Clara McDaniel Baker
(February 17, 1923 - September 23, 2011)

Clara McDaniel Baker, 88, of Miller Avenue, Concord passed away suddenly Friday, September 23, 2011 at Northeast Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born February 17, 1923 in Concord to the late Edward Smoot McDaniel and Viola Lewis McDaniel.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home on Sunday, September 25, 2011, followed by a Celebration of Life in the chapel officiated by Rev. Tom Whidden and nephew Rick McDaniel.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

At other times the family will be meeting at the home.

In the fifties and sixties she worked for Hugh Grey (Kayser Roth Hosiery).

Later she was the Manager of Leader Brothers Department Store.

During her retirement years worked for the Department of Aging and the Veterans Administration.

She was active for many years in Wright G Campbell Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the American Legion Post 51 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a member of First Assembly Worship Center.

Before her health deteriorated she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, being around people and spending time with her family, especially vacations at the beach.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Larry Moose, brothers, George, Ken, Charlie and Frank McDaniel, sisters, Blanche Counterman and Nora Jane Motley, and two Grandchildren.

She is survived by a son Billy Moose, (Shirley) of Concord. Daughters, Linda Cordell, Diane Jamison (Wayne) of Concord and Pat Auten (Larry) of Blacksburg. SC.

She was blessed with 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren.

A special thanks to Cynthia Meadows for her many years of love and care and also to Judy Engelhaupt for her love and care during the past year.

We also thank Dr. Geoffery Rackoff for his care and concern over the years and the ER Doctors at Northeast or their Kindness.

Claudine Russell
(August 6, 1935 - September 25, 2011)

Cleo “Claudine” Honeycutt Russell, 75, of 12471 Prince Rd. Norwood, NC passed way on September 25, 2011 at her home.

She was born on August 6, 1935 to the late Fred and Minnie Hartsell Honeycutt.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Deward Nelson “Fat” Russell; sons Benny Bost and Bobby Russell; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 26th from 6 to 8 at Hartsell Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 27th at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory.

At other times the family will be meeting at the home.

She is survived by: son, Larry “Fox” Russell and wife Julie of Norwood; daughter, Patty Russell Blau and husband Henry of Norwood; brothers, Cecil Honeycutt of Albemarle, Joe Honeycutt of Alabama, Lynn Honeycutt of Mocksville; five grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Douglas Joseph Farrell
(July 3, 1944 - September 20, 2011)

Douglas Joseph Farrell, 67, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte.

Mr. Farrell was born July 3, 1944 in Huntington, New York.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Farrell and his mother, Agnes Snyder Farrell.

He worked on maintenance with FedEx and was of the Catholic faith.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Midland.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Cindy Schaeffer Farrell; sons, John Robinson of Charlotte, Kevin Robinson of Denver, NC, and Sean Farrell of Charlotte; grandchildren, Allison Robinson of New Jersey, Lauren Robinson of Denver, NC, and Michael Farrell of Charlotte; a brother, Edward Farrell of New Jersey; and a sister, Beverly Rich of Virginia.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Farrell family.

Helen Swaringen Whitley
(March 24, 1942 - October 3, 2011)

Helen Virginia Swaringen Whitley, 69, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 in the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC.

Mrs. Whitley was born March 24, 1942 in Stanly County.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Harvey Swaringen, and her mother, Annie Lee Lambert Swaringen.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Sam Wilson.

The burial will follow in the Faith Free Will Baptist Cemetery in New London.

At other times, the family will meet at the home of her daughter Eunice Lamb.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Whitley of Oakboro; her daughter, Eunice Lamb of Oakboro; brothers, John Swaringen of Oakboro and William Swaringen and Lee Swaringen, both of Albemarle; her sister, Janie Mae Whitley of Oakboro; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Lamb and Brandon Lamb.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.

Charles Donald Barnhardt
(September 7, 1954 - September 26, 2011)

Charles D. Barnhardt, Jr., 57, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 26, leaving behind a host of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Talbert Barnhardt, children: Michael (Allison), Elise, Stephen, Leah, and Christian, 4 beloved grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving Charles are his mother Mildred Waller, her husband Bill, and his brother Darryl Barnhardt.

He was predeceased by his brother Mark and father Charles.

Charles appreciated the simple pleasures in life.

His favorite pastimes were casting a fishing rod and cheering the UNC Tarheels or Oakland Raiders.

No one could find a better friend; in fact, many who were not related considered him a brother.

He will be sorely missed by everyone.

A gathering to celebrate Charles’ life will be held in Salisbury at the home of Marlin and Lisa Lassiter Markham.
