Irene Christl Groce

Irene Christl Groce, 87, of Wilson died Tuesday. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. William Holliday will officiate.
The family will receive friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, and other times at her daughter’s home.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda G. Walls and husband, Charles of Wilson; her son, Dennis Groce and Sandra Pearce of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Keith Groce, Brian Groce and wife, Muriel, Chad Groce and wife, Gabrielle, Matthew Walls, and Steven Walls; two great-granddaughters, Annabelle Groce and Madeleine Groce; and her brother, Eugene Christl and wife, Bonnie of Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. A. Groce.
Mary McClaflin Dalton
August 30, 1920 – September 4, 2011
Mary Frances McClaflin Dalton, 91, of Wilson died Sunday. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St Therese Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Gregory Lowchy. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will received friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Marie Hausler and husband Leonard of Montgomery, IL; two sons, Robert John Dalton and David Alan Dalton both of Lucama; a brother, John McClaflin of Centennial, Col.; eight grandchildren and nine great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Dalton.

Betty Eastwood Carpenter
October 27, 1943 – September 3, 2011
Betty Joyce Eastwood Carpenter, 67, of Sharpsburg died Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson conducted by Rev. Chester Rains Burial will follower in the Stantonsburg Town Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at funeral home and at other times at the home.
The family would like to make a special thank you to Community Hospice of Rocky Mount for their loving care.
She is survived by three sons, Vince Carpenter and Greg Carpenter and wife Angela both of Rocky Mount and Jason Carpenter of the home; four grandchildren, Angela, Sierra, Gabriel and Jason; two sisters, Faye Smith of Stantonsburg and Pam Price of Saratoga : two brothers, Carl Eastwood of Wilson and Ray Eastwood of Washington and Chance her beloved pet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maige and Mildred Della Bryant Eastwood and a brother, Bonnie Eastwood.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Community Hospice of Rocky Mount, 3124 Zebulon Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
Garland Giles Batchelor, Jr.
March 16, 1939 – November 14, 2011
Garland Giles Batchelor, Jr., 72, of Wilson died Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mr. Batchelor is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Price Batchelor; three sons, Garland Lee Batchelor of Wilson, David Glenn Batchelor and wife, Regina of Kenly and Jason Sammuel Batchelor of Elm City; three grandchildren, Jordan, Kevin and C.J.; his mother, Maeomie Godwin Batchelor of Wilson; a sister, Dorothy Faye Batchelor of Wilson; a brother, Dennis Talmadge Batchelor and wife, Gail of Mooresville; a niece, Shannon Batchelor Russell and a nephew, Trevor Batchelor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Giles Batchelor Sr.
Erma Jeane Stone Horne
July 21, 1947 – November 11, 2011
Erma Jeane Stone Horne, 64, of Wilson died Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Horne will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Erma passed on Friday, November 11, 2011 in Casper, Wyoming. She had recently moved to be with Heather and her family. Erma was not in any pain at her passing and was at peace with her decision.
Mrs. Horne was born
on July 21, 1947 to Elbert and Esther (Dorr) Stone in Wilson. She was a very dedicated friend and also Avon salesperson. She was married to Jessie E. Horne before his passing on April 16, 1990.
She is survived by her children, daughter, Heather Ramsey (Del); son, Jessie E. Horne Jr.; step-daughter, Sherry Carraway (Billy) a step-sister, Audrey Driver, (Leon) and step-brother, James Joyner; grandchildren, Meagan, Aarron, Daniel, Crystal, and Kayla; two great-grandchildren; she also leaves several friends which were like family to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie E. Horne, Sr.; daughter, Gloria Joyner; parents, Elbert and Esther Stone; her stepmother, Magdelene Stone Joyner.

Mary Hollis Barnes
December 31, 1958 – November 11, 2011
Mary Hollis Barnes, 52, of Raleigh and Lucama died Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. De Wayne Eakes and Marci Rollins-Smart will officiate. Burial will be private in the Newsome Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday and 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
She was an archivist with the NC Department of Archives and History.
Mary is survived by her mother, Esther Barnes of Lucama; two brothers, Jonathan Barnes and wife, Brenda, and Neal Barnes and wife, Nancy, all of Lucama; a nephew, Chris Barnes and wife, Hillary of Lucama; a niece, Rebecca Barnes of Wilson; her uncle, Carey Barnes Sr. and wife, Anne of Weldon; and cousins, Carey Barnes Jr. of Weldon and Claude Barnes of Whitsett.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milton Barnes.
Honoring her request, Mary’s family asks that flowers be omitted.
Jimmy Calvin Brantley

Jimmy Calvin Brantley, 65, of Elm City died Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pastor Robert Winstead and Mike Renfrow will officiate.

Mr. Brantley is survived by his wife, Ann Brantley; two daughters, Patricia Stockey and husband, Peter of Elkmont, Ala., Becky Olson and husband, Bryan of Zebulon; a son, Stephen Brantley and wife, Candice of Winterville; three granddaughters, Emily Brantley, Alivia Gamba and Riley Olson; two grandsons, Nicholas Olson and Jacob Olson; four sisters, Margie Mercer of Wilson, Linda Williams and Betty Oakey both of Elm City and Barbara Hawkins of Wilson and a brother, Mack Brantley of Elm City.
Sybil Hastings Bissett
November 12, 1912 – November 4, 2011
Sybil Hastings Bissett, 98, of Wilson died Friday, November 4, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Born in Allamance county November 12, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Alfred Hastings and Jessie Mebane Hastings.
Mrs. Bissett is survived by a daughter, Tenya Whitfield of Denver, NC; a son, Wyatt Bissett of Rockville, Md. and a brother, Edgar Hastings of Charlotte, N.C. and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Bissett was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Bissett.
