SHELBY — Mrs. Maude Davis Davis, 84, of 916 College Ave., died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Minnie Bowen Davis. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Wilbur Davis; and a brother, Max Davis. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roe “Red” and Connie Davis of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nina Davis and Muriel and Sam Mills, all of Shelby; two grandsons and their wives, Doug and Sherry Davis of Shelby and Britt and Crystal Mills of Modesto, Calif.; three granddaughters and their husbands, Vickie and Rusty Morrison, Candy and Rick Ayers, and Haley and Howard Allen, all of Shelby; six great grandchildren, Douglas Davis, Mandy Davis, Landon Morrison, Tyler Allen, Erik Allen, and Lauren Allen, all of Shelby; and a sister, Madge Jones of Boiling Springs. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Popular Springs Baptist Church with Dr. James Richardson officiating. The body will be placed in the church for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home. SHELBY — Mr. Gary Todd “Toby” Wyatt, 34, of 3710 Robert Ridings Road, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at his home. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he worked on the line assembly at Copeland Industries and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Lee Wyatt; and a sister, Kimberly Lee Wyatt Coyle. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Frances Mullinax and Ben Bowen of Shelby; a sister, Loretta Dawn Mathis of Gaffney; a stepsister, Tammy Walker of Shelby; maternal grandmother, Louise Mullinax of Gaffney; and paternal grandparents, Luther and Ruth Wyatt of Cowpens, S.C. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ken Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in Fredrick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney. CHARLOTTE — Mr. William Forest Peeler, 96, of 5839 Pepperhill Road, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Caleb and Caroline Peeler. He retired from the City of Shelby. He was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church and Hopewell Lodge No. 12. He is survived by two sons, William Peeler of Charlotte and James E. Peeler of Shelby; six daughters, Carrie Peeler Ashe of Danville, Va., Carolyn M. Peeler of Richmond, Va., Gwendolyn Peeler Stokes and Emily Peeler, both of Charlotte, Margaret Peeler McCluney and Mattie Peeler Ross, both of Shelby; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Lawndale with Bishop Thomas McCluney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born March 31, 1935, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Lee and Mary Dellinger Jarrett. She was a member of Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church and had worked in the furniture industry. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Bob Bridges of Lawndale; a grandson, Dean White and his wife, Danette, of Lawndale; a granddaughter, Anissa Hudson and her husband, Ricky, of Casar; a cousin, Catherine Garrett of Conover; a special friend, Martha Fulbright of Vale; and one great-grandchild. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Mr. Boyce W. “Bucky” Conner, 84, of 311 65th Ave. N., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Conway Hospital. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Oliver Cleveland and Ricy Hawkins Conner. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in the Armored Infantry, European Theater, and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired after 25 years from PPG Industries as Air Conditioning Technician. He was a Methodist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Kearney Conner; two brothers, Max and Roy Connor; two sisters, Gladys Connor and Aileen Hartland. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Ann Conner of Wilmington; two brothers, O.C. Connor Jr. of Shelby and Charles Connor of Gastonia; a grandchild, Jocat Conner of Wilmington; and a special friend, Louise Strickland of Myrtle Beach. Born in Commerce, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Harvey H. and Mabel Bridges White. She retired from Esther Mill Co. She was a charter member of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a very faithful member and choir member. She also worked with the Foster Grandparents Program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Matthew York. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronald Denton Sr. of Morganton; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Melinda York of Shelby; four grandchildren, Shandy Denton, Ronald Denton Jr., Matthew Denton and Ashley York; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Barr, Courtney Barr and Christian Barr.
