Harol Wright
ELLENBORO - Mr. Arthur Harol Wright, 72, of Webb Church Road, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his residence. He was a native of Cleveland County and a son of the late Cletus and Florence Hayes Wright. He retired as a cost accountant for Dover & Doran Textiles and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Gideons, Forest City Camp, and Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. He is survived by his wife, Betty Whisnant Wright of the home; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Phil and Pam Wright of Norfolk, Va., and Neil and Crystal Wright of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Allen Gillikin of Ellenboro; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Colon Wright of Marion and Carol and Billie Sue Wright of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Wright, Adam Wright, Katie Wright, Michael Wright, Hannah Wright, Alex Gillikin, Bethany Gillikin and Catherine Gillikin. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Drs. Jim Whitlow and Wayne Blackwood and the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. 'Jim' Carter Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. James "Jim" Lee Carter Sr., 62, of 3733 Robert Ridings Road, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cleveland County and was a retired master sergeant in the Army. He served in the Vietname War with the 101st Airborne and the 82nd Airborne. He worked at PPG Industries for 23 years as a utility technician and he attended Love Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances White; a brother, Bud Carter, and his parents, Charles Lee and Della Ramsey Carter. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Martin Carter; two sons and daughters-in-law, James L. Jr. and Tonya Carter of Shelby and Michael S. and Loretta Carter of Kings Mountain; three brothers, John Carter of Sharon, S.C., Tom Carter of Shelby and David Carter of Polkville; five sisters, Martha Bridges of Lawndale, Betty Champion of Cherryville, Joyce Huber of Shelby, Eloise Dysart of Mooresboro and Virginia Foster of Swainsville, and nine grandchildren, Brittney, Jamie, Tabitha, Carmeron, Dillon, Brandon, Shawn Paul, Tyler and Christian Carter. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Love Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Philbeck and Fred Helms officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park with full military honors. MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Mrs. Abbie R. Propst, formerly of Shelby, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Cranbury Center-Genesis Elder Care in Monroe Township. Born in Marion, she resided in Monroe Township for the past five years and in Shelby for 50 years. She was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby. Her first husband, Fritz E. Dale, was killed during World War II. Wife of the late J. Flay Propst, she is survived by two daughters, Judy Dale Vandenbergh of Plainsboro, N.J., and Mary Dale Poteat of Lenoir; a sister, Elsie Clarke of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney and Glen Scherholz, Patrick Satkowski, Julie and Tim Novak, Jennifer and Ray Franklin; and two great-grandchildren, Abbie and Mary Novak. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church. A.S. Cole Funeral Home of Cranbury, N.J. is in charge of arrangements.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Frank Jackson, 75, of Kingswood Apartments, Apartment 4A, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Marion and Anna Childers Jackson. He was a former employee of Weisner Security in Gastonia and a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Peterson Jackson; a son, Johnny Michael Jackson; two brothers, Tommy Jackson and Floyd Jackson; and a sister, Jeanette Jackson Frisbee. He is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Jackson Hall of Kings Mountain; two brothers, George Jackson and Stoney Jackson, both of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Carrie J. Allmond and Vangie J. Ramsey, both of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Jonathan Jackson and his wife, Pam, of Bessemer City, Tonya H. Crawford and her husband, Mike, of Kings Mountain and Tommy Eugene Hall Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Jackson, Landry Crawford, Zachary Crawford and Katylin Haskins. SHELBY - Mrs. Thelma Poston Dillingham, of Somerset Court, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Century Care of Shelby. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Daniel and Grace Paxton Poston. She retired from Shelby Mill Co. after 36 years, where she was supervisor of the supply room, also worked at Betty Jo's Florist for 17 years, served as a Girl Scout leader and a member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Eunice Poston of Shelby; two nieces, Beth Cameron and her husband, Bill, and Julie Smith and her husband, John; a nephew, Phil Poston and his wife, Donna; two great-nieces, Jenny Cameron and Katie Poston; three great-grandnephews, Chris Cameron, Alex Smith and Samuel Smith. The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jacob Harding of the home; a brother, James T. West III of Shelby; and two sisters, Myra Bradley of Lawndale and Amy Rudisill of Bostic. BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Grace C. Harmon, 72, of 213 W. College Ave., died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. John Roland and Lettie Henderson Cantrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. She worked at Cleveland Memorial Library and Gardner-Webb College, where she was a librarian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Cletus H. Cantrell; and a sister, Letha Cantrell Cole. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, "Bud" Harmon Sr. of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Sue Harmon of Boiling Springs and Ansel Jr. and Pam Harmon of Mooresboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Letha Grace Harmon and Jerry Bradley of Boiling Springs; six grandsons, Jerry Harmon of Mooresboro, John and Christa Harmon, Chris Morrison, Brian Morrison, Brad Harmon and Shane Bradley, all of Boiling Springs; a great-granddaughter, Lauren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John W. and Evelyn Cantrell of Linville. A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery with Drs. Carroll Page and David Irish and the Rev. Elwood Orr officiating.
