December 20, 1924 – February 17, 2015

Margie Strickland Eatmon, 90, of Wilson passed away Tuesday. Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Friday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Margie is survived by her daughters, Judy Wilson and husband, Jimmy of Wilson and Jean Hopkins and husband, Harry of Rincon, Puerto Rico; granddaughters, Julie Braswell of Louisburg and Beth Browder and husband, Buck of Emerald Isle; grandsons, Ed Tait and wife, Jackie of Wilson and Harry Hopkins, Jr. of Smithfield; step-grandson, Kenneth Wilson of Wilmington and Tim Wilson and wife, Andrea of Zebulon; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashlyn and Addison Tait and Allison and Alex Braswell and Banner Browder; her sister, Susan S. Owens of Macclesfield; step-great-grandchild, Kenleigh; her brother, Alton Strickland and wife, Doris of Fountain; sisters-in-law, Blanche E. Walston of New Bern and Eldie E. Strickland of Zebulon; brother-in-law, Bryce Eatmon and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Eatmon; her parents, Lawton Strickland and Mamie Webb Strickland; sister, Cathryn S. Bridgers and brothers, Billy Strickland and Kenneth Strickland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Webb’s Chapel Church, 2771 Webb’s Chapel Road, Macclesfield, NC 27852 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Margaret Etheridge Peele Hoard
June 18, 1929 – March 1, 2015

Margaret Etheridge Peele Hoard, 86, of Florida passed away Sunday. Her graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Marsh Swamp FWB Church Cemetery, Rock Ridge. The Rev. Ray Wells and Rev. Elwood Long will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the home of R. Louis Etheridge.

Margaret was born icon in Wilson County and she moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida about forty-five years ago.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Ruby E. Wells of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; brother, R. Louis Etheridge and wife, Louise of Wilson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Asker Peele; her parents, Robert Raymond Etheridge and Nora Ethel Pridgen Etheridge; sisters, Dorothy E. Webb, Barbara Ann E. Kelsey, and Ethel E. Peele; her brother, Edward T. Etheridge, and sister-in-law, Ernestine Godwin Etheridge.

Justin P. Taylor
July 29, 1982 – February 15, 2015

Justin P. Taylor, 32, of Kenly passed away Sunday. His funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Holland Family Cemetery, Lucama. The Rev. George Arant will officiate.

The family will receive friends 12 – 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home of his parents, Aubrey and Sandy Taylor.

Justin is survived by his wife, Markie Winstead Taylor and their son, Colton of the home; his parents, Aubrey and Sandy Holland Taylor of Kenly; his brother, Nicholas Taylor of Kenly; maternal grandmother, Lucille Creech Holland and his special niece and nephew, Brayden and Logan Taylor.

Franklin Wesley Owens, Jr.
May 21, 1925 – February 15, 2015

Franklin “Frank” Owens, Jr., 89, of Wilson passed away Sunday, February 15th. His funeral service will be conducted at Joyner’s Funeral Home on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Stantonsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive visitation Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and other times at the home of Marlene and Dennis Bottoms in Wilson.

Frank had a great love for his family, Duke Basketball, NASCAR, sharing toddies and time with friends at White Lake, and spreading his love with food from his garden and grill, especially BBQ chicken.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Marlene O. Bottoms (Dennis) of Surf City, LuEllen O. Manning (Mike) of Elm City, Lisa Rogers of Wilson; his son Frankie Owens of Wilson; granddaughters, Ally Battle (Jess), Dr. Lauren Manning, and Kelsey Rogers; grandsons, Lyn Owens (Erika), Shawn Owens (Laura), and Jason Bottoms (Rachel); eight great-grandchildren; special niece, Vicki Jarratt (Billy), and special nephew, J.F. Peacock (Marie).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Little Owens.

Bruce Perry
January 30, 1935 – February 11, 2015

Bruce Perry, 80, of Sims passed away Wednesday. His funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will following in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Anderson Barnes will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8 p.m. Friday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.

Bruce was a loving husband and father. His favorite hobby was doing woodwork which he would sell at flea markets. Bruce loved to travel and tour the U.S. in his RV. He was retired from Watson Electric. Bruce was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Bruce is survived by his wife of sixty years, Linda Price Perry of the home; his daughters, Trudy Perry Weeks and husband, Terry of Wilson and Vickie Perry Phillips of Sims; his son-in-law, Henry “Thumper” Dixon of Lucama and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Minnie Williams Perry and his brother, Charles Ray Perry.

Barbara Wheeler Hill
October 22, 1930 – February 22, 2015

Barbara Wheeler Hill, 84, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Her memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Dunham will officiate.

The family will receive friends 1:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to her service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Gloria Hill Rice and husband, Charles of Lexington, South Carolina, Deborah Faulconer and husband, Eck of Greensboro, and Barbara Mercer of Wilson; granddaughter, Stephanie R. Jones and husband, Neil; grandsons, Charles Rice II, Lucas James Faulconer and John Hunter Kinney and her great-granddaughters, Emery Jones and Merritt Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Rudolph Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. C.A. Thompson, 1207 Peachtree Road, Wilson, NC 27896.

Elizabeth Proctor Moore
November 27, 1925 – December 14, 2014

Elizabeth Proctor Moore, 89, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Her funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 5 – 7 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of her son, Paul.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, Amanda and Jesse Proctor. She was raised in Town Creek and went to Elm City School. As a young woman she worked on a tobacco farm with her family. As she made her life in Wilson she enjoyed her time working at JC Penny and the Carolina Clinic. She and her late husband, Paul also dedicated many years working the Wilson County Fair. They were involved in the Fair’s planning and implementation of the yearly fall event. They were also active members of West Nash United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth loved her family. She enjoyed many trips with them to the Outer Banks. She savored the memories of being on the North Carolina Coast. Steamed shrimp and clam chowder were a favorite to her. She enjoyed many summer picking blueberries and putting up vegetables. Some of her most memorable times were trips she and her husband took to visit relatives throughout the country and to vacation with her son’s family. In her younger days she enjoyed going to the movies especially musicals. She and her husband also loved going to a Tobs game or eating a hot dog at the Creamery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bryant Moore and her parents. She is survived by her son, Paul B. Moore, Jr. (Emily); her grandchildren, Alexis Abolos (Albert), Brian Moore and Julie MacMillan (Steve); her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Samantha Abolos, Brianna Moore and Madison, James and Mathew MacMillan; her sister, Nina Proctor Teel of Greensboro and Cecile, Ellen, Abigail and Caroline Garcia also hold a special place in their heart.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was dedicated to her friends and her faith. She loved life and all her many blessings. She would sum her life in one little phrase, “that was good to me”.
