MILL SPRING - Mrs. Dovie M. Moore, 79, of 437 Hague Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Wheat Creek Baptist Church on Pea Ridge Road with the Rev. Jimmy Lytle officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Thompson Brothers Funeral Home of Forest City is in charge of arrangements.

'Pokey' Guffey
UNION MILLS - Mrs. Hiawatha "Pokey" Guffey, 69, of 800 Camp Creek, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spencer Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Vaughn and Bruce Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Spindale City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday one hour before the service in the Family Life Center of the church.
Memorials may be made to Lupis Foundation of American, 1235-E East Blvd. No. 226, Charlotte, NC 28230; or to the American Kidney Fund, P.O. Box 1837, Merrifield, VA 22116.

Eccles Elliott
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Eccles Daily Elliott, 83, of 3964 Baxter Implement Road, formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Charlotte with the Revs. Harold K. Bales and Ivan Peden officiating. A graveside service will be at 5 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Cherryville with the Rev. John Stein officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral in the church Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28020; or Bethlehem United Methodist Church, in care of Doris Wilson, 147 Latham Wilson Road, Lawndale, NC 28090.
Stamey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Flack
BOSTIC - Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Whisnant Flack, 89, of 149 Fairhaven Drive, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home of Cliffside in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Grigg
VILAS - Mrs. Margaret Adams Grigg, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
Born Dec. 11, 1916, in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Solomon and Virgie Cornett Adams. She was a graduate of Cove Creek High School and Lees McRae College in Banner Elk. She was a homemaker and a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a choir member for more than 50 years and served as choir director for a number of years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barney W. Grigg; an infant daughter, Joan Marie Grigg; and a sister, Mrs. Reba Bingham.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Sandra and Dale Johnson; two grandsons, Michael Johnson and Jeremy Johnson, all of Vilas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Earlena Adams and Jerry and Carolyn Adams, all of Sugar Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Cove Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Douglas L. Robinson and Dean Burris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday at Hampton Funeral Service in Boone and at other times will be at the home, 672 George's Gap Road, Vilas.
Memorials may be made to Cove Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 68, Sugar Grove, NC 28679.

'Sonny' Hawkins
FOREST CITY - Mr. Luther F. "Sonny" Hawkins, 42, of 148 Brooklyn Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at home.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ray Harding
BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Mr. Ray Price Harding, 84, formerly of Blacksburg, S.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at home.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Chapel Park Cemetery with the Rev. Stanley Luke officiating.
The family received friends Thursday at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association or to the American Cancer Society.
White Columns-Blacksburg is in charge of local arrangements.

James McKnight
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Mr. James E. McKnight, 73, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Foxwood Springs Nursing Home in Raymore, Mo.
Born Nov. 27, 1928, in Shelby, he was a graduate of Shelby High School and received his bachelor's from William Jewell College, master's from UMKC and a specialist degree in education from UMKC. He spent 31 years in the Kansas City School District as vice principal of junior high schools. He was a veteran of the Army C.I.D., and was a sports enthusiast, especially baseball, basketball, canoeing and horseshoes. He was an ordained minister and belonged to the Noland Road Baptist Church and the Schoolmasters Club.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hawthorne Lancaster and Weldon McKnight.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth McKnight; a daughter and a son-in-law, Lorinda and Dennis Lewis of Blue Springs; two sisters, Barbara Hoyle of Boiling Springs and Elron West of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Brett and Taylor Lewis.
A memorial service was held Feb. 13 at Heartland Church in Blue Springs.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Kansas City.
Webb-Freer Funeral Home is serving the family.

Norma Kiser
SHELBY - Mrs. Norma Canipe Kiser, 82, of 116 Lattimore St. No. 1, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John William and Etta Costner Canipe. She was retired from Fiber Industries-Celanese, where she worked in production services. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Hartwell Kiser; a son, Wayne Kiser; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Canipe Cash.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Robin Kiser of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Kiser Biggerstaff and Ed Phillips and Maryetta Kiser and Tim Wease, all of Shelby; a sister, Patsy Greene of Shelby; four grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Todd and Natalie Biggerstaff and Travis and Jennifer Biggerstaff, all of Lexington, and Tim Wease Jr. and Matthew Kiser, both of Shelby; four granddaughters, Allyson Foster of Raleigh, Adrienne Kiser of Bradenton, Fla., and Amanda Wease and Stephanie Kiser, both of Shelby; three great-grandsons, Cameron Foster of Raleigh and Tyler Biggerstaff and Brian Biggerstaff, both of Lexington; and one great-granddaughter, Mollie Biggerstaff of Lexington.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Dan Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home and will at other times at the home.

Evelyn Faulkner
SHELBY - Mrs. Evelyn Speas Faulkner, 91, of 6032 Maple Valley Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rural Hall, she was a retired school teacher and had taught at Asheville, Winston-Salem and Charlotte schools and had majored in business. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, a graduate of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., and founder of Carolina Business School in Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Augustus and Georgianna Speas and her husband, William Sanford Faulkner Jr.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, retired Lt. Col. Sanford Wesley and Sandy Faulkner of the home; a granddaughter, Kristen McSwain of Shelby, and a grandson, Ryan Faulkner of Colorado Springs, Colo.
A private service will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the home Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. and can be reached at (704) 481-8722.
Memorials may be made to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 510 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC 28150.

R. Dale Bridges
WAKE FOREST - Mr. Roger Dale Bridges, 55, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest. Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of local arrangements.

Helen Ward
SHELBY - Mrs. Helen Davis Ward, 81, of 1019 W. Elm St., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Chesnee, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Lorin and Carrie Fisher Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Prime Timers. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher for 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ward; and a brother, Joe Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James "Piggy" Ward of the home; and a sister, Nan Sneed of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Kerley and Jim Brackett officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Westview Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, NC 28152.
