Evelyn Webb Snipes
June 1, 1920 – April 14, 2015

Evelyn Webb Snipes, 94, of 1006 Salem St., Wilson, passed away Tuesday. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Wilson. The Rev. Tom Watkins will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Evelyn was born icon June 1, 1920 in the Edgecombe County town of Pinetops, the daughter of the late Grover Herman Webb and Isabel Corbett Webb. She graduated from South Edgecombe High School and Greensboro College. She subsequently taught in the public schools of North Carolina during World War II. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. She served on many committees as well as being an Elder and past president of the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She became an Honorary Life Member of The Presbyterian Women in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Finley Snipes, her parents, a brother, Vernon Howard Webb, and a sister, Marjorie Ruth Webb.

Surviving are her daughter, Evelyn Anne Snipes of Wilson; her son, Robert Finley Snipes, Jr. of Wilson; a grandson, Robert Finley Snipes III of Wilson; a niece, Virginia Clark Webb Watson of Raleigh; cousins, JoAnn Crisp Tetterton of Pine Knoll Shores and Anne Webb Ipock of Pinetops.

The family would like to extend thanks to those who provided care to Evelyn and Finley over these last few years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 3184, Wilson, NC 27895 or the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 112, Pinetops, NC, 27864 or to the charity of one’s choice.

James Edward Fulghum
December 8, 1925 – April 6, 2015

James “Jim” Edward Fulghum, 89, of Wilson passed away Monday. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.

The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of Donald and Abbie Fulghum.

Jim was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School and following graduation he joined the Navy where he served during World War II with honor and pride. He was commissioned as an Officer in June, 1946. After the Navy he worked with the Wilson Daily Times and ACC College before owning his own company, Communications Associates. After twenty-five years he closed his firm and served as President of the Eastern North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, which was successful in acquiring highway improvements before retiring in 1990. Jim was very active in the Wilson Community; he was on the Historic Restoration Fund, a member of the Wilson County Genealogical Society. Jim was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend that lived his life to the fullest and with love. He will be greatly missed and thought of often.

Jim is survived by his sons, Douglas Fulghum of Wilson and Donald Fulghum and wife, Abbie of Wilson; his granddaughters, Arlette Fulghum Rhodes and husband, Jason of Elm City and Sarah Fulghum Young and husband, Brett of Wilson; his grandson, Alex Fulghum of Wilson and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bruce Grice Fulghum and his sister, Ann Fulghum Pope.

James Shelton Joyner
December 7, 1935 – April 24, 2015

James Shelton Joyner, 79, of Wilson passed away Friday. His funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Joe Shakour will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1815 Airport Boulevard West, Wilson and other times at the home.

James was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, former Deacon and Financial Secretary for the church. James was a twenty year Veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served his country with honor and pride. He was a member of the Maiden Voyage to Europe, on the C-9A Nightingale which was a flying hospital. Upon his military retirement, he returned to Wilson to begin his second career for over 25 years as a licensed Funeral Director at Joyner’s Funeral Home. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, where he often portrayed Governor Zebulon Vance at the Confederate Memorial Services. James was a Christian man who lived his life for God; he was loved by all that knew him and will be greatly missed, but remembered with fond memories.

James is survived by his wife, Rita C. Joyner of the home; his daughter, Susie A. Dunn of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; his son, James S. Joyner, Jr. of Wilson; four grandchildren, Morgan Joyner, Christian Joyner, Susan Dunn and Rita Dunn; his sister, Nannie Ree Clark of Wilson and his brother, Lotis Joyner of Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Elbert Joyner and Allie Mae Taylor Joyner; his sister, Agelene J. Poland and his brother, Norris G. Joyner.

Janice Knight High
September 22, 1925 – April 18, 2015

Mary Janice Knight High, 89, of Wilson, formerly of Wilmington passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Walling and the Rev. Johnny Branch will officiate.

The family will receive friends 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the First Christian Church Parlor, 207 Tarboro Street N, Wilson and other times at 4802 St. Georges Drive, Wilson.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Susan Branch and husband, Johnny of Greenville and Cathy Mount and husband, George of Wilson; her sons, Eddie High and John High both of Wilson; her grandchildren, Allyson Brann and husband, Jeremy, Jessica Branch, Joseph High, David High and Mary Lindsay Mount; her great-grandson, Carter Brann and brother, James E. Knight of Wilmington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Oscar High; her parents, Eugene and Maude Knight; her sister, Emily Knight and her brothers, Gene, Alan, John and Harry Knight.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed in Janice’s memory to the First Christian Church, PO Box 2702, Wilson, NC 27894.

Marie Lamm Joyner

April 8, 1936 – April 11, 2015

Marie Lamm Joyner, 79, of Wilson died Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday at First Free Will Baptist Church, 4865 Nash St. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Richard Cuddington and The Rev. Billy Toler will officiate.

The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 – 1:30 prior to the service at the church.

Marie was an active member at First Free Will Baptist Church of Wilson. She was a retired school teacher for Wilson County where she worked for 38 years.

She is survived by her daughter; Jamie J. Owens of Pikeville; sisters Barbara Lamm Lancaster of Pikeville and Jeanette Lamm Baker and husband Joe of Princeton; extended family, Ron Murray and wife Patricia of Wilson, Steve Murray and wife Kim of Knightdale and Mike Murray and wife Lynn of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband James Monroe Joyner.

Mary Elizabeth Walston
January 3, 1930 – April 18, 2015

Mary Elizabeth Walston, 85, of Wilson passed away Saturday. Her funeral service will be conducted 6:30 p.m. Monday at Farmington Heights Church, 910 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. LaVon Phillips will officiate.

The family will receive friends Monday evening following the service at Farmington Heights Church and other times at the home of Connie and Hope Walston.

Mary is survived by her sons, Toney G. Walston and wife, Sandra of Kenly and Connie M. Walston and wife, Hope of Wilson; her grandchildren, Donavan E. Walston and wife, Sarah of Bailey, Ashley L. Walston of Kenly, Tyler A. Walston of Wilson and Amber W. Wilkins and husband, Jeremy of Kenly; great-grandsons, Hayden Walston and Braylen Wilkins and her brother, Robert Craft and wife, Doris of Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hadie C. Walston; her parents and her brothers, Charles, Sam and James “Bud” Craft.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Senior Ministry at Farmington Heights, 910 Raleigh Road Parkway or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27605.

Mary Elizabeth Pittman
December 18, 1982 – April 27, 2015

Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Pittman, 32, of Wilson passed away Monday. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Johnny Sullivan will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.

Beth is survived by her daughter, Emma Grace Nooe of Wilson; her father, George David Pittman of Black Creek; her mother, Mary “Livvie” Gooding and husband, Robert of Wilson; her brother, David Pittman of Black Creek; her sister, Joanna Gooding and husband, Brad of Wilson; her boyfriend, Darrill Fowler of Lumberton; her maternal grandparents, John and Linda Hendren of Lumberton; her paternal grandmother, Annie Belle Pittman of Lumberton; her step-sister, Amy Capps and husband, Jason of Fremont; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Robert Lee Pittman.
