‘Sissy’ Babb
WELFORD, S.C. — Miss Rhonda Ann “Sissy” Babb, 35, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Augusta Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Rev. George Whitmire officiating. Burial will be in Harris Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today at the home of her mother, Kathleen Ruff Fuller of Harris, and Tuesday at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Bunnie Tate
SHELBY — Ms. Bunnie Peeler Tate, 48, of 412 Dover St., died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1953. She was a member of Voice of Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she served as Sabbath school superintendent for many years. She also served as children and youth Sabbath school teacher, was a former youth director, a faithful member of the usher board, a devoted choir member and member of the hospitality committee. She was a former devoted member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, James Peeler. She leaves to cherish fond memories her loving mother, Rosa Lee Jones Peeler of Shelby; her husband, Jackie Tate of Shelby; one daughter, Connie Peeler Lott, and her husband Johnny, of Shelby; one son, Christopher “Christian” Tate of the home; two brothers, Robert Jackson Jones, and his wife Marie, of Forest City, and Riley “Ray Peeler, and his wife Pam, of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Jasmine Lott, Johnny Lott Jr., Shaquan Ussery, Shania Webber and Cam’ron Tate; a sister-like cousin, Cassandra Jones; and many other relatives and friends. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns. CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Annie Mae Hastings Gantt, 86, of 1206 Tot Dellinger Road, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at home. SHELBY — Mrs. Betty Queen Gibson of 2210 Joe’s Lake Road, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late W.R. and Viola Queen. She worked as a production operator at PPG Industries and belonged to Faith Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Queen. She is survived by her husband, Dewey E. Gibson of the home; a daughter, Teresa Gail Gibson, and son, Todd Crandale Gibson, both of the home; a brother, Billy Queen, and a sister, Jo Anne Warlick, both of Shelby. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Goodman officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cook Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Bennett Bost Sr.
SHELBY — Mr. Bennett Wesley Bost Sr., 86, of 100 Hillside Drive, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late “L.C.” and Eula Bennett Bost. He was vice president of Bost Bakeries and was a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bennett Bost Jr.; a brother, Lloyd C. Bost; and two sisters, Margaret Johnson and Ruth Poston. He is survived by his wife, Velma Webb Bost of the home; two sons, James Webb Romer of Shelby and John A. Romer of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Jean Bost-Moore and her husband, Bruce, of Kingsport, Tenn., and Brenda Bost Heaney and her husband, Jim, of Pelion, S.C.; two brothers, Ned W. Bost and Floyd P. Bost and his wife, Jeanette, all of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Virginia Bost of Shelby; and six grandchildren, Emily Jean, Krystal Lynn, Allison Rene Romer, James Lon White, Russell Andre Haygood and Andrea Tenaha Haygood. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church sanctuary with Dr. Gene Watterson and the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Alice Maness Haney, 86, widow of the late Charlotte police captain Ellis Thomas “E.T.” Haney, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center. A native of the Weddington community, Mrs. Haney was an avid gardener and outdoors person and the devoted mother of two daughters. The family received friends from 6:30 until 8:30 Friday at Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Charlotte’s Evergreen Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. John Boggs, pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Shelby, will officiate. A eulogy will be delivered by her daughter, Mrs. Sandra H. Allen. Special music will be presented by Mrs. Gina Reeves of Shelby. Mrs. Haney is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Allen and her husband, Jim, of Charlotte and Shelby and Mrs. Judith Carol Beachley of Matthews; and a grandson, Timothy Cameron Beachley of Nashville, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late William Lester and Blanche Godfrey Maness of Weddington. Mrs. Haney was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Anne Maness Therrell of Charlotte and Mrs. Hazel Pressley of Waxhaw; and three brothers, Earl and James Maness of Indian Trail and Paul Maness of Waxhaw. The daughters and her beloved cat, Yellow Bell, extend their thanks to the nurses at Carolinas Medical Center and Carolinas Home Care for their loving and compassionate care during their mother’s illness.

SHELBY — Mrs. Annie Ruth Borders, 73, of 140 Thamon Road died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was born Dec. 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Ada Young Miller. She was raised in the Washington Community by foster parents, William and Janie Matthews. She attended Washington High School and was a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Missionary Circle. She was a member of the Saint Mearon Court No. 6, Herione and Jericho. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jilandra M. Reaves. She is survived by a husband, Thamon Caleb Borders; a brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Julie Davis of Norcross, Ga.; 11 children and their spouses, Anna T. Hogue of Wheaton, Md., Blondeen and Lacy Reaves of Chapel Hill, Thamon V. and Betty Borders of Durham, Katrinka L. Borders of Chapel Hill, Larry C. and Virginia Borders of Durham, Cheryel Borders of Greenbelt, Md., Constance and Benny Shell of Shelby, Mitzi and George Glenn of Chapel Hill, Michael and Susan Borders of Shelby, Bryant L. A native of Gainesville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Fate and Cammie Edwards Livsey. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Herons of Jericho of Shelby. She was a retired employee of Burton Dixie of Blacksburg, S.C. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bernice West of the home; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan of Shelby; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
