Annie Hardin
PATTERSON SPRINGS - Mrs. Annie Evans Hardin, 91, of 2202 Cleveland Ave., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Century Care of Shelby.
Born Aug. 6, 1910, in Georgia, she was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Basil H. "Bat" Hardin, who died June 28, 1988; a son, James Lee Hardin Sr.; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia White Hardin.
She is survived by a son, Hubert Hardin of Blacksburg, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Hazel Hardin Davis; a brother, Otis Evans of Carolina Beach; a sister, Blondine Bumgardner of Cherryville; two grandsons, James Lee Hardin Jr. and Jeffery Hardin; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Trexler officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. before the service at Palmer Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 1227 Mount Sinai Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
John Parker
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. John Calvin Parker, 79, of 123 Hillway Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Barnes Auditorium. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the auditorium.
Costner Funeral Home of Gastonia is in charge of arrangements.
Calvin Parker
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Calvin Lovell Parker, 48, of 123 Hillway Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, on Lake Montonia Road in Kings Moutnain.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Barnes Auditorium. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the auditorium.
Costner Funeral Home of Gastonia is in charge of arrangements.
Odell Mitchem
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Oddel Mitchem, 62, of 218 Dixon School Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
'Benny' Hammitt
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Alice "Benny" Hammitt, 81, of Cardinal Care Center in Lincolnton, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Cardinal Care Center.
Born June 9, 1920, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Carrie Beam Carpenter. She retired as an inspector from Sweetree of Cherryville. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde R. Hammitt; a son-in-law, Dennis L. Heavner; and a great-granddaughter, Erica Blair Heavner.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Herman Travis "Bud" and Jane Hammitt of Boiling Springs and Ned Carpenter and Theresa Hammitt of Denver, N.C.; a daughter, Francis H. Heavner of Cherryville; a sister, Virginia "Jenny" Baxter of Cherryville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home.

'Junior' Eaton
SHILOH - Mr. Marion Henry Eaton Jr., 43, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home of Bostic.
Robert Goforth
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Robert L. Goforth, 76, of 803 Meadowbrook Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William Marvin and Ada Pearl Sellers Goforth.
He was a member and former elder of Boyce Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired automobile salesman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cloninger Goforth; and a brother, Garrison Goforth.
He is survived by two sons, Robbie Gofroth and Larry Goforth, both of Kings Mountain; a daughter and a son-in-law, Lynn and Bobby Wooten of Forest City; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Pat Goforth of Vassar, Mich.; a sister, Mae Sue Goforth McGill of Kings Mountain; a sister-in-law, Rachel Goforth of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, Shane Barnes, Fonda Barnes, Robin Durham, Adam Durham, Jason Goforth and Gray Wooten; three great-grandchildren, Lyndsey Barnes, Carly Barnes and Nolen Durham.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church with the Rev. Doug Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.

Troy Watkins
LAKE LURE - Mr. Troy Alonzo Watkins, 53, of 119 Summerdale Lane, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Henrietta with Dr. Lester Jackson officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Dorothy Owens
CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. Dorothy Owens, 67, of Vinewood Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Ella Turner Bailey. She was a homemaker and textile worker. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Max Owens of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janet Owens and Mitchell and Roseann Owens, all of Cliffside; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Don Byars of Cliffside; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Rachel Bailey of Forest City; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Causby Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Stanley Greene Sr.
FOREST CITY - Mr. Stanley S. Greene Sr., 56, of 543 Wagy Road, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at home.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at St. John AME Zion Church in Rutherfordton with the Rev. James A. McDougald officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Thelma Patrick
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Thelma Canipe Patrick, 64, of 1315 A Battleground Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Guy and Dovie Bell Davis Canipe. She was a member of The Meeting Place Church in Blacksburg, S.C., and was a cafeteria worker for Kings Mountain District Schools and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Diane Patrick; and a son, Franklin Eugene Patrick.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie Patrick of the home; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Charlie and Cathy Patrick of Earl, Joseph and Amanda Patrick, Steve Patrick, Jeffrey and Lisa Patrick, all of Kings Mountain, and Randy and Dawn Patrick of Sharon, S.C.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and Connley Bracket and Judy Hawks, all of Grover, Patricia and Ricky Ledford and Annette and Clayton Burleson, all of Kings Mountain; a brother, Audrey Canipe of Shelby; two sisters, Elizabeth Watkins of Bostic and Ester Burge of Linden, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at The Meeting Place Church with the Revs. Rick Robinson and Lane Carter officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
