Robert Carney
SHELBY - Mr. Robert G. Carney, 76, of 1847 E. Marion St., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Seward, Pa., he was the son of the late Ray Earl and Minnie Shultz Carney. He was retired from the N.C. Forest Service where he was a service forester, and he was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II in Burma where he worked in communications and received two Purple Hearts.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Flora Stiles Carney.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Jolley Carney of Shelby; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael G. and Susan Carney of Cary and Robert D. Carney of Shelby; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Margaret Carney of Seward, Pa., Don and Doris Carney of Palm Harbor, Fla., Fred Carney of Florence, Pa.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra and Deed Davis of Homer City, Pa., and Dorothy Mahalie of Saltsbury, Pa.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Revs. Lamar Hewitt and Jack Waters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday night at Cleveland Funeral Services.
Joe Condrey
CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Joe M. Condrey, 58, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of Corine Barnette Condrey of Cliffside and the late Hill Condrey. He was a rural mail carrier in Shelby and attended Gardner-Webb University. He served in the Air Force and was a member of DAV and Race Path Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann Rochester Condrey of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Reggie Lawrence of Lawndale; a brother, Steve Condrey of Mayo, S.C.; two sisters, Doris C. Greene of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Peggy C. Dill of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cliffside Cemetery with the Rev. John Godfrey officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Eugene Deyton
FOREST CITY - Mr. Eugene Deyton, 77, of 125 Deaton Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Grover C. and Ina Halford Deyton. He was a member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church and a retired textile employee. He served in the Army during World War II and was a Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Diane Radford Deyton; a brother, Hubert Deyton; four sisters, Lallage Williams, Grace Davidson, Dorothy Deyton and Pauline Davis; and three grandchildren, Paul, Brian and Maria Deyton.
He is survived by his wife, Maudleen Melton Deyton; four sons, Keith Deyton of Mooresboro, Bill Deyton of Anchorage, Alaska, Robert Deyton of Cantonment, Fla., and Max Deyton of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two daughters, Pat Hammett of Mooresboro and Dianne Deyton of Forest City; three brothers, G.C. Deyton Jr. and Harry Deyton, both of Caroleen, and Lester Deyton of Mooresboro; a sister, Florence Deyton of Caroleen; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Harris and Ted Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frances Ledford
SHELBY - Mrs. Frances Champion Ledford, 82, of 415 Stroud Road, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Mamie Gold Champion and was retired from Wray's Department Store. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Landon Ledford.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Wayne Blanton of Shelby; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Dwayne Thomas and Julie Ferns Blanton of Charlotte; a great-great-grandson, Zachary Thomas Blanton and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Lail officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Lois Massi
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Lois Dale Unger Massi, 82, of Thomas, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Kings Mountain.
Arrangements will be announced by Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Mabel Branton
ARDEN - Mrs. Mabel Beam Branton, 97, of The Oaks at Sweeten Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the nursing home.
The funeral will be today at 12 p.m. noon at the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Revs. John Whisnant and Wyatt Aiken officiating. Burial will be in Bridgewater Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before services at the funeral home.

Brandy Guffey
FOREST CITY - Miss Brandy Michelle Guffey, 18, of 108 Bellview St., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Johnny Bridges and Dale Riffle officiating. Burial will be in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 10 at Crowe's Mortuary.
Harold Bridges
OAK ISLAND - The Rev. W. Harold Bridges, 79, formerly of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at New Testament Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Counts, Hammond Chandler, Gerald Williams and Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park West.
The family received friends Friday at Highland Funeral Service and Crematory.
Jake Lynch
SHELBY - Mr. Jake "Jack" Alexander Lynch, 75, of 6917 Baker Drive, Apt. B., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Rutherford County, he was self-employed. He was a member of Chicago. Marquette Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Hyman and Lavada Padgett Lynch.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Gilreath Lynch of Shelby; two sons, Jake A. Lynch Jr. and Michael R. Lynch, both of Chicago; a sister, Allegra Stout of Shelby; a brother, Woodrow Lynch of Shelby; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held in Chicago at a later date.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.
Randy Wimbush
SHELBY - Mr. Randy Lee Wimbush, 29, of 125 College Road, Apt. E-2, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Tommy and Carolyn Shell Wimbush. He was a veteran of the Gulf War and was employed by ITS at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, David Wimbush Sr. and Mack Sr. and Rachel Shell.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Rose Littlejohn of Shelby; a brother, Reggie Wimbush of Shelby; three daughters, Tytiana Degree, Brandy Wimbush and Jacquia Catlin, all of Shelby; two sons, Travon McDowell and Antavious Byers, both of Shelby; a special friend, Trudy Izama, and her daughter Simmone Izama; a grandmother, Mary Wimbush of Shelby; two nephews, Marvin and Devante Wimbush of Shelby; two aunts and four uncles of the Wimbush family; seven aunts and uncles of the Shell family; his ex-wife, Philahia Chambers of Shelby; and relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawndale with the Rev. Bill Houze officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at 2030 Kings Road in Shelby.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Roy Harris
FOREST CITY - Mr. Roy E. Harris, 77, of Old Caroleen Road, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Autumn Care in Forest City.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Hames officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Christine Martin
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Christine Campbell Martin, 74, of 238 Flat Rock Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at home.
Born June 12, 1927, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Rush Alvin and Vernie Mae Heafner Campbell. She retired after 20 years with Shadowline. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church for 53 years and was a member of the Friendship Club for Seniors, Friendship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Hoyle Martin; an infant brother, Gene Alvin Campbell; and a sister, Montrose C. Floyd.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lynn Martin of Lawndale, Michael and Pamela Martin of Belmont; a brother, J. Gary Campbell of Lawndale; two sisters, Joan C. Newton of Casar and Carolyn C. Jenkins of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Brandon Martin, Alex Martin, Jeremy Martin and Julie Martin.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Ingram officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Joy Lancaster
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Joy Wilson Lancaster, 41, of 105 Colonial Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born in Gaston County, she was the daughter of Shirley Falls Wilson of Gastonia and the late Thomas E. Wilson Jr. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, a volunteer for Grover Elementary School, Grover PTO and a former volunteer for Hospice of Cleveland County. She was a former employee of Carolina Freight of Cherryville where she was a computer programmer.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Steven "Grady" Lancaster of the home; two sons, Steven J. Lancaster and Jake Lancaster, both of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas E. III and Louann Wilson of Gastonia; and a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doug Allen of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
