Hazel Beam
CASAR - Mrs. Sara Hazel Mace Beam, 84, of 114 Mace Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born Sept. 18, 1917, a daughter of the late Frank and Minnie Buff Mace. She retired as postmaster from the Casar post office with more than 30 years service. She was a lifelong member of Pisgah Baptist Church of Casar, former choir director for more than 40 years and former treasurer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Beam; and a grandson, R. Guerry Beam.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kirby and Lynda Beam of Savannah, Ga., and Kenneth and Cheryl Beam of Casar; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Lindy and Joey Wheat of Savannah and Laura and Clint Shuford of Polkville; and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Sanford and Billy Cline officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Blanche Lay
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Blanche Cooper Lay, 72, of 121 Milo Neal Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Philbeck officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Edward McDaniel
ELLENBORO - Mr. Edward J. McDaniel, 75, of 132 Zeno McKinney Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was retired from Mastercraft, where he was a textile supervisor. He was also a farmer and a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, church superintendent and a deacon. He was in the Navy and served in Japan during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Edward Luther and Sarah Jane Lail McDaniel; five brothers, Harland McDaniel, Paul McDaniel, Lawson McDaniel, Charlie McDaniel and Clingman McDaniel; and two sisters, Alma Tesseneer and Etta Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Donnis Dee Dysart McDaniel of the home; two sons, James P. McDaniel and Gary K. McDaniel, both of Shelby; and two grandsons, Keith McDaniel and Kirk McDaniel of the home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Alvin Allen and Greg Corn officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Cora Hope
GROVER - Mrs. Cora M. Hope, 93, of 112 Chestnut St., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grover Cemetery with the Revs. Rick Robison and Lane Carter officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home.

BESSEMER CITY - Mrs. Mary Alice Morris, 46, of 114 Tommies Trail, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Burn Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hephzibah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack H. Cooke officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

David Propst Jr.
DALLAS - Mr. David Henry Propst Jr., 66, of 325 Springs Road, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Alexandria Place.
Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late David Henry Propst Sr. and Irene Burton Propst. He retired from Carolina Freight with 30 years' service. He belonged to Gaston Masonic Lodge No. 263 in Dallas and was a lifelong member of Hardin Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Propst and sister, Marjorie Leigh Propst.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean Jenkins Propst; three sons, Tommy Duncan of Shelby and Mack Propst and Tim Propst of Dallas; a daughter, Frances "Cookie" Propst of Dallas; six brothers, Frank Propst, Darrel Propst, Larry Propst, Roger Propst and Curt Propst, all of Dallas, and Bill Propst of Ware Shoals, S.C.; four sisters, Mae Proctor, Betty Atkins, Edna Stiles and Linda Lewallen, all of Dallas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Hardin Baptist Church, with the Revs. Fain Farmer and Nathan May officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers are Clyde Smith, Chuck Burrill, Foy Goad, Frank Steelman, Troy Ledford and Leonard Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Carolina Freight Retirees, Costner Dairy Drivers and Senior Love Group of Hardin Baptist Church.
The family received friends Sunday.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Gary Cooper "Greg" Griggs, 47, of 338 Bridges Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at University Hospital in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service. At other times, they will be at the home of a sister and brother-in-law, Francis and Joe Haynes, 1002 Hemlock Drive, Shelby.

Kathleen Moore
FORT LADUERDALE, Fla. - Mrs. Kathleen Blanton Moore, 86, formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002 in Fort Lauderdale.
She was the daughter of the late Walter Aiden Blanton and Sara Emma Padgett. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World Society. She was one of nine children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Plato Moore.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ted E. Sr. and Anne Wilson Moore of Fort Lauderdale; a stepdaughter, Lena Kale Moore of Shelby; a brother, Boyd Blanton of Charlotte; three sisters, Ebba Marie Masimore of Shelby, Bertha Childers of Chase City, Va., and Virginia Verl Peterson of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Edward, Scott, and Todd Moore of Fort Lauderdale, and Chris Moore of Vero Beach, Fla.; four stepgrandchildren, Jack Kale of Gastonia, Joan Allen of Shelby, Linda Brewer of Greenville, S.C., and Butch Kale of Blacksburg, S.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church with Drs. Jerry Lail and Eugene Poston officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park, where she will be buried beside her husband.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Lillie Vickers
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Lillie Mae Burgess Vickers, 86, of 121 Elk Hill, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe William and Laura Jane Radford Burgess. She was retired from Burlington Industries, Caroleen Plant, and was a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover "Dink" Vickers.
She is survived by a son, Joe Vickers of Forest City; three brothers, Grover, Sam and Worth Burgess, all of Caroleen; three sisters, Margaret Hodge of Spindale, Betty Rash and Lorene Greene, both of Forest City; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Mush Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
