Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Register Zornes

December 31, 2007

Coats, NC: Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Register Zornes age 81 of Coats died Monday at Dunn Rehab. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Burial will follow in the Coats City Cemetery.

Mrs. Zornes was born November 23, 1926 in Sampson County. She was a retired employee with Burlington Industries, and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Fred Hawley and Carl Zornes

Survivors include Daughters & Sons-In-Law, Wanda & Ted Molchan of Coats, Lucinda & Jeff Braun of Virginia Beach, VA., and Becky & Jerry Pope of Lillington; Six Grandchildren, and Four Great Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday, and at other times at the home of Becky & Jerry Pope, 3011 Brickmill Rd., Lillington, NC.

Mrs. Katie Holmes Bellino

December 31, 2007

Benson, NC: Mrs. Katie Holmes Bellino, age 94, died Monday at the Carolina House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Thursday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Patton. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Bellino was born September 19, 1913 in Johnston County to the late James Edward and Mamie Ryals Holmes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Bellino, a daughter, Joann Garland; Grandchildren, Kelly Garland and Kurt Garland; sisters, Mabel Johnson and Vera Julian; and brothers, Ray Holmes, Ed Holmes, Howard Holmes, and Milton Holmes. Mrs. Bellino was a member of Benson United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include Daughter, Teresa Kay Cooper of Southhampton, MA; Son, Phillip James Bellino of North Smithfield, RI; Sisters & Brother-in-Law, Annie Lee Tart and Jean & P. D. Lucas, all of Benson; Brother, Bobby Holmes of Wilson; Grandchildren, Tracy Gordon of Whately, MA and Todd Cooper of Hadley, MA; 5 Great Grandchildren; and Nieces & Nephews.

Family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM Thursday prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Jean & P. D. Lucas, 901 N. Lincoln Street, Benson.

Mr. Oscar Robert McLamb, Jr.

December 29, 2007

Eden, NC: Mr. Oscar Robert McLamb, Jr., age 86, of Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Durham, died Saturday at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. Graveside Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Monday at Benson City Cemetery, Benson, NC.

Mr. McLamb was born August 22, 1921 in Benson, NC, to the late Oscar Robert McLamb, Sr., and Olivia Williams McLamb. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. McLamb was a U. S. Postal Carrier and worked at Muirhead Construction Company in Durham. He was a member of Smith’s Chapel Baptist Church in Durham.

Survivors include Daughter & Son-In-Law, Gloria & Bobby Thompson of Eden; Sons & Daughters-in-Law, Robert Charles & Andrea McLamb of Durham and Philip Andrew & Kay McLamb of Youngsville, NC; Brother, Donald Ward of Durham; 4 Grandchildren; and 4 Great Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM Monday prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC.

Mr. Charles Walton Weaver

December 29, 2007

Angier, NC: Mr. Charles Walton Weaver, age 77, of 2919 NC HWY 55 West died Saturday at his residence. Funeral services will be 6:00PM Monday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be Rev. J.B. Ellis, Rev. David Denton, and Dr. Jim Cochran. A Graveside Service will be 11:00AM Tuesday at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.

Mr. Weaver was born February 28, 1930 in Harnett County to the late John and Ila Adams Weaver. He was preceded in death by Children, Terry Weaver and Sherry Weaver; Brothers, Mac Weaver, J.D. Weaver, and Woodrow Weaver; and a Sister, Jo Ann Tripp. Mr. Weaver had retired from the NC State Department of Transportation. He was also a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.

Surviving include Wife, Alice Faye Weaver; Step-Daughter & Son-In-Law, Joy & Dennis Frost of Woodlawn, VA.; Stepsons, Tony Weaver of Angier, and Rickey Christensen of Coats; Grandsons, Anthony Weaver and Travis Jernigan; Step-Grandchildren, Scott Frost and Shane Frost; Several Great Grandchildren; Special Sister-In-Law, Linda Williams of Louisburg.

The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats immediately following the funeral service Monday night.

Mrs. Ruth Register Phillips Jordan

December 28, 2007

Benson, NC: Mrs. Ruth R. Phillips Jordan, age 85, died Friday at Dunn Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Monday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Billy Keene. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Jordan was born April 3, 1922 in Johnston County to the late George Washington and Geneva Wood Register. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Parlie Phillips and N. J. Jordan; Son, Jerry Phillips; Brother, Wilbert Register; and Sisters, Irene West and Leila Morgan. Mrs. Jordan was a member of Unity Advent Christian Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include Grandson, Gary Allan Phillips of Benson; Sisters, Myrtle R. Lee of Benson, Geneva Lee of Dunn, and Ermalene Brown of Virginia Beach, VA; and Several Nieces and Nephews.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday and other times at the home of Myrtle R. Lee, 308 S. Dunn Street, Benson.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Unity Advent Christian Church, 304 Unity Advent Christian Church, Four Oaks, NC 27524.

Mrs. Doris King Auman

December 27, 2007

Benson, NC: Mrs. Doris King Auman, age 86, of 400 W. Church Street died peacefully Thursday at her home. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Saturday at the Benson United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Patton and Rev. Earl Delaney. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Auman was born August 24, 1921 in Randolph County to the late Carl Edgar and Ella Moore King. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dewitt King. In addition to her years as a homemaker, Mrs. Auman was a teaching assistant with Johnston County Public Schools and owner of a local floral business. She loved her church and community and was recognized by the Benson Chamber of Commerce for her humanitarian efforts. She actively served on the Benson Museum of History Board, the Benson Appearance Committee, Keep Johnston County Beautiful Board and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She supported and served Benson United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years.

Survivors include her Husband of 66 years, Noel James Auman; Daughter & Son-In-Law, Noela Sue and Bill Woodall of Benson; Son & Daughter-In-Law, Steve and Susan Auman of Benson; Grandchildren, Eric Woodall, Clay Woodall, Allison Auman, and Katherine Auman; and Sister-in-Law, Virginia King of Asheboro.

Family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM Saturday prior to the service at the Benson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the Benson United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 72, Benson, NC 27504 or to the Benson Museum of History, P. O. Box 69, Benson, NC 27504.

Mrs. Maxine Smith Benson

December 26, 2007

Benson, NC: Mrs. Maxine Smith Benson, age 81, of Federal Road went home to be with her Lord Wednesday from the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Saturday at Elevation United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Gurganus. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens, Dunn.

Mrs. Benson was born March 28, 1926 in Johnston County to the late Pinkney Thurman and Bertha Hamilton Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Garland Benson, and a granddaughter, Dawn Byrd. Mrs. Benson was a homemaker and a member of Elevation United Methodist Church for 64 years. She supported and served the church in many capacities and was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Organization.

Surviving include Daughter, Judy B. Massengill of Cary; Son & Daughter-In-Law, Gary T. & Linda Wood Benson of Benson; Sister, Shirley S. Joyner of Caswell Beach; Grandchildren & Spouses, Meghan D. Massengill, Brent & Shannon Massengill, David & Christy Massengill, and Sandy M. & Danny Barnes; 6 Great Grandchildren; and many special friends, especially Joyce Sorrell of Benson.

The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM Friday.

Memorials may be made to Elevation United Methodist Church, 5101 Elevation Rd., Benson, NC 27504.

Mr. Garland Leon Whittington

December 25, 2007

Coats, NC: Mr. Garland Leon Whittington, age 95, of 184 S. Railroad St. died Tuesday at Dunn Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Friday at Coats Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Jesse Mooney and Ronnie Byrd. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park.

Mr. Whittington was born October 22, 1912 in Harnett County to the late Joseph Tyson “Jody” and Rena Williams Whittington. The oldest of ten children, Mr. Whittington was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of the Coats Baptist Church.

Survivors include Wife of 74 years, Jewell McLamb Whittington; Daughters & Sons-In-Law, Wanda W. & Bobby Murray of Coats, and Julia W. & Peter Marriott of Angier; Sons, Elwood Leon Whittington and Garland Robert Whittington, both of Coats; Sisters, Agatha McLamb of Coats, Christine Fish of Angier, and Marie Honeycutt of Raleigh; Brothers, Phillip Whittington of Raleigh, Billy Whittington of Coats, and McKinley Whittington of Coats; Granddaughter, Beverly M. Sadler of Fuquay- Varina; and Great Grandson, Matthew L. Sadler of Fuquay-Varina.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Whittington was predeceased by brothers, Stacy Whittington, Fonzer Whittington, and Preston Whittington.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 7:00PM to 9:00PM Thursday.

Mr. Z.B. Byrd Jr.

December 24, 2007

Benson, NC: Mr. Z. B. Byrd, Jr. age 82 of 4903 NC HWY 50 North was welcomed home by Jesus on Christmas Eve, two days before his 83rd birthday. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Thursday at the Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Mark Fields, Jimmy Barnhill, & L.B. Collins. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens.

Mr. Byrd was born December 26, 1924 in Johnston County to the late Zeb Bernice Sr., and Callie B. Byrd. Mr. Byrd was owner of Z. B. Byrd’s Logging Company. He was a 1941 graduate of Benson High School. His love for the Lord was exemplified in his faithful membership of fifty years in the Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church. His desire to reach others for Christ resulted in driving the church van for many years. Mr. Byrd’s passion for Jesus was exemplified through his life long support of Christian ministries and missions.

Survivors include, Wife of 64 years, Marie Stephenson Byrd; Daughter & Son-In-Law, Sandra & Bill Daniels of Benson; Sons & Daughters-In-Law, Charles & Amy Byrd of Benson, Phillip Byrd of the home, Steve & Karen Byrd of Angier, and Rodney & Erica Byrd of Benson; Sister, Sallie B. Wood of Benson; Eleven Grandchildren; Eleven Great Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 407 East Church St., Benson, NC 27504, or the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center, 185 Pine State Ave., Lillington, NC 27546.
