Mrs. Yette Lindemark Sorensen
Mrs. Yette Lindemark Sorensen, 58, of Britthaven Nursing Center died Saturday, June 7, 2003 after an extended battle with Multiple Sclerosis at Britthaven Nursing Center. Born in Odense Denmark, June 2, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Knuud Lindemark Sorensen and Greta Sorensen Walker .
Mrs. Sorensen was a teacher assistance for many years in the Macon County School System.
She is survived by: son Jerry Stevens Jr. and wife Nikki of Lenoir ; daughter Debbie Robillard and husband Matthew of Lenoir; brothers Miles Walker of Franklin, Eddie Walker, Lindy Sorensen both of California; sisters Karen Sorensen, Deanna Sorensen both of California; grandchildren Jordan Stevens and Madison Robillard.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Reverend John Carswell officiating.

Mrs. Mae Patton Baker
Mrs. Mae Patton Baker, 99, of the Carl Freeman Road in Morganton died, Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at her residence. Born October 31, 1904 in Burke County she was the daughter of late Frank S. Patton and Margaret Wilson Patton.
Her husband of seventy four years Cleedth Hogan Baker ; daughters Margaret Ann Thomas, Betty Lou Gwyn ; granddaughter Elizabeth Gwyn Seals ; step-mother Katherine Avery; brothers Frank Patton, Charles Patton, Dick Patton, Theodore Patton, Jim Patton; sisters Thelma Smith and Florence Parks preceded her in death.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morganton where she was a very active volunteer and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a member of the 1924 Morganton High School Class, taught at the Rhyne School at Lake James, was the Lunch Room Supervisor at Forest Hill Elementary for a number of years and was a pink lady at Grace Hospital for a number of years.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother she is survived by: Grandson Herbert Gwyn and wife Laura of Morganton; great grandchildren Nathan Gwyn, Camille Gwyn, Gwendolyn Brown Bray and husband Scott, Olivia Seals; Great Great Grandchildren Hunter Bray and Chase Bray.
Funeral Services will be 3:30 Friday, November 7, 2003 at the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Reverends Doctor Thomas Bland and Fredrick Schuszler officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park
The family will receive friends 7 till 8 Thursday at Kirksey Funeral in Morganton.

Mrs. Estelle Vaughn Morgan
Mrs. Estelle Vaughn Morgan, 84, of Marion, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1919 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Willy Vaughn and Etta Roe Conner Vaughn. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morgan was also preceded in death by her husband, George Julius Morgan; a son, Julius Garland Morgan; five brothers, Garland, Lee, H.D., Jack and Rosal Vaughn; and one sister, Hessie Mostiller. Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Her life was spent caring for others. She loved her family, her church and her friends. She was in bad health since 1968. She loved to piece quilts and read.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Morgan Elliott and husband, Roger, of the home; two sisters, Lucy Whitson and Bessie O’Quinn, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Michael Elliott, David Elliott, Timothy Elliott, Lisa Ridao and Lori Cooper. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morgan will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 7, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan St., Marion, N.C. 28752.

Jeremy Douglas Brown
Jeremy Douglas Brown, 18, of the Packs Hill Road in Lenoir died Friday, June 20, 2003 in Collettsville due to injuries caused by an automobile accident. He was born September 27, 1984 in Burke County . His paternal grandfather Earl Brown preceded him in death.
Jeremy was working for Gary Coffey Concrete in Lenoir.
He is survived by: his father and mother Alvin Douglas Brown and Linda Hudson Brown; maternal grandparents Roy Lee Hudson and wife Bertha; paternal grandparent Kathleen Whisnant; sister Jennifer Brown and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Fred Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park

Mr. Walter James Hembree
Mr. Walter James Hembree, 70, of Watts Trail in Morganton died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Valdese Hospital. Born April 12, 1933 in Polk County he was the son of the late Wade Troy Hembree and Sallie Cox Hembree. A brother Jeff Hembree; sisters Hazel Hembree and Myrtle Leveret preceded him in death.
Mr. Hembree was a member of the Burkemont Baptist Church in Morganton and retired from Drexel Heritage.
He is survived by: daughters Debbie Whisenant and husband Larry, Sheila Bishop and husband Wayne all of Morganton, Lynn Johnson and husband Dean of Connelly Springs; brothers Pete Hembree of Rutherfordton, Vernon Hembree of Cliffside; sisters Lena Price, Fannie Carpenter, Mickie Benfield all of Morganton, Lila Price of Marion grandchildren Stephanie Davis, Amy Deal, Shannon Carroll, Melissa Bishop, Sabrina Bishop and a great grandchild Harley Kestnor.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Aaron Pendley officiating. Burial will follow at Burkemont Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Thelma J. Rickett, 88, of Marion, died Friday, July 2, 2004.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Committal services were conducted in the chapel at the conclusion of the funeral services. The family received friends prior to the services.

Sarah D. Gantt
Sarah D. Gantt, age 75 of Morganton, Died Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Grace Hospital. She was born to the late James Ardie Duckworth and Robbie Beatrice Gibbs Duckworth on October 27, 1929 in Burke County.
She was a life long member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and was an avid animal lover.
Sarah was a loving sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
Along with her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Billie S. Gantt.
She is survived by a sister, Ardith Propst and her husband Richard of Morganton; a brother, Charlie G. Duckworth and his wife Shirley H. of Morganton; a niece, Melissa Liposcak; three nephews, Michael Duckworth, Blair Propst, and Gantt Propst; two grand nieces, Jemima Liposcak and Anna Duckworth; and a grand nephew, Jeremy Liposcak. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Stinson-Wesley officiating.

Mrs. Sarah Jane “Shirley” Hester
Mrs. Sarah Jane “Shirley” Hester, 60, of Nebo, died, Saturday, November 29, 2003, at her residence. Born January 29, 1943, in Swain County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Kirkland and Sarah Franklin Kirkland. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Annette Hester Swafford and several brothers & sisters. Mrs. Hester was member of the Trinity Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Nebo, she was a homemaker.
She was a loving mother of three children and will be remembered as a tender and caring friend to all.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, David Hester, Sr., of the home; A son, David Hester, Jr., of Marion; A daughter, Vanessa Ann Hester, of the home; A brother, Hubert Kirkland, of Black Mountain; Two sisters, Emma Clampitt, of Hickory and Bell Clampitt, of High Point; She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Trinity Hill Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverends Jerry McClain, Dean Owenby and Carl Rowland officiating.
Mrs. Hester will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the Church. Interment will follow at the Trinity Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM, Monday, December 1, 2003, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Mrs. Lila Grace Smith Ward
Mrs. Lila Grace Smith Ward, 74, of Fleetwood, died, Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, NC. Born January 1, 1930, in Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Paul Branch Smith and Viola Styles Smith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ward was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy Hampton Ward, and a sister, Edna Pyatt.
Mrs. Ward is survived by a son, Darrell Ward, and friend, Candace Gryder, of Banner Elk, NC; one sister, Louise Chrisawn, of Marion; also, surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Ward will be held 2:30PM, Friday, March 12, 2004, at the Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
