Dexton Cook, 82, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, Goldsboro. The Rev. Doug Radford will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Dexton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Earle Capps Cook of the home; his daughters, Donna Lynn Cook Cook and husband, John of Destin, FL and Cathy Ann Cook Olive and husband, Vernon of Clayton and his grandchildren, Katherine E. Olive, Matthew Eli Olive, Camilla M. Cook and Nicholas A. Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Hardy Cook and Mae Bennett O’Neal; his sisters, Willa Thompson and Ruth Catzva and his brothers, Walter Ray Cook and Milton Cook.

Tassie Mae Winstead Kestner
July 11, 1928 – June 27, 2013
Tassie Mae Winstead Kestner, 84, of Bailey passed way Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Thompson Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 5620 Thompson Chapel Church Road, Wilson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Pastor Pam Denton and Pastor Mike Burney will officiate.
The family will receive friends 2 – 2:45 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at Thompson Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Tassie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that she knew. She will be missed and thought of often with memories that will bring joy to their hearts. Tassie was a member of the Thompson Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Tassie is survived by her daughters, Teresa Hendricks and husband, Scott of Bailey and Pat Weaser and husband, Joey of Portsmouth, VA; her sons, Gregory “Greg” Gurganus and wife, Zunia of Virginia Beach, VA and James Gurganus and wife, Freda of Moyock; her seven grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Geneva Glover of Nashville, Margie Boykin of Wilson and Ruby Baker of Suffolk, VA; her brother, Sam “Mickey” Winstead of Wilson and “Bandit” her beloved canine buddy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Kestner and her son, Albert Gurganus.

Dennis Adams Peacock
November 9, 1939 – May 24, 2013
Dennis Adams Peacock, Sr. passed away at home, 1903 Canal Drive, Wilson on Friday night surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013 in Maplewood Cemetery.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Carrie Mercer Peacock; daughters, Joanna Peacock Medlin (Dennis) of Wilson and Hadley Peacock McManus (Duncan) of Raleigh; his son, Dennis Adams Peacock, Jr. (Christy) of Baltimore, MD. His grandchildren, Adams Medlin, McEiver Medlin, Isabelle Peacock and Walker Peacock. Sister, Catherine Peacock Wainwright (Jack) of Lexington, VA and his beloved dog, Coca Cola.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bess Adams Peacock, father, James Williams Peacock and brother, James W. Peacock, Jr.
Family will be at home, 1903 Canal Drive.

Harold M. “Harry” Beaman

Harold M. “Harry” Beaman, 87, of Wilson passed away Sunday.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian S. Beaman; one daughter, Mary Anne Lanier of Garner; two sons, Harold “Hank” Beaman Jr. of Maryville, TN and Keith S. Beaman of Northridge, CA; two granddaughters, Jenny Beaman and Brittany Robinson; three grandsons, Thomas Joyner, Casey Beaman, and Michael T. Beaman; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Davis; and two great-grandsons, Baylor Beaman and Bennett Beaman.

Johnnie is survived by his son, Duane Wells and wife, Nora of Rocky Mount; his daughters, Lori Currie and husband, Reuben of Wilson and Carla Wells of Wilson; his grandchildren, Adam Wells and wife, Malissa of Vilas, NC, Daniel Wells and wife, Amanda of Cave Junction, OR, Brandon Currie and fiancée, Kayla Bradshaw and Tyler Currie both of Wilson; his great-granddaughter, Zoey Wells of Vilas, NC; his step-great-grandson, Caleb Groves of Cave Junction, OR and his brother, Donald Wells and wife, Christine of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Cuddington Wells; his parents, Bennie Wells and Sadie Raynor Wells; his sister, Dorothy Lee and his brothers, Rayford Wells, Mark Wells, Douglas Wells and Benjamin Wells.
Bobby Wright Oakey
June 15, 1947 – May 24, 2013
Bobby Wright Oakey, 65, Lucama passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Hagan will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Doris Oakey of the home; his three sons, Kyle Oakey of Delaware, Thad Oakey of Delaware and Bobby W. Oakey, Jr. of Littleton; his two step-daughters, Barbara Oakey of Lucama and Paula Price of Black Creek; his two step-sons, Allen Price of Elm City and Doug Poythress of Lucama; his nine grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; his four sisters, Joyce Owens and husband, Boyce of Tarboro, Mary Pipkin and husband, Tom of Wilson, Frances Baker of Elm City, Helen Driver of Elm City and Nancy Webb and husband, Phil of Tarboro and his two brothers, James Oakey and wife, Diane of Elm City and Billy Oakey and wife, Betty Lou of Elm City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maggie Oakey and his step-son, Johnny Price.
Michael John Kromis
July 17, 1955 – June 28, 2013
Michael “Johnny” Kromis, 57, of Wendell passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim McFatter will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1:30 – 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. Following the service the family will receive friends at the home of Brenda Lamm Dobbins, 5345 Skyland Loop, Wilson.
“Johnny” was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and a friend to all that knew him. He will be remembered with loving thoughts and smiles that will warm the heart. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy and was retired from the US Post Office for over 30 years.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Caitlin Pope and husband, Michael of Raleigh; his grandson; Ashton Pope of Raleigh; his father, Emanuel “Smokey” Kromis of Gastonia; his sister, Vicky Kromis of Wilson, and his brothers, Fred Kromis and wife, Jill of Charlotte and “Bernie” Peeden of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Doughtie Kromis; his mother, Evelyn “Pootsie” Peeden; his step-father, Bernice Ray Peeden and his cousin, Leslie Dale Dobbins.

Edward Francis Leckliter, 95, of Wilson passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, June 3, 2013 in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722.
The family will receive friends 10 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Pamela Ann Leckliter Fortson of Wilson; his sons, Charles Edward Leckliter of Missouri and William Spencer Leckliter of Maryland; his grandchildren, Tamay McGee, Theresa Jones, Tracy Morris and Amber Leckliter and five great-grandchildren.
