James Howard “Jimmy” Johnson
April 28, 1965 – October 3, 2011
James Howard “Jimmy” Johnson, 46, of Wilson died Monday. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The Rev. Ray Wells and the Rev. Curtis Jones will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at home.
Surviving are his wife, Anastasia K. Johnson; one daughter, Reba Johnson Lomberk and husband, Billy of Wilson; three sons, Christopher Griffin and Jacob Johnson, both of Wilson, and Franklin “Buddy” Johnson and fiancee¢, Ashlee Wall of Rocky Mount; a grandson, James Howard Johnson II; and expected grandson, Stephen Wayne Lomberk; his mother, Daisy Bass Morris of Morehead City; and special cousins, Linda and Donnie Goff of Bethel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Howard Johnson.

Nancy Frost Rouse
January 25, 1949 – October 3, 2011
Nancy Frost Rouse, 62, of Lucama died Monday at Life Care Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Silas Lucas Family Cemetery, Lucama. The Rev. Paul Mitchell and the Rev. Dr. DeWayne Eakes will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Nancy went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 3. She joined her parents, Faustina Barnes Rouse and Allen Welker Rouse, her grandparents, Jack and Georgie Frost Barnes and Naomi Blanche and John Leslie Rouse, and a niece, Jennifer M. Rouse.
Nancy attended Meredith College and graduated from Atlantic Christian College. She had a lifelong love for poetry, was a poet and founding member of the North Carolina Haiku Society, and won the North Carolina Poetry Society Poet Laureate award. Nancy was a dear and loved sister, a devoted aunt, and was a very kind, caring, and generous person.
She is survived by her sisters, Susan Rouse Wright and husband, Garry, Ruth Rouse, and Jackie R. Thorpe and husband, Erick, all of Lucama and Mary G. Hurt and husband, David, of Alpharetta, Ga.; a brother, William Rouse and wife, Charlotte, of Lucama; nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Garry, and Sidney Wright, Kayley and Jacob Thorpe, Haley and Margaret Hurt, and Allen Rouse and Karen Mills, great-niece, Ella Rose Mills. Nancy is also survived by three very special friends, Katie Barnes, Becky Mitchell, and Debbie El Ramey.

Oliver Wendell Dowell
January 18, 1937 – October 3, 2011
Oliver Wendell Dowell, 74, of Sims died Monday. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at New Sandy Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Nicholson will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mr. Dowell is survived by a son, Jeffrey Dowell and wife, Angie of Hollywood, Md.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey and Alyssa Dowell and Ashley Woodburn; a sister, Mary Catterton of Lothian, Md.; a brother, James Dowell of Owings, Md., and his beloved companion of six years, Virginia Ward of Sims.

Lennis Bain Jr.
November 29, 1925 – September 29, 2011
Lennis Bain Jr., 85, of the Brian Center of Clayton, formerly of 411 Hill Street, Wilson died Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2000 Ruann Drive, Wilson. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Vance Harrell will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. at the
church.
He was a retired mechanic with Paul Berry Chevrolet Company. He served his country honorably during the Korean War and was a founding deacon of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Bain is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Beulah Hawley Bain of Clayton, (Brian Center); a son, Joseph Ray “Joe” Bain and wife, Angela of Clayton; eight grandchildren, Matthew Bain and wife, Allie, Andrew Bain, Sarah Bain, Allie Dunekack, Tyler Dunekack, Tanner Bain, John Thorne and wife, Kathy, and Jeffrey Thorne and wife, Kim; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Thorne, Jacob Thorne, Susannah Thorne, Scarlett Thorne, and Jayden Bain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lennis Bain Sr., and Annie Padgett Bain and a daughter, Faith Bain Thorne; two sisters and a brother.

Edward Oscar High
September 25, 1927 – September 27, 2011
Edward Oscar High, 84, of Wilson died Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Joy H. Rowe will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at 4802 St. Georges Drive.
He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. High was owner and operator of Highs, Inc., a family construction business. He graduated from N.C. State School of Engineering, where he was a member of TKE fraternity. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Mr. High is survived by his wife, Janice Knight High; two daughters, Susan Branch (Johnny) of Greenville and Cathy Mount (George) of Wilson; two sons, Eddie High and John High both of Wilson; five grandchildren, Allyson Brann (Jeremy), Jessica Branch, Joseph High, David High, and Mary Lindsay Mount, and a great-grandson, Carter Brann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse E. High and Faye Peacock High and a sister, Glyn Sharp.

Annie Melveline Williamson Thorne
December 10, 1924 – September 25, 2011
Annie Melveline Williamson Thorne, 86, of Wilson died Sunday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Contentnea Cemetery. The Elder Robert Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and at other times at the home of Gilda Barnette 1001 Oxford Circle.
Mrs. Thorne is survived by one sons, Dee Thorne and wife Cindy of Wilson; three daughters, Loretta Blow of Kenly, Gilda Barnette and husband Clarence of Wilson and Bonnie Broughton and husband Jimmy of New Port; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Selby Thorne; a son George Ray Thorne; two sisters, Margie Barnes and Hilda Sauls and a brother, Wallace Williamson.
Gray Taylor
August 16, 1919 – September 21, 2011
Gray Taylor, 92, a life long native of Wilson died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Wilson Medical Center. He was born
August 16, 1919 to the late Charlie James and Frances Finch Taylor. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Growing up in Wilson, Gray was a member of Boy Scout Troop 10 sponsored by First Christian Church, where he was a member. His military service was with the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was retired from Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, after 25 years of service. Before this, he had a career as a carpenter. Gray was a longtime member of Westview Christian Church of Wilson, where he was active as long as his health allowed. In recent years he enjoyed attending church at every opportunity. In November 2010, Gray had the opportunity, through “Flight of Honor”, to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, DC. He was a charter member of Wilson VFW Post 6651.
Mr. Taylor is survived by two sons; Ed Taylor and wife, Judy of Rocky Mount, and Don Taylor of Wilson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Kidd Taylor, a daughter, Claudia Gray Taylor, sisters, Mary Elizabeth Taylor and Frances Taylor Creekmore; brothers, Charlie Perry, James, and twin brother, David.
The family would like to thank Van B. “Chief” Etheridge for his years of devoted friendship to Gray. Also, thanks to friends Marion and Tippy Winstead for taking him to church and Sunday lunch whenever possible.
