'Pete' Heavner
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Sydney E. "Pete" Heavner, 86, of 311 Walker St., died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Lee and Ellen Hallman Heavner. He was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men. He was retired from Plonk Oil Co. and served in the Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Bookout Heavner.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Dora Heavner of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Ed Herndon and Kathy and Dwight Dixon, all of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Nell Houser and Lorene Pruett, both of Cherryville; 11 grandchildren, Patrick Heavner of Kings Mountain, Matthew Heavner of Gastonia, Edie and Richard Gold of Hiram, Ga.; Nichole and Larry Radford and Melissa and Scott Bailey, all of Kings Mountain, Drs. Melanie and Scott Meyer of Rochester, Minn., and Amy Dixon of Morganton; six great-grandchildren, Amber and Sydni Gold, both of Hira, Ga., Colby Bailey and Bryson of Kings Mountain, Eli Radford of Kings Mountain and Andrew Radford of Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before the service at the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home of his daughter, Kathy Dixon, 304 Maner Road., Kings Mountain.
Memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church, 122 El Bethel Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Mary Whisonant
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary Frances Wyatt Whisonant, 73, of 503 Wilson St., died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Columbia, S.C.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.
Nelson Neill
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Nelson Lynn Neill, 56, of 403 St. Mark's Church Road, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Charles Furman and Ruby Brown Neill. He was employed with ABF Freight System of Kernersville, formerly Carolina Freight, for 23 years. He was a member of Teamster Local 391 and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He served in the Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Neil, and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Parker and Don King.
He was survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Colen and Janice Neill of Cherryville; three sisters, Jo King and Bonnie Parker of Cherryville, and Samantha Neill of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Neil of Cherryville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Deitz officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carpenter's Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Margaret Scruggs
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Margaret Teseneer Scruggs, 76, of 338 Willow Run Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will be in Goodes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harrelson Funeral Home.
Ida Mae Cash
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Ida Mae Cash, 86, of 160 Willow Tree Lane, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Gold Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. L.A. Mills officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Horne
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Mary Bell Jones Horne, 86, of 180 Longleaf Drive, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at home.
A native of Lawndale, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Robert Sr. and Alice Hoyle Elliott Jones. She taught school for 34 1/2 years in North Carolina and South Carolina. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Tallulah Chapter #16.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wade Horne.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Sprouse of Spartanburg and Esther Gilden of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Samuel Durant Jones of Lawndale; a sister, Esther King of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. Paul Harmon and A. Mickey Fisher. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Eastern Star Rites.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the home.
Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Mauney
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Charles Clyde Mauney, 78, of 113 Studio Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Graveside services will be today at 3 p.m. in City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jack H. Cooke officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Diane Russ, 106 Terrace Drive, Cherryville.
John Oates
LAWNDALE - Mr. John Paul Oates, 56, of 201 Powerhouse Road, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Lovie and Inez Oates. He was self employed for 10 years in the cleaning service industry.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Richards Oates; a son, Adam Oates of the home; two daughters, Shakila Oates of the home and Amelia Oates of Charlotte; three brothers, Robert Oates of Redhook , N.Y., Don Oates of Morganton and Ben Oates of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; two sisters, Abby Oates and Thelma Oates, both of Shelby, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy D. Houze officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park cemetery.

Antoinette Dipietrantonio
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Antoinette "Toni" Dipietrantonio, 76, of 109 Quail Hollow Drive, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at White Oak Manor.
She was born in Gallo, Italy, and was a homemaker and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pasquale and Carmella Rocchio Selletti; her husband, Frank Dipietrantonio, and a daughter, Joann Delucia.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula D. Lekowitz and her husband, Steve, of the home; two grandchildren, Dawn Nielson and her husband, David, and Laurie Grappo and her husband, Stephen, and two great-grandchildren, Karlie Nielson and Kayla Viana.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Queens, N.Y. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Farenga and Sons Funeral Home in Astoria, N.Y.

David Fisher
SHELBY - Mr. John David Fisher Sr., 73, of 515 Leander St., died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a veteran of the Navy and the Air Force. He was a retired assembly supervisor at Eaton Corp. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alexander and Annie Seagle Fisher, and a sister, Lillian F. Ware.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Warlick Fisher of the home; two sons, Mark Alan Fisher and his wife, Julie, of Belmont, and John David Fisher Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Sanford; two daughters, Pamela W. Bradley and her husband, Jimmy, of Kings Mountain, and Melanie D. Ward of Charlotte; a brother-in-law, Fred D. Ware of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a sister, Helen F. Ware of Dunedin, Fla.; six grandchildren, Patrick, Alex, and Will Fisher; Katie and Samantha Fisher, and Allison Bradley.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. The family will be at the home at other times.

Danny Pruett
CASAR- Mr. Danny Wayne Pruett, 31, of 423 Parker Road, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Sanford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home.
Rev. Willie Howell
SHELBY - Rev. Willie T.R. Howell, 72, of 508 E. Graham St., died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at his home.
Born June 2, 1929, he was the son of the late J.A. and Annie Louvella Brooks Howell and a native of Waco.
He was retired from Beechman Construction in Charlotte. He joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. His early ministry was in the church choir. He preached his trial sermon on Dec. 27, 1961, and carried his ministry to churches, prisons and nursing homes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Howell; a granddaughter, Teresa K. McCabe; two brothers, Plato Howell and Dorse Howell, and a sister, Annie H. Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Sue Middlebrook Howell of the home; five sons, Perry T. Howell of Charlotte, Willie T. Howell Jr., James A. Howell, and Michael J. Howell, all of Shelby, and Gerald D. Howell and his wife, Chineat, of Blacksburg, S.C.; five daughters, Gentry H. Leach of Garner, Patricia H. McKeever of Shelby, Janet H. Turner and her husband, Enoch, of Garner, Mattie H. Gainor and her husband, Juan, of Norfolk, Va., and Mary H. Thurman and her husband, Steve, of Shelby; four brothers, Asborne Howell of Greensboro, Orborne Howell of Shelby, James Nathaniel Howell and Carl Bruce Howell, both of Cherryville; 11 grandchildren, Emanuel E. Evans, Christopher M. Allen, Artis McCabe III, R. Rayvon Turner, Emanuel Halloway, Shanita D. Zenk-Howell, Jamel A. Howell, Harvey A. Thurman, Sulieka C. Howell, Patricia A. Jackson, and Pamela R. Adams, and many friends and acquaintances.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 at the church before the service.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Mae McKinney Greene, 83, of Colonial Manor Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at her home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemed Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. John Hughs officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
