Mr. George Weston, Jr.
Mr. George Weston, Jr., 68, of Andy Williams Street, Morganton, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was born January 9th 1935 in Bloomingdale, New Jersey and was son of the late George Weston, Sr. and Harriet Andersen Weston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Weston Whisenant and Joan Weston Whisenant.
Mr. Weston was retired from Dixie Container Company.
He is survived by his wife, Moria Dhondt Weston of the home, daughters, Paula Lynn Weston and Patricia Colleen Weston both of Morganton, Bonnie Ann Weston of Paterson, NJ; son, George Brian Weston, of Paterson, NJ; brothers, Robert Weston and wife, Pat, of Little Falls, NJ; Paul Weston of Tucson, AZ ; sisters, Ruth Rowlands of Franklin, NJ, Barbara Laubshire of Fair Lawn, NJ, Judith Roberts of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Georgina Weston, Perry Dellinger, Jr., and Taylor Weston and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Weston will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 10th at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverend Tommy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Church Cemetery in Morganton, NC. The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 9th from 7:00 to 9:00 at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Robert Evel Rhom
Robert Evel Rhom, age 31, of Moody Town Rd., Marion died Sunday, October 5, 2003 in Mission Hospital, Asheville, N.C.
Born in McDowell County to Terry Burleson of Marion and Brenda Buchanan Burleson also of Marion, he was an employee of Western Carolina Vault.
Surviving in addition to his father and mother are one brother, Steve Rhom of Marion; two step-sisters, Ginger Packett of Marion and Weezy Burleson of Tennessee; a maternal grandmother, Hazel Buchanan of Marion ; two nephews, Nikki and Austin Rhom of Marion; two special friends, Keith Woody and Rita McMahan; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held 2:00 o’clock Wednesday, October 8, 2003 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Revs. Jack Ward and Roger Hayley will officiate with burial following in Hall Town Rd. Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bonnie Jackson Watson
Bonnie Jackson Watson, age 75, of Salem Church Road, Old Fort, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at her residence.
Born in McDowell County to the late Marion Edward Jackson and Effie Mae Walker Jackson, she was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Randy Watson; two daughters, Janet Spake and Elaine Watson; one brother, Donald Jackson, all of Old Fort; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004 in the Old Fort Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Holcombe will officiate with burial following in Salem Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Children’s Home, Black Mountain, N.C.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Smith Spor
Mrs. Mary Ruth Smith Spor, 74, of Newland, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 16, 2004, at her residence. Born May 23, 1930 in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy Ledford and Lucy Mae Scott Ledford. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spor was also preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Smith. She was a member of the Cross Roads Assembly of God.
A wonderful wife, sister, mother & grandmother, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Roy Lawrence Spor, of the home; two sons, Lee Edward Smith and Jimmy Harold Smith, both of Asheville, NC; three daughters, Edna Moore and Margaret Moxley, both of Asheville, NC and Judy Franklin, of Newland, NC; also surviving Mrs. Spor is a sister, Georgia Hall, of Monks Corner, SC; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Spor will be held 12:00Noon, Monday, December 20, 2004, at the Chapel of the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Avery County Hospice.
Ms. Mary Juanita Rudicil
Ms. Mary Juanita Rudicil, 93, formerly of New Street in Morganton died, October 9, 2003 at McDowell Nursing Home in Marion. Born May, 7, 1910 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late William Marvin Rudicil and Bertha Whisenant Rudicil. Her brothers Ray Rudicil, Leith Rudicil and sisters Lillian Rudicil and Lettie R. Walker preceded her in death.
Ms. Rudicil was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morganton and had retired from Dr. Diercks as his dental assistance.
She is survived by: a sister Nancy “Nan” Rudicil of Morganton; Charles Rudicil, David Rudicil, Ed Rudicil, and Stephen Rudicil.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Burke Memorial Park with the Reverend Carl Lindquist officiating.
Memorials in Ms. Rudicil memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 100 King Street, Morganton NC 28655.

Sue Lawing Fender
Sue Lawing Fender, age 102, of Marion, died at McDowell Nursing Center on Wednesday.
Born in McDowell County to the late John B. Lawing and Ida Bell Reel Lawing, she was married to the late Roy Fender and was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Violet Henderson and Viola Wister.
She is survived by one son, Claude A. Fender of Canton, Ga.; one daughter, Lucille Fender of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one son-in-law, Emery Wister of Charlotte; three sister-in-laws, Mrs. E.R. Lawing, Mrs. Fuchia Poole and Annie Trantham, all of Marion.
Services were held at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. George Williams and Bill Warren conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In addition to floral tributes, memorials may be made in Mrs. Fender’s memory to the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary Anne Wilson
Mrs. Mary Anne Wilson, age 56, of Marion, died, Friday, December 17, 2004 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Asheville. Born in McDowell County January 4, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Robert Edward Parker and Edna Louise Turner Duncan, of Marion. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Wilson is also survived by her husband, Jerry Wayne “Henry” Wilson, of the home; a son, Frankie Wilson, of the home; a special son, Jake Miller, of Lakeview, FL; seven brothers, Robert Parker and wife, Nancy, of Marion, Roger Parker and wife, Trish, of Rock Hill, SC, William “Butch” Parker and Billy Parker, both of Marion, Truman Duncan and wife, Grace, of Marion, Joe Miller and wife, Rhonda, of Marion and Paul Miller and wife, Trish, all of Marion; two sisters, Peggy Casey and husband, John, of Rock Hill, SC and Donna Shuffler and husband, John, of Lakeview, FL; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Mrs. Wilson’s life will be held 6:00PM, Tuesday, December 21, at the Clinchfield Methodist Church with the Reverends Ray Davis and Chris Clayton officiating. The family will receive friends 4:00PM-6:00PM, prior to the Services at the Church. At the family’s request, please dress in casual attire for Mrs. Wilson’s Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Wilson’s memory to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan St., Marion, NC 28752.

Mrs. Iva Isabella Dale Walker
Mrs. Iva Isabella Dale Walker, 92, of Burkemont Road, passed away Friday, May 9, 2003 at Grace Hospital . Born in Burke County on September 8, 1910 she was the daughter of the late Grover D. Dale and Cora Dale.
Her beloved husband Elbert C. Walker ; sisters Ruby Ross and Eloise English preceded her in death.
She was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church.
She is survived by: daughters Ella Mae Waynick and husband Howard of Lincolnton, Catherine Powell of Morganton, Pauline Denton and husband Percy of Garden City S.C., Ruth Sheffield and husband Royce of Morganton; sister Estelene Melton of Morganton ; brother Luther Dale of Morganton; Grandsons Howard Waynick Jr., Larry Waynick, Todd Powell, Brad Powell, Craig Denton, Randall Sheffield; granddaughters Alisa Williams, Jana Lingafeldt, Kristen Sheffield; great grandchildren Maleah and Amanda Waynick, Seth and Elizabeth Lingafeldt, Chelsea Williams and Kristen Sheffield.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, May 10, 2003 at Burkemont Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverends Doctor Mark Pridgen and Eddie Bunton officiating.
The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Sunday, May 9, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Mr. Clarence Herbert Powell
Mr. Clarence Herbert Powell, 83, of Evans Street, Morganton died Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Grace Hospital. Born June 19, 1920 in Burke County he was the son of the late W.F. Powell and Ollie Clontz Powell. Brothers Clyde Powell, Samuel Powell; sisters Eula Harris, Beulah Evans, Margaret Whetstine and Ruth Whisenant preceded him in death.
Mr. Powell had retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company.
He is survived by: sisters Iva Wiseman and Betty P. Walker both of Morganton, a special friend Alene Mayfield and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
