Pansy M. Speight
(May 30, 1914 - October 2, 2011)
Pansy M. Speight, age 97 of Albemarle, passed away on October 2, 2011 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 12pm until 2pm.
The funeral service will follow at 2pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Joe Smith.
Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
At other times, the family will be at the home of her son, Tom Speight in Albemarle.
Mrs. Speight was born in Stanly County on May 30, 1914, to the late Charlie and Betty Duke Mills.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, John Alexander Speight; son, John Speight, Jr.; and daughter, Grace Speight Howard.
She is survived by three sons, Tom Speight and wife Lorene of Albemarle, Frank Speight and wife Jeanette of Anderson, SC, Kennneth Speight and wife Marion of Parrish, FL; daughter, Betty Ann Parker of Salisbury; and sister, Pauline Davis of Harrisburg.
Mrs. Speight was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She liked cooking and enjoyed gardening, especially tomatoes.
She was a special woman who will be missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ann Plyler Plattenberger
(January 7, 1940 - March 9, 2010)
Mrs. Ann Plyler Plattenberger, 70, of Wesley Chapel, passed away on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 at home with her family by her side.
Services in celebration of her life will be held 2 PM, Friday, March 12, 2010 from the graveside at Forest Lawn East Cemetery with Reverend Bruce Powell officiating.
Mrs. Plattenberger was born on January 7, 1940 in Union County, daughter to the late Joe W. and Margie Black Plyler.
She had previously worked for Technographics Print World in Monroe before deciding on staying at home to take care of her family.
She especially enjoyed the time spent sitting on the front porch in the swing watching her grandchildren.
Ann enjoyed feeding the finches outside as well.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her beloved husband and best friend of over 52 years, Ralph Plattenberger; sons, Steve Plattenberger and wife Lisa S., Gary Plattenberger and wife Jan S., all of Wesley Chapel; brother, Joe C. Plyler and wife Charlotte, of Indian Trail; sister, Betty Holcomb; brother, Jerry Plyler and wife Joyce; sister, Nancy P. Boatright and husband Danny, all of Wesley Chapel; grandchildren, Scott Plattenberger, of Concord, Ashley P. Edwards and husband Aaron, of Charleston, SC, Bryan Plattenberger, John Plattenberger, Lara Plattenberger and Dan Plattenberger, all of Wesley Chapel and by one great-grandson, Cayden Edwards, of Charleston, SC.

Verna M. Randall
Died: 12-13-2001
Verna Maxwell Randall, 91, of 7104 Southwest St., Falcon, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Randall was the daughter of the late Percy S. and Hattie G. Maxwell. She was the widow of the late W. Hurley Randall. She received her bachelors degree from Atlantic Christian College and did graduate work at East Carolina University and UNC Chapel Hill.
After teaching in local schools for 42 years, she retired in 1972. For six years she was director of an enrichment and tutoring program at Falcon Children’s Home. While engaged in her profession, she was active in the North Carolina Association of Education, Department of Classroom Teachers and Association of Childhood Education International. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers Society and was recorded in Personalities of the South.
Mrs. Randall was a member of Culbreth Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary, Primary Sunday School teacher, Building Fund Treasurer and as president of the Women’s Auxillary for over 25 years. She also taught the Sunday school teachers training programs and served as delegate to two general conventions.
The funeral was held yesterday at Culberth Memorial Pentacostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Stephen Hicks, J. Danny Nelson and Bishop James D. Leggett. Entombment was at Layfayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors are on son, William “Bill” Randall Jr. of Lillington; one daughter, Virginia R. Brigman of Falcon; one brother, Dr. Harold E. Maxwell of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Bertha H. Godwin

Bertha Hinson Godwin, 95, of Golden Years Nursing Home, Falcon, formerly of Dunn, died Friday.
Mrs. Godwin was a native of Sampson County and the daughter of the late William B. and Dora Wilson Hinson and widow of the late Asber C. Godwin. Funeral services will be held at 7 tonight at Skinner Funeral Home by Rev. Phillip Boykin. Burial will be tomorrow morning in the Lee Family Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce G. Raynor of Dunn; two sons, A.C. Godwin Jr. of Rockingham and Felton Godwin of Mt. Airy; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Skinner Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Lee’s Chapel Church, 4948 Plain View Hwy., Dunn, N.C. 28334.

William Earl Bullard, 86, of 183 Bass Road, died Sunday in Pine Lake Nursing Home.

George F. Monds

George Franklin Monds, 57, of Dunn died Saturday, Dec. 15 at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.
Mr. Monds was born Oct. 7, 1945 in Dunn, the son of the late Melvin E. and Annie Mae Reaves Monds and was a retired drywaller. He was proceeded in death by one daughter, Donna Faye Monds and a sister, Linda Colville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cromartie, Miller and Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherrill Pope and Rev. Billy Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethsaida Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Monds are one son and daughter-in-law, Roy A. and Michelle Monds of Dunn; three brothers, Harry Monds of San Diego, Calif., Larry Monds of Dunn and Mike Monds of Benson; and three sisters, Francis A. Jones of Dunn, Margaret M. Jernigan of Benson and Francine M. Norris of Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home and other times at the home of Tina and Tony Torress at 2479 Erwin Chapel Road, Dunn.
