JoAnne Mercer Gallimore
February 5, 1956 – December 13, 2014

JoAnne Mercer Gallimore, 58, of Lexington, NC passed away Saturday. A Celebration Service of her life will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Bailey Baptist Church, Bailey, NC. Interment will follow in the F.W. Stone Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Stone will officiate.

The family will receive friends 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday, immediately preceding the service at the church and other times at home.

JoAnne was a 1974 graduate of Southern Nash Senior High School. She attended A B & F Fashion Institute in Charlotte, receiving a degree in Fashion Merchandising. She also attended Barton College for two years, studying Art Education. She worked in the business industry for several years in the Wilson area and created a well-established career in Real Estate. JoAnne was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother to her “Payty”, who called her “Neanie”. She had a strong faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Eddie Gallimore of the home; one daughter, Meredith Bohannon Mercer of Bailey; one step-son, Brian Gallimore and wife, Ellen, of Winston-Salem; her mother, Jean B. Stone of Bailey; two sisters, Debbie S. Fitzgerald and husband, Pat, of Wake Forest, and Jennifer S. Edwards and husband, Mark, of Bailey; one brother, Ricky Stone of Bailey; two grandchildren, Payton Dunn and Jackson Gallimore; and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her father, T.R. “Pete” Stone.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the Hinkle Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel St., Suite 200, Newton, MA 02458.

Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Frank Mitchell Joyner
November 29, 1940 – July 30, 2015

Frank “Mitch” Mitchell Joyner, 74, of Wilson passed away Thursday. His memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Major Jim McGee and the Rev. Dr. DeWayne Eakes will officiate. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in Hollywood Cemetery, Middlesex.

The family will receive friends 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Mitch was a loving brother and friend to all that knew him. He was a faithful member of the Salvation Army. Mitch loved flowers, music and all pets, especially dogs. He will be greatly missed.

Mitch is survived by his siblings, Dr. Gordon Joyner of Wilson, Gerri Joyner Lamm and husband, Charles of Broadway, Eddie “Buster” Joyner and wife, Sandra of Lucama, and Valerie Joyner Diamond and husband, William of Littleton, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Frank Joyner and Virginia Bashaba Strickland Joyner, and his brother, Garland Ray Joyner.

Flowers are welcome or memorials in Mitch’s honor may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 96, Wilson, NC 27894 or For the Love of Dogs, 5146 Quaker Road, Wilson, NC 27893.

Glenn Ruffin Davis
May 24, 1925 – July 13, 2015

Glenn Ruffin Davis, 90, of Wilson passed away Monday. His funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, 5843 Shiloh Church Road, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Elwood Long will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the residence.

Glenn served his country honorably and faithfully with the U.S. Army during War World II. He served in many positions at Shiloh Church, including Sunday school superintendent, deacon, and secretary/treasurer. Glenn retired with the Federal Department of Agriculture. He later worked with George Hicks Chrysler-Plymouth Motor Company and owned and operated his own used car dealership, Glenn R. Davis and Associates.

Glenn is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Velma Lucas Davis, of the home; his sons, Stanley Davis and wife, Gail, of Wilson, Keith Davis and wife, Susan, of Sims, and Robbie Davis and wife, Cathy, of Bailey; his grandchildren, Shanna Wood and husband, Ricky, Blake Sanders, Jonathan Davis and wife, Allison, Meagan Eldridge and husband, Justin, and Jason Lee and wife, Erin; his great-grandchildren, Kaleb Wood, Silas Wood, Jarrah Wood, Alexi Sanders, Landen Sanders, and Keira London Lee, and his brothers, Hoover Davis and wife, Mildred, of Bailey, and Kenneth Davis and wife, JoAnn, of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ruffin Davis and Bertha Cockrell Davis; his sisters, Mary Lee Davis Peacock and Montie Davis Barnes, and his brothers, Franklin Davis and Selby Davis.

Josephine Evangeline Lamm Beattie
July 27, 1922 – July 9, 2015

Josephine Evangeline Lamm Beattie, 92, passed away peacefully Thursday evening July 9, 2015 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Morris Plains, New Jersey. Her funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Lucama United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main Street, Lucama. The Rev. Joe Stallings will officiate. Interment will be in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut at a later date. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Josephine was born icon in Lucama on July 27, 1922 to Ivey and Louisa Lamm. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Lucama High School in 1937 at the age of fifteen. She then attended Louisburg Junior College from 1938-1939 and Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) from 1940-1941. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree and shortly thereafter, was certified as a teacher of high school French and Social Studies which she taught locally for several years.

In 1943, she was awarded an engineering fellowship to North Carolina State University by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Upon completion of the course, she was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut as an engineering aide. While working at Pratt and Whitney, she met and married Robert L. Beattie, a fellow Pratt employee, and they settled in Middletown, Connecticut in 1956 raising two daughters. As a homemaker, Josephine demonstrated many talents. She especially loved sewing and made many outfits and draperies for the home. In later years, she became interested in needlepoint and spent many hours crafting unique pieces for the home. She also became interested in genealogy and enjoyed researching her family history. She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution and served in many capacities as a member of Connecticut’s Wadsworth Chapter, including Regent from 1992 to 1995. Josephine will be remembered and greatly missed for her sense of humor, her love of family, and her faith.

Josephine is survived by her daughters, Susan Owen and husband, John of Chester, New Jersey and Barbara Beattie of Bowling Green, Kentucky; her four grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Owen and Michael and Erin Haggerty, one great-granddaughter; sisters Sylvia Lamm of Lucama and Wanda Moore of Wilmington, and 11 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Beattie; her brothers, Ivey A. Lamm, Jr. and Frederick A. Lamm, who died as an infant; her sisters, Marjorie Burgess and Louise Radford and beloved niece Mary Katherine Lamm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hope Autism Foundation, 5 Lyons Mall, Box 122 Basking Ridge, New Jersey 07920.

Wanda J. Nyce
August 28, 1958 – July 6, 2015

Wanda J. Nyce, 56, of Wilson passed away Monday. Her memorial service will be conducted 6 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Ronald Dale Nyce of the home; her daughter, Shana Nyce of Wilson; her son, Joshua Nyce of Wilson; her grandson, Ethan Nyce, her parents, Geraldine Adams Weller and Charles Richard Weller, Sr., and her sisters and brothers, Barbara, Charlene, Sherry, Charlie, Jr., David and John.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeremy Nyce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in her honor to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. C.A. Thompson, 1207 Peachtree Road, Wilson, NC 27896.

Wiley Ransom Hill
April 29, 1935 – July 15, 2015

Wiley “W.R.” Ransom Hill, 80, of Lucama passed away Wednesday. His funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Strickland and the Rev. David Kriger will officiate.

The family will receive friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the residence.

W.R. is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, LaVerne Bissette Hill of the home; his daughters, Robin H. Batts and husband, Keith of Elm City and Holly H. Strickland and husband, Steve of Lucama; his granddaughters; Elaini Batts and Rosie Strickland; his grandson, Josh Batts; his sister, Mildred H. Dixon of Raleigh and his brother, Rudolph Hill of Lucama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Hill and Emma Barnes Hill.
