Mr. Arthur H. Poteat, 90, of Marion, died Monday, December 27, 2004.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, December 31, 2004 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 2:00PM.
Mrs. Margaret Berryhill Lentz
Mrs. Margaret Berryhill Lentz, 89, of Lenoir Road, Morganton died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Grace Ridge. Born June 24, 1913 in Mecklenburg County she was the daughter of the late William R. Berryhill and Mary Sanders Berryhill. Her husband Robert Lentz Jr. ; sisters Janie Manning, Mary Ellen Whelan, Ethel Berryhill and Vivian Straton preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lentz was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morganton and had worked for many as a pediatrics nurse in Burke County.
She is survived by: brother William Berryhill Jr. of Tampa Florida; sister Ruth B. Whelan of Albuquerque New Mexico; several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Jason Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 10 till 11 Am Saturday at Kirksey Funeral in Morganton.

Miss Mildred “Millie” Ann Benfield
Miss Mildred “Millie” Ann Benfield of Randolph Street Morganton died Monday, November 3, 2003 at College Pines Nursing Center in Rutherford College after a brief illness. She was born in Morganton, NC the daughter of the late Joseph Maynard Benfield and Sallie Mildred Whisenant Benfield. Brothers Rick Maynard Benfield and Joseph “Joe” Stanley Benfield preceded her in death.
Miss Benfield was a retired public school teacher of family and consumer sciences. She had taught at Hickory High School. She held a professional membership in NCAE (North Carolina Association of Education) NEA (National Education Association) and AAFCS (American Association of Family and Consumer of Science).
Miss Benfield is survived by: two beloved sister-n-laws, Helen Walker Whitley of Concord, Betty Anne Hardy Benfield of Greenville, nephew Justin Eric Benfield and wife Sharon of Kannapolis, niece Mitzi Lyne Benfield of Greenville, nephew Chad Kirkland Benfield and wife Tammy and their children Hannah and Brandon of Ayden and a host of beloved relatives, neighbors and friends.
Miss Benfield was a child of her church, having been born into and remaining a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 6, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Doctor Matthew Brown and Susan Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Miss Benfield will lie in state while the family receives friends in the church pallor one hour prior to the services.

Desiree Vanessa Stevens
Desiree Vanessa Stevens, infant, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
Born July 4, 2004, she was the daughter of Christopher Stevens and Jennifer Dowdy of Buncombe County.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Junior and Rose Rathbone of Waynesville; paternal grandparents, Jerry Aquila Stevens of Marion; paternal great-grandmother, Rosa Lee Stevens of Marion.
A private graveside service will be held on Sunday at Stevens Family Cemetery with Rev. Steve Durham officiating. Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, is assisting the family.

Ethel Jane Hensley
Ethel Jane Hensley, age 82, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 30, 2004 in Grace Hospital, Morganton, NC
Born in Madison County to the late James Cornelous Bradley and Kittie Carver Bradley, she was a retired employee of Burlington Industries. She was a member of State Street Church of God where she served as Sunday School Teacher of the Ladies Class for over 40 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merley Henry Hensley; a son, Lecil Hensley; a stepson, Glenn Hensley; a great granddaughter, Emily Grace McKinney; one brother, Lloyd Bradley.
Surviving are 3 stepsons, Ralph Hensley and wife, Doris of Salisbury, NC, Bobby Hensley and wife Lillian and Bill Hensley and wife, Peggy both of Marion; two daughters, Melva Wall and Joyce Kelley both of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Janice Hensley of Marion; a son-in-law, Kenneth Wall of Boone, NC; Nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step greatgrandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2:30 Saturday, December 1, 2004 at State Street Church of God with Rev. Danny Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church with burial following in McDowell Memorial Park.
Those desiring to make memorials in Mrs. Hensley’s memory, may do so to the State Street Church of God.

Luke Ernst Graham
Luke Ernst Graham, age 23, of 96 Patton Valley Drive, Nebo, NC died Sunday June 15, 2003 at his residence.
Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of Ted and JoAnne Ernst graham. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Morganton, NC and was a member of Boy Scouts of America, Troop #212 where he attained the Eagle Scout Award.
In addition to his parents, he is survive3d by a sister, Elizabeth Graham of Nebo, NC; Paternal Grandmother, Margaret Graham Holt of Spencer, NC; Maternal Grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. C.R. Ernst of Ocean City, MD
Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, June 19, 2003 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will he held at St. Lukes Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mt. Ulla, NC.

Robert Dean Suttlemyre
Robert Dean Suttlemyre, age 56 died at his resident on Parker Padgett Road of Old Fort, on Saturday, November 1, 2003.. He was born in McDowell County to the late David Suttlemyre. He is survived by his mother Nell Souther Suttlemyre, one daughter Joy Suttlemyre of Atlanta, one granddaughter Chloe Lamb of Atlanta Ga.
He was a lifelong residence of McDowell County, a self employed mechanic and served in the U. S. Army.
Services will be held on Tuesday evening at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort at 7 P.M. and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jack Bridges will officiate . Burial will follow at the Western N.C. veterans cemetery on Wednesday.

Harvey Reid "Buck" Good Jr.
Harvey Reid "Buck" Good Jr. of Nebo went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at his residence.
Born in McDowell County, he was the son of Harvey Reid Good Sr. and Vera Green Good. Reid was a graduate of Marion High School where he was in the National Honor Society. After high school, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. and served two years in the U.S. Navy as an electrician. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Marion in 1948 and retired in 1982 as assistant postmaster. After retirement, he continued to be active in Cross Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until the time of his death. This led him to a variety of mission work which includes trips to Honduras and Alaska. One of his greatest passions in life was being a member of the Gideons International. He participated in a prison ministry.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Sarah Hensley Good; a son, Terry Bryon Good and wife, Lynn, of Nebo; a daughter, Jane Good Elliott and husband, David, of Nebo; two adopted daughters, Rose Ann Sarawgi and husband, Santosh of Cincinnati, Ohio and Belinda Marie Maupin of Stockton, Calif. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Michael Elliott and wife, Melissa, Jennifer Hawkins and husband, Dusty, Travis Good and wife, Sharon, Shivali Sarawgi and Ravi Sarawgi; one great-granddaughter, Christian Good; sister, Doris Good Nelson of Lenoir; and sister-in-law, Idell Good of Lenoir. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Kirby; and one brother, Jack "Buddy" Good.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 8, 2004 at Cross Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Prevette officiating. Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Norman Lee Lewis
Mr. Norman Lee Lewis, 68, of Marion, died, Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at his residence. Born December 11, 1936, in McDowell County, he was a son of the late Fred James Lewis and Rachel Mace Lewis.
He is survived by a son, Scotty Lee Lewis, of Marion; Two daughters, Patty Packett and Catina Lewis, both of Marion; Two brothers, Gene Lewis, of Charlotte, NC and Jobie Lewis, of Greenville, SC; Two sisters, Maxine Rapan, of Greer, SC and Sandra Vallini, of Marion; also surviving are eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 5:00PM, Friday, March 11,2005, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Services at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Mr. Lewis’s memory to the South Mountain Children’s Homes, 7330 Myrtle Dr., Nebo, NC 28761.
