Jonathan Mallet
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Jonathan Maurice Mallet, 27, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born March 11, 1974, in Charlotte, he was the son of Maurice and Frances Ledbetter Mallet of Charlotte. He was an Eagle Scout. He was an employee financial specialist with First Union.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry W. Ledbetter.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cheryl Dellinger Mallet, and their daughter, Haley Michelle Mallet, who will be born in July; his grandmother, Nell Bolton Ledbetter of Shelby; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Vivian Dellinger of Charlotte; and one sister-in-law, Laura Dellinger of Charlotte.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Shady Brook Baptist Church with the Rev. George Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Marc Warrick, Jeff Moss, Jim Pope, Jeff Banks, Scott Boyd and Keane Matthews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service.
Memorials may be made to the Haley Michelle Mallet Memorial Fund in care of Shady Brook Baptist Church, 2940 Belmeade Drive, Charlotte, NC 28214; or to Holy Angels, 6000 Wilkinson Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28214.
Marion Eaton Jr.
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Marion Henry Eaton Jr., 43, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002.
A memorial service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home, Bostic.

Mae Williams
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Mae Belle Crow Williams, 83, of 590 Birch Hutchins Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Adaville Baptist Church, Spindale, with the Rev. James Daves officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.
Dorothy Smith
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Dorothy Black Smith, 73, of 1013 W. Carroll St., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Black Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.

Bobby Callahan
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Bobby Joe Callahan, 70, of 1105 Rock Springs Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
A native of Gaffney, S.C., he was the son of the late Ralph and Vera Wylie Callahan. He was a retired textile employee and a veteran of the Air Force and member of the National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gerd "Sue" Evelyn Richter Callahan; and one brother, Thomas Callahan.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth Callahan of Gaffney; one daughter, Sherrie Estes of Blacksburg; three sisters, Elaine Moss of Blacksburg, Carolyn Kuykendall of Kings Mountain and Patricia McCulloch of Boiling Springs; one brother, Franklin Callahan of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Perrin Parker officiating.
The body will be placed at the cemetery 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of a daughter, Sherrie Estes, 1140 Rock Springs Road, Blacksburg.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
Samuel Grier Sr.
SHELBY - Samuel E. Grier Sr., 89, of 500 Bonny St., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Dockery's Funeral Home.
Willie Webber
SHELBY - Mrs. Willie B. Jones Webber, 90, formerly of 101 Holly Hill Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Ruther-ford County, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Hampton and Leona Missouri Rodgers Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Zoar Baptist Church for 61 years where she was active in choir, pianist and WMU.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph F. Webber; one daughter, Elsie Glenn; two grandsons, Richard Todd Webber and David A. Crowe; four sisters; and seven brothers.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Furman and Louise Webber and Bill and Donna Webber, all of Shelby, and Johnny and Dot Webber of Cherryville; one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Roger Crowe of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Gobble and the Rev. Johnny Ware officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service and the family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the home of a son, Bill Webber, 1686 S. Lafayette St., Shelby.

E. Tyree Greene
HUNTERSVILLE - Mr. E. Tyree Greene, 90, formerly of Shelby, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Hunters-ville Oaks.
Born Oct. 3, 1911, in Zebulan, he was a son of the late Samuel W. and Buena Bridges Greene. He resided in White Plains, N.Y., for 33 years before retiring to Shelby in 1974. He was a graduate of Shenadoah College in Winchester, Va., with a degree in music education. He entered the field of social work in 1941 after becoming a staff member at the YMCA in White Plains. Later he was called to a position on the YMCA National and International Headquarters in New York City. During the war he was related to the administration of the USO-YMCA program providing services to men and women stationed throughout the entire United States. Following the war he became director of purchases of National YMCA throughout the United States and Canada. When the USO was re-activated due to the Korean War, he joined the USO worldwide staff in New York City, serving as assistant secretary of the corporation, budget director, assistant director of operations, director of business and finance, national associate executive director and finally national executive director.
In 1957, he was named Father of the Year in White Plains by the Civic and Business Federation due to an essay written by his daughter, Sarah. He was president and chairman of the board of many civic organizations. He was a long-time member of Ridgeview Congregational Church in White Plains, where he served on many boards and committees, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
He was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and active on many committees. He was a member of the Rotary Club; president, Council on the Aging of Cleveland County; board of directors, Cleveland County Community Concerts Association; board of directors, Mental Health Association of Cleveland County. He was an antique clock collector.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hill Greene, who died in 1991.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha G. and Jack Packard of Mooresville and Sarah and Richard Goldman of Chelmsford, Mass.; four grandchildren, Deborah Packard Shutt and her husband, Grey, of Mooresville, Elizabeth Packard Arnold and her husband, Ben, of Decatur, Ga., Rachel A. Goldman of Arlington, Va. and Leah R. Goldman of Brighton, Mass.; and three great-grandchildren, Allison Shutt, Carson Shutt and William Arnold.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson with Dr. James Howell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church gathering space.
Palmer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Charles King
HICKORY - Mr. Charles King, of 1101 26th St., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Withrow's Funeral Home, Kings Mountain.
Lillie Fain
SHELBY - Mrs. Lillie Gillespie Fain, 83, of 1500 N. Post Road, formerly of China Grove, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1918, in Sevierville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Margaret Vaughn Gillespie. She attended Sevierville Schools and was retired from Rowan County Food Service, having worked at Bostian School cafeteria. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was formerly of Landis Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of Lois Rutledge Circle and formerly of Central Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Carey Gillespie.
She is survived by a son, Robert M. Fain of Shelby; a daughter, Judith F. Christy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at noon at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Parker officiating.
Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Efird officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Central Baptist Church.
Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home of China Grove is in charge of arrangements.
