Carl Britt
SHELBY — Mr. Carl Britt, 86, of 515 Woodside Drive, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. Born Dec. 23, 1915, in Perquimans County, he was a son of the late James Thomas Britt and Elizabeth Elliott Britt. He retired from C.D. Spangler as an accountant. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Hoey Bible Class. He served in the Navy during World War II. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Evelyn Britt, Julian and Colzie Britt and Alvin and Jeanne Britt, all of Houston; two sisters, Katherine B. Jones and Helene Britt, both of Shelby; and by a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. Interment will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister, Helene Britt, 515 Woodside Drive, Shelby. Margaret Pauline Peeler
SHELBY — Mrs. Margaret Pauline Russ Williams Peeler, 75, of West Zion Church Road, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, she was born May 18, 1927, the daughter of the late Silas and Florence Sisk Russ. She was retired from Pisgah Elmore and formerly employed at Belding Lily. She was a member of Shelby Missionary Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted R. Williams and Mills Alex Peeler; a son, Flay Buren Williams; and two sisters, Kathleen R. Sisk and Rachel Griffin. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Kenneth Walker of Shelby; a granddaughter and her husband, Jackie and Donnie Peeler of Lawndale; a grandson, Bryan Walker of Shelby; two great-grandchildren, Jessie Peeler and Trey Peeler of Lawndale; and a niece, Essie Mae Davis of Shelby. The funeral was Tuesday at Shelby Missionary Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Kniceley officiating. Interment was in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Monday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times will be at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Kenneth Walker of 1217 W. Zion Church Road, Shelby.
‘W.B.’ Wilson Jr.
FOREST CITY — Mr. William Barto “W.B.” Wilson Jr., 70, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Bostic. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

SHELBY — Mrs. Lois Hamrick Alexander, 78, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby. She was a native of Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Aaron Bonner and Encie Jolley Hamrick. She was a registered nurse and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Alexander. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lane and Hope Alexander of Kings Mountain and Aaron and Shirley Alexander of Boiling Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Robert Packard of Laurens, S.C.; a sister, Mabel Padgett of Mooresboro; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Qualls and Larry Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour before the service at the church. EARL — Mrs. Stevie Lee Garland, 51, of 2809 Blacksburg Road, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cleveland County. She was a member of Love Valley Baptist Church and a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Chris Schrader and wife, Jamie, of Grover; a daughter, Jenny Philbeck and husband, the Rev. Barry Philbeck; a brother, George Francis Deagan of Chicago; two sisters, Susie Ramey and husband, Tommy, of Earl and Traci Francis of Earl; and four grandchildren, B.J. Philbeck, Chelsey Philbeck, Katelyn Schrader and Madison Schrader. The funeral will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at Love Valley Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with the Rev. Barry Philbeck officiating. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery in Grover. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5 p.m. before the service at the church. SHELBY — Mr. Jessie “J.V.” Vinson Hamrick, 80, of Cleveland County died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Century Care of Shelby. Born in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William Hamrick and Margaret Cordilla Ramsey Hamrick. He was a self-employed roofer and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and many other awards. He is survived by a brother, Jack Donald Hamrick of New Jersey; and by a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Marvin Gobble officiating. Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Alma Louise Bivins Pritchard, 89, of 117 Garver St., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at White Oak Manor. Born Feb. 3, 1913, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Perk and Nora Cook Bivins. She retired from Cleveland Mills with more than 50 years of service. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Russell Pritchard; a son, Carroll R. Pritchard; three brothers, Cletus, Carl and Veles Bivins; and three sisters, Nettie Earls, Jettie Jones and Maudie Newton. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pritchard of Lawndale; three sisters, Effie Self of Shelby, Macie Brackett of Lawndale and Ethel Costner of Morganton; two grandsons and their wives, Charles and Toni Pritchard of Leesville, La., and Gary and Violet Pritchard of Lawndale; a great-grandson, Fred Pritchard; and also by Beth McCoy, whom she loved as a daughter. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Sue Jane Henderson, 64, of 1003 Princeton Drive, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home. Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Van Buren and Biddie Elizabeth Gladden Barrett, and was the widow of Ambers Henderson. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Claude Van Buren Barrett. She retired as office clerk for Heileg-Myers and was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Terry Dean Henderson and wife, Susan, and Rick Henderson, all of Kings Mountain, and J.R. Henderson of Shelby; a daughter, Debra Ann Sutton and husband, Douglas, of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Charles Steven Barrett of Kings Mountain, Donald Reese Barrett and wife, Elaine, of Charlotte and Phillip Ray Barrett and wife, Becky, of Rock Hill S.C.; two sisters, Golden Elizabeth Waters of Shelby and Rita B. Lawing and husband, Doug, of Kings Mountain; a sister-in-law, Norma Sue Barrett of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Stephen Douglas Sutton and wife, Kassi, Amber Lynn Sutton, Joshua Ross Sutton, Jarryd Henderson, Jena Henderson, Chad Henderson and Jessica Henderson; and two great-grandchildren, Adam Beason and Jordan Sutton.
