The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Rev. Scott Butler officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Carolyn Henderson Dixon, 69, of 114 Kay St., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital, Rutherfordton. The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Revs. Bryan Melton and Jerry Ruppe officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Max Falls
BESSEMER CITY — Mr. Max Elam Falls, 61, of 407 E. Gaston Ave., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bessemer City First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen Hannah officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Westview Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Sisk Butler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bessemer City First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Willie Weaver
SHELBY — Mr. Willie R. Weaver, 68, of 216 Gold Street, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Reggie and Margie W. Weaver. He retired from Reliance Electric, where he was a machine operator for 10 years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, former member of Shelby Community Lions Club and a 1952 graduate of Number Three High School. He served in the Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Loran Weaver; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Navey and J.C. Wilson; and a grandson, Cole Garver. He is survived by his wife, Mary Grayson Weaver of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Rick Garver of Lawndale; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Scott and Kammie Weaver of Mooresboro; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Jack Hamrick of Ellenboro, Mary and Gene Parker of Casar, Ruth and Dick Theis of Shelby, Carol and Mike Sepaugh of Rutherfordton, Bernice Navey of Stanley and Mildred Wilson of Shelby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.E. and Charlene Weaver of Polkville and Pete and Nellie Weaver of Boiling Springs; a sister-in-law, Ruth Weaver of Shelby; two grandsons, Dustin Garver of Lawndale and Elijah Weaver of Mooresboro; a granddaughter, Callie Garver of Lawndale; and numerous nephews and nieces. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Franks, Mike Sepaugh and David Fambrough officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Drive, Shelby, NC 28150, or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to North Shelby School, 1205 Northside Drive, Shelby, NC. Rosemond Street
COLUMBUS — Mrs. Rosemond Linville Street, 79, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in the Medical Assistant Living Center at Tryon Estates in Columbus. Born Jan. 27, 1923, in Erwin, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Delia Linville. She is survived by her husband, Dwight Kenneth Street of Columbus; her two sons, Dwight K. Street Jr. of Monroe and Michael Roy Street of Cedaredge, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A memorial service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Fairfield Mountains Chapel in Lake Lure. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glenn Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.

Mae Randall
SHELBY — Mrs. Mae Foster Randall, 82, of 2923 Nickey Sharts Road, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Stella Carroll Foster. She retired from Coca-Cola Co. as a vending hostess and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Wilson L. Randall; a brother, Lewis Foster, three sisters, Jay Foster Hampton, Gertrude Foster Neal and Eula Foster Bell; and a son-in-law, Nickey Sharts. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda R. Sharts of Shelby; a brother-in-law, Claude Bell of Kings Mountain; a sister-in-law, Vera Foster of Grover; two grandchildren and their spouses, Pam S. and Brinkley Isaacs and Penny S. and Eric Clontz, all of Shelby; and a great-grandchild, Breanna Nicole Clontz. A graveside service will be today at 4:30 p.m. in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Gordon officiating. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. Memorials may be made to Life Enrichment Center, 1270 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150; or to New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 116, Earl, NC 28038. Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell Ingram
BOILING SPRINGS — Mrs. Jewell Davis Ingram, 87, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late J.F. and Bertha Self Davis. She retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant after 50 years of service and was a member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church. She was the widow of William T. Ingram. She is survived by two sons, Bill D. Ingram of Forest City and Gene Ingram of Indianola, Iowa; a daughter, Patsy Dothard of Jacksonville, Ala.; a brother, William Greene of Mooresville; two sisters, Dot Beason of Gaffney, S.C. and Mozelle Blackwell of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. Zeb Young
SALISBURY — Mr. Zeb Perry Young, 55, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born July 19, 1946, in Rowan County, he was a son of Vela Mae Miller Young of Salisbury and the late Zeb Frank Young. He was a 1965 graduate of East Rowan High School and earned an associate degree in agriculture from North Carolina State University in 1967. He also received numerous certifications in electronics and computers. In 2001, he retired due to health reasons from the Rowan-Salisbury Schools. He was an audio-visual computer technician. He was a member of Organ Lutheran Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Trexler Young, who he married in 1979; a son, Clayton Joe Young of Shelby; and a sister, Gail McBride of Fort Myers, Fla. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell with the Rev. John E. Pless officiating. Burial will be in Organ Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family received friends Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 1515 Organ Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Melvin J. Roberts
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Melvin Jacob Roberts, 64, of 102 Ebenezer Road, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with the Rev. James McClain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church. J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille F. Roberts
SHELBY — Mrs. Lucille Franklin Roberts, 97, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Shelby. A native of Blacksburg, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice Franklin and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melrose Roberts, a son, the Rev. J.W. Roberts, and a sister, Ethel Franklin. She leaves to cherish fond memories, one daughter-in-law, Eliza Roberts of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Lula Mae Roberts of Grover and Selena Boulware of Shelby; seven grandchildren, the Rev. Donald Freeman and his wife, Lula, Jerome Roberts, Kay Roberts and Anita Gray, all of Shelby, Bryant Roberts of Cleveland, Ohio, and Theresa Roberts and Jason Roberts, both of Bridgeport, Conn.; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Methodist Church with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church on Wednesday, and other times at 216 Morrison St., Shelby. Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

LAKE LURE— Mrs. Nancy Osgood Curtis, 64, of 324 Bolt Road, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Unity Center of Christianity with the Rev. Chad O’Shea officiating. Memorials may be made to Unity Center of Christianity, Fletcher, NC 28732. Lillian Hamm
SHELBY — Mrs. Lillian Grigg Hamm, 87, of 1404 N. Lafayette St., died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late P.M. and Zulia White Grigg. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Arthur Hamm. She is survived by a stepson and wife, Paul Jr. and Dot Ham of Kings Mountain; a brother, Roy Grigg of Shelby; two stepgranddaughters and their spouses, Jody and David Parker of Goldsboro and Paula and Rob Wilson of Kings Mountain; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Robin Perkins and Chad Perkins both of Kings Mountain, Wesley Parker and Ben Parker both of Goldsboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her brother, Roy Grigg, 810 Kings Road, Shelby. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Virginia Jenkins
HENRIETTA — Mrs. Virginia Godfrey Jenkins, 78, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Pauline Flynn Godfrey. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Race Path Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Gaston Bailey; a daughter, Linda Bostic; and a grandson, David Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Dan Jenkins; a son, Barry Bailey of Gaffney, S.C.; a daughter, Gail Toney of Forest City; two brothers, John Godfrey of Forest City and Bill Godfrey of Spindale; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Snyder of Forest City and Mrs. Martha Crenshaw of Register, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. John Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Harrelson Funeral Home of Caroleen is in charge of arrangements.

John Philbeck
GATESVILLE, Texas — Mr. John Wayne Philbeck, 66, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Gatesville Hospital. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home with Michael Bond officiating. John Francis
SPINDALE — Mr. John Howard Francis, 90, of 1012 Miller St., died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church and a retired brick mason. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Francis of Spindale; two sons, James Francis of Vaux Hall, N.J. and Gary Francis of Spindale; six daughters, Gaynelle Roberts of Shelby, Julia Howell of Vaux Hall, Virginia Duffy of Spindale, Carolyn Head and Marjorie Patterson, both of Spindale and Shirley Manigault of Winston-Salem; a brother, Richard Francis of Rutherfordton; twenty grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Russell Tabernacle C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Timothy Brown officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Thompson Brothers Funeral Home of Forest City is in charge of arrangements.

Boyce Freeman
SHELBY - Mr. Boyce Thomas Freeman, 93, of 2106 Polkville Road, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born in Bat Cave, he was a son of the late Charles Lee and Adeline Leah Huntley Freeman. He worked at Lake Lure Lumber Co. and retired from Cleveland Lumber Co., where he was a shop foreman for 68 years. He belonged to First Baptist Church for more than 62 years and was secretary of the Adult III Department and a choir member for 30 years. After retirement, he grew flowers at Freeman's Flower Farm for the enjoyment of friends and relatives. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in Trinidad. The United Daughters of Confederates presented him with the Distinguished Service Cross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Freeman, and five sisters, Nora Searcy, Jessie Sinclair, Kate McCurry, Aileen Lytle and Charlotte Reed. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Hall Freeman of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret and Ralph Anderson of Asheville, Betty and Addison Hill of Black Mountain and Jo Ann Surratt of Shelby; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Revs. Tony Tench and Bulo Price officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church after the service, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Thomasville Baptist Home or First Baptist Church. Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
