers, Monroe Bridges of Spruce Pine, Earl Bridges of Newport News, Va., and R.C. Bridges Jr. of Shelby; two sisters, Betty Lou Bridges of Mooresboro and Nell B. Matheney of Cliffside; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 at Sandy Run Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Hendrick and Don Allen officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside, is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Duncan
SPINDALE - Mrs. Frances Geevell Harrill Duncan, 82, of 415 Courtland St., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at White Oak Manor.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spindale United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dan Ramsey and Joe Fulk officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.

Lewis Gantt
CLOVER, S.C. - Mr. Lewis Neil Gantt, 79, of 918 N. Brook III School Road, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Willis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
