SHELBY — Mrs. Maude Davis Davis, 84, of 916 College Ave., died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Minnie Bowen Davis. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Wilbur Davis; and a brother, Max Davis. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roe “Red” and Connie Davis of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nina Davis and Muriel and Sam Mills, all of Shelby; two grandsons and their wives, Doug and Sherry Davis of Shelby and Britt and Crystal Mills of Modesto, Calif.; three granddaughters and their husbands, Vickie and Rusty Morrison, Candy and Rick Ayers, and Haley and Howard Allen, all of Shelby; six great grandchildren, Douglas Davis, Mandy Davis, Landon Morrison, Tyler Allen, Erik Allen, and Lauren Allen, all of Shelby; and a sister, Madge Jones of Boiling Springs. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Popular Springs Baptist Church with Dr. James Richardson officiating. The body will be placed in the church for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 1106 Poplar Springs Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28152.

‘BUD’ HOYLE
LINCOLN COUNTY — Mr. Maurice “Bud” Hoyle, 73, of 104 Putnam St., died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Arrangements will be announced by Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

‘TOBY’ WYATT
SHELBY — Mr. Gary Todd “Toby” Wyatt, 34, of 3710 Robert Ridings Road, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at his home. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he worked on the line assembly at Copeland Industries and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Lee Wyatt; and a sister, Kimberly Lee Wyatt Coyle. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Frances Mullinax and Ben Bowen of Shelby; a sister, Loretta Dawn Mathis of Gaffney; a stepsister, Tammy Walker of Shelby; maternal grandmother, Louise Mullinax of Gaffney; and paternal grandparents, Luther and Ruth Wyatt of Cowpens, S.C. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ken Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in Fredrick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church Building Fund, 123 Beaver Dam Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28152.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Paul A. Hord Sr., 92, of 1054 York Road, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at White Oak Manor. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Oak View Baptist Church with the Revs. David Kime and Jamie Billing officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

MACK KNIGHT
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Mack Arthur Knight, 87, of 1121 Jennifer Lane, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Carolina Care. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home. Carpenter’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BEATRICE WATERS
FOREST CITY — Mrs. Beatrice Lancaster Waters, 89, of Sunnyside Rest Home, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. The funeral will be today at 3 at Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt and the Rev. Earl Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Floyds Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. in the narthex of the church. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM PEELER
CHARLOTTE — Mr. William Forest Peeler, 96, of 5839 Pepperhill Road, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Caleb and Caroline Peeler. He retired from the City of Shelby. He was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church and Hopewell Lodge No. 12. He is survived by two sons, William Peeler of Charlotte and James E. Peeler of Shelby; six daughters, Carrie Peeler Ashe of Danville, Va., Carolyn M. Peeler of Richmond, Va., Gwendolyn Peeler Stokes and Emily Peeler, both of Charlotte, Margaret Peeler McCluney and Mattie Peeler Ross, both of Shelby; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Lawndale with Bishop Thomas McCluney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Dockery’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Cynthia Ann Wilson Patterson, 54, of 130 Murdock Lane, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Crowe’s Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Alley and Paul Lane officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

SHIRLEY HURT
VALE — Mrs. Shirley Faye Jarrett Morgan Hurt, 66, of 6134 Smith Road, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Brian Center East. Born March 31, 1935, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Lee and Mary Dellinger Jarrett. She was a member of Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church and had worked in the furniture industry. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Bob Bridges of Lawndale; a grandson, Dean White and his wife, Danette, of Lawndale; a granddaughter, Anissa Hudson and her husband, Ricky, of Casar; a cousin, Catherine Garrett of Conover; a special friend, Martha Fulbright of Vale; and one great-grandchild. A graveside service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Benfield officiating. Memorials may be made to Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church, 4018 Killian Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092. Drum Funeral Home of Conover is in charge of arrangements. ‘BUCKY’ CONNER
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Mr. Boyce W. “Bucky” Conner, 84, of 311 65th Ave. N., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Conway Hospital. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Oliver Cleveland and Ricy Hawkins Conner. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in the Armored Infantry, European Theater, and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired after 25 years from PPG Industries as Air Conditioning Technician. He was a Methodist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Kearney Conner; two brothers, Max and Roy Connor; two sisters, Gladys Connor and Aileen Hartland. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Ann Conner of Wilmington; two brothers, O.C. Connor Jr. of Shelby and Charles Connor of Gastonia; a grandchild, Jocat Conner of Wilmington; and a special friend, Louise Strickland of Myrtle Beach. A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends at graveside after the service. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 East Marion St., Shelby, NC 28150. Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BOSTIC — Mr. Joseph John Penrose, 40, died Thursday, March 21, 2002. A memorial service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. John Terris Jr., 73, of 813 Landing St., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital. A graveside service will be today at 5 p.m. in Mountain Rest Cemetery with Ray Wardman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home. FOREST CITY — Mr. James Wilson Songster, 64, of 245 Webb Drive, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton. A memorial service will be today at 2 p.m. at The Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Virginia York
SHELBY — Mrs. Virginia W. York, 73, of 2109 Robins Place, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Commerce, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Harvey H. and Mabel Bridges White. She retired from Esther Mill Co. She was a charter member of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a very faithful member and choir member. She also worked with the Foster Grandparents Program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Matthew York. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronald Denton Sr. of Morganton; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Melinda York of Shelby; four grandchildren, Shandy Denton, Ronald Denton Jr., Matthew Denton and Ashley York; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Barr, Courtney Barr and Christian Barr. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Davidson Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Ridge officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Davidson Memorial Baptist Church, 900 Mark Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.

LINCOLNTON — Mr. Zenius “Buck” Dellinger, 51, of 1869 Thornhill Lane, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Lincoln Middle School Gymnasium with the Revs. Ron Haithcock and Nathan Grooms officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home in Cherryville. BOSTIC — Mrs. Linda Suttle Allen, 55, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church. Sharon P. Franklin
MOUNT HOLLY — Mrs. Sharon P. Franklin, 48, of 904 Belmont-Mount Holly Road, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home. A native of Belmont, she was a daughter of the late David Obie Pearson Sr. She formerly worked at Holy Angels, was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Moose Chapter No. 1625 and was active with American Legion Post No. 144. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger Dale Franklin Jr. and Summer Foster of the home; her mother, Harriet Langley Pearson of the home; two sisters, Bonnie Pearson Hargett of Belmont and Sheila Bone Christopher of Mount Holly; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David O. Pearson Jr. of Cramerton and Christopher Shane and Laura Moran Pearson of Mount Holly; two grandchildren, Tyler Chase McAbee and Brianna Marie Franklin; two nieces, Misty Leigh Graham and Hayley Marie Pearson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be Saturday at noon in the Bumgardner Chapel of McLean Funeral Home in Belmont with the Rev. Joe Lawing officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O.
