Carl Randy "Rowdy" Kelly
Carl Randy "Rowdy" Kelly, age 58, of Old Fort died on Thursday, June 10, at The McDowell Hospital.
He was born in McDowell County to the late Theary and Lottie Faye Haney Kelly. He was a self-employed brick mason.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Kelly of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Tammy Cox and Lisa Queen, both of Hickory; two brothers, Wayne Kelly of Maiden and Mike Kelly of Old Fort; special friends, Linda Brooks of Old Fort, Sadie Woody of Marion, Agnes Bailey of Old Fort and June Hill of Marion; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort on Saturday at 4 p.m. conducted by Rev. Ray Holland.
The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Ruby Viola Worley Dalton
Mrs. Ruby Viola Worley Dalton, 77, of Marion, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 17, 2004, at her residence. Born August 29, 1927 in Rowan County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Houston Caney Worley and Eva Torbush Worley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dalton was also preceded in death by her husband, Loman Dalton and a daughter, Linda Laws. She attended the Living Waters Tabernacle.
A loving mother, grandmother and friend, Mrs. Dalton leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Hazel Holland and husband, Kenneth, of Marion; two step-daughters, Dorothy Dalton and Leona Burnette, both of Marion; a sister, Essie Davis, of Old Fort; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several step-grandchildren; a best friend, Doris Souther, of Old Fort and many friends at Blue Ridge Terrace Apartments.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Dalton will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, December 19, 2004, at the State Street Church of God with the Reverend Billy Stockton officiating. Interment will follow at the McDowell Memorial Park.
The family will gather 6:00PM-8:00PM, Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Mrs. Dalton’s residence, 116 Carson Street, Apt. 3, Marion, NC 28752.

Mrs. Odell Bumgarner Foss
Mrs. Odell Bumgarner Foss, 76, of Old Creek Road in Morganton died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Grace Hospital. Born in Burke County August 14, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Frank Bumgarner and Mary Benton Bumgarner. Her Husband Fred Foss, son William Foss and a sister Mildred Gates preceded her in death.
Mrs. Foss was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church in Morganton and had retired from Roses.
She is survived by: son Leon Foss and wife Sylvia of Morganton; daughter Rosalita Rufty and husband Bill of Denver N.C.; brothers Eli Bumgarner, Robert Bumgarner, Johnny Bumgarner all of Morganton; sister Betty McKee of Morganton; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, May 12, 2003 at Mount Home Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6 till 7:30 Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Susan McNeilly Turner
Susan McNeilly Turner, 97, of Morganton, died Monday, October 13, 2003 at Morganton Long Term Care. She was born on November 27, 1905 in Cleveland County and was daughter of the late Julius McNeilly and Eliza Hoyle McNeilly.
She retired from Broughton Hospital and was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Hickman Turner; daughter, Jeanette Turner Mull and an infant brother.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Robin Hart and Faith Hughes both of Morganton; grandson, Tim Price of Ft. Benning, GA; great grandchildren, Chance and Chelsea Hensley of Asheville and John David Price of Ft. Benning, GA., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 17, 2003 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Morganton with Reverend Tom Stinson-Wesley officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church in Casar, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas Caldwell Avery
Mr. Thomas Caldwell Avery went home to be with his lord on Thursday, July 1, 2004. He was born in Burke County on October 10, 1922 to the late Dock James Avery and Mattie Corpening Avery. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his brothers James Avery, Dock Alfred Avery, John Wesley Avery, William McKinley Avery, Ty Boyd Avery; and his sisters Lutishia Avery Roseboro, Margaret Avery, Conley, Mamie Avery Chambers, Della Avery Upshaw, Fannie Avery Carson, Essie Avery, Sally Avery and a infant sister.
Mr. Avery was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army where he earned a Purple Heart.
He is survived by a host of Nephews and Nieces.
A funeral service for the family will be held at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton at a later date. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Henry H. “Sonnie” Harris, Jr.
Mr. Henry H. “Sonnie” Harris, Jr., 73, of Jenkins Road, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003. He was born in Burke County December 20, 1929 and was son of the late Henry H. Harris, Sr. and Edna Souther Harris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Sue Harris Puckett.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eve Jeanette Duckworth Harris; daughter, Candy Harris Smith of Morganton; sisters, Nancy Beck and husband Roland; Nina Coursey and husband Don; Carolyn Teseneer and husband, Ronald; Linda Curtis and husband Randy, all of Morganton; granddaughter, Sandy Smith Grady of Morganton and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverends, David Gay, April Abernathy and Frances Tate officiating. Entombment will follow the service at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Candy Smith on Goodman Lake Road.

Mary Hall Isom
Mary Hall Isom, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2003.
Born in Haywood County on October 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton Hall and the late Dora-Bell Morrow Hall. She lived in McDowell County for 70 years and was a retired Nurse Aid with the McDowell Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Hill Free Will Baptist Church of Nebo, and was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Mrs. Isom is preceded in death by her husband, David Ralph Isom; one infant daughter, Arzella Isom; two sisters, Annie Mathis and Lillie Belle Dockery; six brothers, Jerry Hall, William David Hall, Jay Hugh Hall, Roy Hall, Ervin Cebran Hall, and Manson Medford Hall.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Childers and her husband Larry, and Mattie McGee and her husband Fred; one brother, Rufus Hall and his wife Evelyn; two sisters, Edith Buchanan and her husband Calvin, and Ruby Hall and her husband Carl; two grandchildren, David Michael McGee and his wife, Susan, and Becky McGee Burleson and her husband, Benny; four great-grandchildren, Britainy McGee, Jay Burleson, Justin Riddle, and Jessica Floyd; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Burleson.
Services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2003 at Trinity Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Nebo at 3 PM. The Reverends Dennis Hensley, Jerry McClain, and Dean Owenby will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Although the family will accept floral tributes, it was Mrs. Isom’s wish that donations also be made to her favorite charity, Hospice of McDowell County.

Nellie England
The gates were opened and an angel has come home to heaven. Nellie England, 94, formerly from Yancey County, N.C. died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in Charlotte, N.C. Born on February 8, 1910, she was the daughter of Millard Filmore Robinson and Nancy Jones Robinson. Mrs. England was retired from Broughton Hospital after 42 years of service. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her son, Bill Melton and his wife, Marian; her grandchildren, Kimberly and Tripp Melton; their mother, Eleanore Lonergan; and her three great-grandchildren, Casey, Abigail and Quinn. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William G. Melton and John England.
She was a caring mother and the best grandmother any grandkid could wish for. Her granddaughter often remarked that she was just like Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffin show, always available and always there for a hug. Nellie was a craftswoman who could knit, sew and do any kind of handwork and continued to knit until her early nineties, making afghans and scarves for everyone she knew.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Nellie England will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 2 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marian, N.C. The family will receive friends at the Kirksey Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the hour of the service. A brief graveside service will follow at the McDowell Park Cemetery.
Mr. Ronald Vane Fender
Mr. Ronald Vane Fender, 82, of Falls Street in Morganton died Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at Frye Regional Hospital in Hickory . Mr. Fender was born December 30, 1921 in Griswold Iowa to the late Everett Fender and Maude Evans Fender. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Mr. Fender was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morganton and was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy. He had retired from Great Lakes Carbon after twenty five years of service as an electrical supervisor and had been a member of the Morganton Fire Department for twenty six years.
He is survived by: his wife Ann Johnson Fender of the home; son Sam Martin Fender and wife Rebecca of Rutherford County; daughter Rhonda Pruett and husband James “Flash” Pruett of Morganton; sisters Lois Busic, Avis Duke, Elaine Choate all of Sparta, Jean Felts of McGrady N.C. ;grandchildren Amanda Ann Pruett and Joshua James Pruett.
A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday December 26, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Doctor Thomas Bland officiating. Burial will follow at 8:00 AM Monday, December 27, 2004 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Sunday at Kirksey Funeral Home.
