KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Virginia Cloninger Norris, 87, of 112 Castlewood Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Kathleen Lovelace Patterson, 80, of 732 Stoney Point Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Cleveland Pines in Shelby. She was born in Cleveland County, daughter of the late J. Osby and Lula Roberts Lovelace, widow of the late Leonard Mull Patterson, preceded in death by a son, Ike Patterson, and two brothers, Charles Lovelace and Robert Lovelace. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and former owner of Kathleen’s Nursery. She is survived by two sons, Gilbert D. Patterson and wife, Sadie, and Jeffery L. Patterson and wife, Lisa, all of Kings Mountain; a stepmother, Elizabeth Ledford Griffie; a brother, Kenneth Lovelace of Gastonia; a sister, Juanita Blanton of Chesnee, S.C.; grandchildren, Jerri Tate and husband, Dexter, Johnna Wyte and husband, Mark, Kevin Patterson and Tony Patterson, all of Kings Mountain, Leah Elizabeth Patterson, husband, Josh, of Shelby, and Becky Childers of Blacksburg, S.C.; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Brackett and Tim Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son Gilbert Patterson, 218 Putnam Lake Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. Sallie Wilkins
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mrs. Sallie Turner Wilkins, 72, of 128 Temple Lane, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, she was owner and operator of Wilkins Insurance Co. and belonged to United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Turner. She is survived by her husband, George Harry Wilkins of the home; her mother, Ruth Green Turner of Kings Mountain; four sons, George Wilkins Jr. and Bruce Wilkins, both of Blacksburg, Stephen R. Wilkins of Easley, S.C., and Dr. Philip Wilkins of Winnesboro, S.C.; a daughter, Sallie Hambright of Burlington; two brothers, the Rev. Joe Turner of Gaffney, S.C., and Jim Turner of Blacksburg; four sisters, Frances Gallman of Pensacola, Fla., Madge Haynes of Charlotte, Rachel Brezeale of Simpsonville and Carol Martin of Blacksburg; and 14 grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Buford St. United Methodist Church with the Revs. Scott Wachter, Dewey Dean and Vernon Craig officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers are Matthew Hambright, Philip Charles Wilkins Jr., Mark Wilkins, Drew Hambright, Paul Wilkins, Joel Bruce Wilkins Jr., Peter Wilkins and Harrison Wilkins. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the home. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342. Gordon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

‘Jenny’ Davis
SHELBY — Mrs. Virginia Lee “Jenny” Daniel Davis, 70, died Thursday, June 4, 2002, at RoseCrest Retirement Community in Inman, S.C. She grew up in Shelby, lived in Asheville and lived 28 years in Spartanburg, S.C. She retired as an officer for Southern Home Management Inc., member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, graduated from Whitworth Junior College in Brookhaven, Miss., and attended University of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thompson Gaines Sr. and Mary Hull Daniel. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Loula Lee Daniel Guthrie of Orangeburg, S.C.; a brother, Mr. T.G. Daniel Jr., of both Greensboro and Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Davis and Paul W. Coggins of Savannah, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell Cartwright III and Sandy Davis of Fairview; and grandchildren, Tripp and Robbie of Savannah, Ga., and Chad of Asheville. A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. The family received friends Wednesday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Howard Terry
BOSTIC — Mr. Howard Airnell Terry, 72, of 141 Melton Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 24, 1930, in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Warren Cleophus and Brunie Louise Hudson Terry. He retired as a truck driver for Martin Motor Lines. He attended Cherry Mountain Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Perrell Terry; six sons, Ronald E. Terry, David A. Terry and Bill R. Terry, all of Ellenboro, Ricky W. Terry of Mooresboro, Harold D. Terry of Polkville, Larry D. Terry of Boiling Springs; two daughters, Sheila E. Bailey of Bostic and Brenda L. Marlow of Ellenboro; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Lewis Jackson, Tommy Cook and Jerry Hudson officiating. The body will be placed in the funeral home 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Friendly Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cherry Mountain Baptist Church, Bostic, NC 28018.

Roland Leath
SHELBY — Mr. Roland Martin Leath, 90, of 208 Worthington St., died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the ladies parlor. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Shelby or to the Roland and Lois Leath Scholarship Fund at the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University. Cecil M. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Clois Price Patterson, 93, of 352 Patterson Road, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at her home. She was born in Brushy Mountain, Va., daughter of the late William Wesley and Lilie Rinehart Price, widow of the late Yancey W. Patterson. She was also preceded in death by her son, Glenn Patterson. She was a retired textile employee. She is survived by three sons, James Patterson and wife, Margaret, and Billy Patterson and wife, Pernell, all of Kings Mountain, and Mike Patterson and wife, Bonnie, of Bessemer City; five daughters, Betty Grant and husband, John, Sue Bullock and husband, Dean, Jenene Weldon and husband, Travis, and Vickie Moore and husband, W.C., all of Kings Mountain, and Virginia Putnam and the late Odell Putnam, of Gastonia; two brothers, J.C. Price and John Price, both of Lenoir; a sister, Thelma Dellinger of Kings Mountain; 29 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Stroup officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Minnie Wells Morrow, 88, of White Oak Manor, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at White Oak Manor. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamey Billings officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her son, Carl Morrow, 1626 York Road, Kings Mountain. Memorials may be made to Oak View Baptist Church “Parsonage Fund,” 1517 York Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Nancy Arrowood
SHELBY — Mrs. Nancy Keller Arrowood, of 1102 Mark Drive, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Chattanooga, Tenn. Born in Knoxville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Charles William and Mildred G. Keller. She retired in 2001 from Cleveland County Schools as teacher and librarian. She was the organist for Central United Methodist Church for 10 years. Mrs. Arrowood was an accomplished pianist and taught piano, member of Shelby Presbyterian Church, member and past president Cecelia Music Club, member of Junior Charity League, board member of Life Enrichment Center, attended Florida State University and graduated from Gardner-Webb. She is survived by her husband, Eugene S. Arrowood; a son, Charles G. Arrowood and wife, Stacey, of Shelby; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Carroll and husband, Jack, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Laura A. Gibbs and husband, Jeff, of Suwanee, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Jack Carroll III, Laura S. Carroll and Elizabeth M. Gibbs. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home tonight from 7 to 8:30. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Presbyterian Home for Children, 80 Lake Eden Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711; or to Shelby Presbyterian Church, P.O. Raymond Knight
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Raymond N. Knight, 97, of 814 W. Gold St., died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at his home. A native of Runnels County, Texas, he was a son of the late James Pierce and Lela Caroline Nichols Knight. He was a retired construction worker, a member of the U.A.W. for over 50 years and a Methodist . He is survived by two daughters, Mary Jan Ligameri and her husband, Ben, of Mobile, Ala., and Glenda Lightsey and her husband, Noel W., of Kings Mountain; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Swofford officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Gaston Memorial Park. Gary Vegh Jr.
CASAR — Mr. Gary Vegh Jr., 20, of 215 White St., died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 5, 1981, in Hunterdon Co., N.J., he was employed by O’Charlie’s Restaurant in Hickory as a server. He was a member of Easton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his parents, Gary William Sr. and Gwyn Brinkerhoff Vegh of the home; a daughter, Andrea Jordon Vegh of the home; three brothers, Russell Vegh, Craig Vegh and Brad Vegh of the home; two sisters, Shannon Vegh and Megan Vegh of the home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark VanBuren officiating. Burial will be in Casar United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle of Love Church with the Revs. Charles Blackburn and Dean Painter officiating. Burial will be in Wisher Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at White Columns-Blacksburg Funeral Service and at other times at the home.

Frances McNeely
GASTONIA — Mrs. Frances Best McNeely, 80, of Rehabilitation and Health Center, formerly of Gaston Place, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home. A native of Sylva, she was a daughter of the late Farrie Painter and Lizzie Fulbright Painter. She retired from TiCaro and Quick Way Cleaners. She was a member of West Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Taylor Best, in 1970; and her second husband, Forrest McNeely. She is survived by a son, Taylor “Gene” Best Jr. and his wife, Darlene, of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepson and his wife, Don and Genie McNeely of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Grau of Gastonia; a stepdaughter and her husband, Shirley and Darriel Spurling of Indian Trail; a sister, Emma Lou Callaway of Macon, Ga.; five grandchildren, Lee Best, Larry Best, Jeff McNeely, Craig McNeely and Lisa Blanchard; and by six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors with the Rev. Clarence McMahan officiating. Burial will follow the service at 1 p.m. in Oakland Cemetery at Gaffney, S.C. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O.
