John Joseph Brewer, 55, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held a later date. Kirksey Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mr. Von Herman Wilkie
Mr. Von Herman Wilkie, 56, of the Denton’s Chapel Road, a child of a God whose faith was strong, went home to Heaven on Saturday, March 13, 2004, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Von was born in Shelby NC on July 21, 1947 to the late James Cecil Wilkie and Edna Carico Wilkie of Morganton.
Watching the sunrise, following country roads just to see where they lead, discussing the Bible and the tenets of our faith and the Tennessee Mountains were Von’s favorite pastimes.
Von was a blessing from God to his wife Donna and to their children. His unconditional love and joy in life will always be with them. We look forward to being together again in Heaven. Von’s pride was seeing the children grow into strong, loving Christian adults, and his joy was each grandchild. Their joyous sound of “Papaw” always brought a smile to his heart and face.
His family includes sons Richard Lee McGalliard of Morganton, Joseph S. Jaynes and wife Angela , their children Anastasia and Darian of Morganton; David Jaynes and wife Tonya and their children Tyler , Austin and Callie of Morganton; Peter Jaynes and his children Angle Marie and Chancellor and a honorary grandchild Shoshanna Boggess all of California ; daughter Mary Jaynes Brush and husband Patrick and their children Heather Glazebrooks, Larry “Jay” Glazebrooks, and Alex Glazebrooks all of California, Von loved and enjoyed spending time with his father-in – law Hughes Crabtree of Glen Alpine. Brothers James T. Wilkie and wife Jean of Polkville; Jerry Dean Wilkie and wife Linda of Morganton; sisters Margaret Wilkie Brown of Morganton, Mary Wilkie of Morganton and Elaine Powell and husband James of Drexel.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Saint Charles Catholic Church with the Father Ken Whitting officiating. Following Von’s wishes, cremation will follow the Funeral Mass with Von’s remains kept at home with his wife until being scattered at a later date.
The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials in Mr. Wilkie’s memory be sent to the Burke County E.M.S., 200 Avery Avenue, Morganton NC 28655.

Mrs. Mary Annie Shuffler Mull
Mrs. Mary Annie Shuffler Mull, 81, of McNeely Drive in Valdese died Monday, August 9, 2004 at Grace Hospital. She was born September 9, 1922 in Burke County to the late Vert Shuffler and Ollie Whistant Shuffler. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Mull; sons Bennett Mull, Michael Mull and a daughter Rosa Lee Mull; brothers Claude Shuffler , Clyde Shuffler and a sister Eva Buff.
Mrs. Mull had retired from Impact Furniture and was a life long member of New Life Assembly in Icard.
She is survived by her children Charles Mull of Valdese, Ronald Mull of Morganton , Diane M. Childres and husband Jimmy of Morganton; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren .
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Colin Deal officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Wednesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.
Helena Browne Condrey
Helena Browne Condrey, 72, of Nebo, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005, at her residence. Born in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Jay Morgan and Mae Browne.
Surviving are her husband, James R. Condrey; two sons, Rick Condrey and wife, Susan of Nebo and Tony Condrey and wife, Cheryl of Nebo; one daughter, Lori Condrey and Rick Bowman of Nebo; two brothers, Charlie Morgan, of Clemmons and Jon Morgan, of Clyde; two sisters, Lois Conway, of Asheville and Betty Cogdill, of Clyde; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Condrey will be held 4:00PM, Friday, January 28, 2005, at Nebo United Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Leonard officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Ballew Memorial CEMETERY. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service at the church.

Mr. Leon Danny Green
Mr. Leon Danny Green, 52 of Morganton, died Thursday, June 23, 2005. He was born December 30, 1952 in Ft. Pierce, Florida and is son o Bailey Green and the late Allowee Wood Green.
Danny was a veteran of the US Army and an avid sportsman. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and greatly loved in return.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Nola Clark Green of Morganton; step-son, Matthew S. Barrier of Boone, NC; brother, Bailey Green, Jr. of Glennville, GA; sisters, Deborah Asbell of Gresston, GA; Cindy Lykes of Eastman, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June, 27, 2005 at Southerland Funeral Chapel in Eastman, GA. The family will receive friends at Stokes Southerland Funeral Home Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Asbell on Cochran Highway in Eastman, GA.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverend Dennis Hensley presiding. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
Mr. William Geno Handy
Mr. William Geno Handy, 62, of Ridgecreek Drive, Morganton died Monday. January 20, 2003 at Grace Heights Nursing Center. Born April 15, 1940 in Wilkes County he was the son of the late Brady Handy and Della Hincher Handy. Brother’s Guy Handy, John Handy, Pedro Handy, Claude Handy; sisters Lou Absher and Ola Handy preceded him in death.
Mr. Handy was a member of the Cane Creek Baptist Church and had retired from Singer Furniture.
He is survived by: his wife Sallie Wagoner Handy of the home, son Timothy “Tim” Handy of Morganton, daughter Tammy Handy of Morganton; grandson, Tracy Handy of Morganton; brothers Carlos Dean Handy of Morganton, Paul Handy, Gar Handy both of Lenoir; sisters Faye Coffey of Lenoir, Oza Hayes of Morganton, and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth Carswell Dale
Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth Carswell Dale, 106, formerly of Asheville N.C. died Friday , July 4, 2003 at Grace Heights Nursing where she had resided for the last eight years.
Born December 17, 1896 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late Azor and Mary Lou Smith Carswell . Her husband John W. Dale ; brothers Andrew Carswell, Madison , Carswell, Wallace Carswell; sisters Bertha Robinson and Candas Pruett preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dale had been a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville and was a homemaker who loved to cook and clean house.
She is survived by: nieces Mary R. Price, Charlene Secrest, Mary Lou Whisnant, Durlene Secrest, Jean Garrison ; nephews Ray Pruett and Roy Pruett.
Funeral services will be 3:30 Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Bob Gober and Floyd Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Jack Author Hudson
Mr. Jack Author Hudson, 70, of Old Fort, died, Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Asheville.
Born July 26, 1933, in Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Clyde Weldon “Fred” Hudson and Marjorie Quinn Hudson. Mr. Hudson served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Hudson is survived by his wife, Pauline Burnette Hudson, of the home; a son, Jeffery Allan Hudson, of Ridgecrest, NC; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Poupard, of CA; a brother, Eugene Hudson, of Jacksonville, FL; two step-sons, Arvle Davis, of Asheville, NC and Randy Davis, of Old Fort; also surviving are two granddaughters, April Ann Carroll and Brittany Rene Poupard; four step-grandchildren, Kyle Dean Davis, Christina Leigh Gilbert, Robert Davis & Richard Davis.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hudson will be held 1:00PM, Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort with the Reverends Keith Webb and Milton Hollifield officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Community Cemetery with military Honors being provided by the U.S. Air Force.

Barbara Johnson Hall
Barbara Johnson Hall, age 62, of Marion, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 in the McDowell Hospital.
Born in McDowell County to the late Willard Washington Johnson and Katherine Moore Smith, she was a former employee of Old Fort Finishing.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Hall; 5 sons, Randy E. Hall of Groton, Ct.; Barry L. Sanders, Danny R. Hall, Richard D. Hall, Johnny K. Hall all of Marion, NC; one daughter, Patricia H. Luna of Panama City, Fl.; 2 sisters, Eunice Connor and Connie Cagle both of Nebo, NC; one step-sister, Iva Hutchins of Black Mountain, NC; 24 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 o’clock, Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Revs. Robert Vance, Marty Conner and Eric Grindstaff will officiate with burial following in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 6:00 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Faye Waycaster
Mrs. Faye Waycaster, 83, of Marion, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at The McDowell Hospital. Born December 24, 1921, in Yancey County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Bradshaw and Mary Williams Bradshaw. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Waycaster was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Waycaster. She was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Little Switzerland and a homemaker.
A loving and sacrificing mother, she leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons, James Waycaster & wife, Libby, of Rutherfordton, NC, Bobby Waycaster, of the home, and John Waycaster, of Marion; A daughter, Judy Reynolds & husband, Robert, of Marion; Two brothers, Herman Bradshaw, of Burnsville, NC and John Bradshaw, of Clayton, GA; Three grandchildren, Mark Waycaster, of Anaheim, CA, Julie Waycaster, of Charleston, SC and Brad Waycaster, of Chapel Hill, NC; A special cousin, Minnie Robeck, of Santa Clara, CA; two cousins, Claude Williams , of Columbia, SC & Ellen Williams, of Burnsville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Friday, July 1, 2005, Graveside, at the Collis Cemetery, Little Switzerland, with the Reverend Richard Hollifield officiating. Those desiring to make memorials in Mrs. Waycaster’s memory may do so to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Greenville, SC or to the Southeastern Children’s Home, Duncan, SC.
