Coats – Elder James Stephenson Denning, 86, of 278 Railroad Street died Saturday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be the Elders F. L. Fish and Virgil Davis. Burial will follow in Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Elder Denning was born October 10, 1921 in Johnston County to the late Willis E. & Bessie Stephenson Denning. He was a retired Funeral Director having served with three local funeral homes; Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Coats Funeral Home and the former Overby Funeral Home of Coats and he was owner of Denning Flower Shop in Coats. Elder Denning was a Veteran of the US Army in World War II, who fought the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Bronze Star Medal recipient. He was a member of Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church and served as Pastor. He also served as Pastor of Clement Primitive Baptist Church, Bethany Primitive Baptist, and Sapony Primitive Baptist Church in Rocky Mount.
Surviving include, Wife of 60 years, Clara Dupree Denning; Daughters & Sons-in-law, Linda & Ron Byrd of Coats, Diane & Larry Barefoot of Dunn; Son & Daughter-in-law, Ron & Joan Denning of Fayetteville; Sister, Lena Sambataro of New Jersey; Brother, Bobby Denning of Atlanta, Ga.; Seven Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren

Mr. James McGee

Angier, NC: Mr. James McGee age 77 of 6390 Zack’s Mill Rd. died Monday at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be the Revs. Larry Myrick, Dorothy Rudd, and Bill Rudd. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
Mr. McGee was born September 27, 1930 in Johnston County to the late Alton and Floy McGee. Mr. McGee was also preceded in death by a Sister, Brenda M. Taylor, and a Brother, Elder Derle McGee. He had retired from the Merita Bread Company as a Salesman after 35 years of service. Mr. McGee also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Banner Post 109. Mr. McGee was a member of McGee United Methodist Church.
Surviving include Wife of 53 years, Joe Ann Eason McGee; Daughter & Son-In-Law, Lisa McGee & Elton Pridgen, Jr. of Four Oaks; Son, Scott McGee and Fiancée, Rhonda Stephenson of McGee’s Crossroads; Grandchildren, Daniel Scott McGee, Hannah Jane McGee, Arron James McGee, Linsey Ann Pridgen, and Elton Pridgen, III.; Sisters, Annie Merle Hodges of Angier, Joyce Southerland of Wilson Mills, Alice Cox of Angier, and Mavis Johnson of Four Oaks; Brothers, Robert S. McGee, Kenneth McGee, and Gene T. McGee all of McGee’s Crossroads.

Garner, NC: Mr. Joseph Edward Batts, II, age 20, of 913 Olive Drive died Wednesday. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00PM Saturday at Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Fields and Rev. Jimmy Barnhill
Mr. Batts was born January 4, 1988 in Wake County to Joseph Edward and Tereca Williford Batts of Garner. He was preceded in death by Maternal Grandfather, Phil Williford and Paternal Grandparents, George & Pauline Batts. Joseph was a member of Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a 2006 graduate of Cape Fear Christian Academy.
Surviving in addition to his parents are, Sister & Brother-in-Law, Nickie & Justin Fye of Dunn; Nephews, Michael Bryson Fye & Joseph Dillon Fye; Maternal Grandmother, Ruth A. Wheeler, and Husband, Charles, of Butner; Several Aunts & Uncles, Special Friends; and Godparents, Jackie & Benny Johnson of Garner and Charles & Brenda Jernigan of Benson.
Family will receive friends at Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church, 407 E. Church Street, Benson, from 3:00PM to 5:00PM Saturday following the service.

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Bessie Munden Massengill, age 93, died Wednesday at the Brian Center in Clayton. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Saturday at Stone’s Creek Advent Christian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Abel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Massengill was born September 3, 1914 in Johnston County to the late William Henry and Stella Sanders Munden. She was a homemaker and a minister’s wife for over 65 years. Mrs. Massengill was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Wade R. Massengill; Daughter, Annie R. Massengill; Son, Charles G. Massengill; and Grandson, Capt. Clifford Massengill.
Surviving include Daughter & Son-In-Law, Nancy M. & Hal Patterson of Margaretville, NY; Son & Daughter-In-Law, W. Bruce & Lois Massengill of Fayetteville; Sisters, Josephine M. Keene of Four Oaks and Kathleen M. Hawley of Fayetteville; 14 Grandchildren; 24 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Raleigh, NC: Mrs. Mamie Jennette Whittington, age 86, died Sunday at Independence Village. Graveside funeral services will be 3:00PM Wednesday at Raleigh Memorial Park. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Harper and Rev. Don Price.
Mrs. Whittington was born July 17, 1921, in Wake County to the late Hubert Bryan and Lucy Wilkerson Jennette. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Ralph E. Whittington; a son, James E. Whittington; and sisters, Marie Russell, Irene Faulkner, and Lucille Weathers. She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Surviving are: Daughter & Son-In-Law, Linda W. & R. H. Cox of Cary; Twin Sister, Mildred Grosse of Enterprise, AL; Grandchildren, Michael Cox of Raleigh, Jennifer Cox of Cary, Jeff Walker of Greenville, Sherry Hagymas of Londonderry, NH, and James E. Whittington, Jr., of Youngsville; and 7 Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2:30PM Wednesday prior to the service.

Benson, NC: Mrs. Doris Jean Allen Poole, age 73, of 8379 Raleigh Road died Sunday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. funeral service will be 11:00AM Wednesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Revs. Billy Cashwell and Aubrey Williamson. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Poole was born September 15, 1934, in Johnston County to the late Paul Curtis and Mary Elgie Clifton Allen. She retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years of service and was the owner and operator of Doris Jean Ceramics. Mrs. Poole was a member of Benson Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are Sons & Daughters-In-Laws, Malcolm R. & Jill Moore and Curtis T. & Gwen Poole, all of Benson; Brother, Levon Allen of Benson; and 5 Grandchildren.

Mr. Timothy E. Hudson

Benson, NC: Mr. Timothy E. Hudson, age 50, of 3906 Woods Crossroads Rd, Benson died Saturday morning at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM Monday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen and Mr. Tony Beasley. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Hudson was born December 9, 1957 in Johnston County to Carolyn Creech Hudson of Benson and the late Lenard Hudson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Annette H. Beasley. Mr. Hudson was a farmer in the sweet potato industry.
Surviving in addition to his mother are, Wife, Kimm F. Hudson of Benson, Son, Brody E. Hudson of the home; Daughter, Brittany K. Hudson of the home; Nephew & Spouse, Brandon and Krista Beasley of Dunn; Great-Nephew, Sawyer Beasley; Mother-In-Law, Billie Jo Faircloth; Brother-In-Law, Tracy Faircloth; Sister-In-Law, Vicki Faircloth; Niece, Ashley Wagner.

Benson, NC: Mr. Tony Drake Miller, age 58, of 9439 NC Hwy 27 West, Benson died Friday at his residence. Graveside services will be 11:00AM Monday at Harnett Devotional Gardens, Dunn. Officiating will be the Revs. Billy Norris and Donnie Barbour.
Mr. Miller was born November 10, 1949, in Harnett County to the late Robert C. & Geraldine Wooten Miller. Mr. Miller was retired from Erwin Mills and attended Red Hill Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are Sons & Daughter-In-Laws: Craig & Torrie Miller of Godwin and Chris & Kristy Miller of Benson; Brother: Wayne Miller of Benson; Grandchildren: Stevi Miller, Austin Miller and Adam Miller; Special Friends, Carolyn Stevens.

Mrs. Pierce was born April 2, 1936 in Johnston County to the late James William and Ruby Davis Caudle. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Bobby Norris and Charles Howard Pierce. Mrs. Pierce was a homemaker and a member of the New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are Sons, James Franklin “Frankie” Norris of Benson, Johnny Ray Norris of Raleigh; Step-Son, Charles David Pierce of Benson; Sister, Mary C. McLamb of Sanford; Brothers, Tony Caudle of Greensboro, Wayne Caudle of Charlotte, Doug Caudle of Greensboro; Grandchildren and Spouses, Wendy and Alan Roberts of Four Oaks, Gabe and Erica Norris of Benson. Great-Grandchildren, Luke Roberts, Landan Roberts, James Cole Norris; and Several Nieces and Nephews.
