Dorus Blalock
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Dorus “D.B.” Blalock Jr., of 555 Dixon School Road, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was a retired educator and guidance counselor from Kings Mountain High School and was son of the late Dorus Bentley and Annie Lauris Moss Blalock. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and served in the Korean conflict. He is survived by a sister, Annie Lou Talley of Gastonia; and four nieces, Lou Ann Harris, Jean Cloninger, Nancy Robinson and Ginger Hood. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery. INWOOD, N.Y. — Ms. Aravela J. Harris, of 92 Wahl Ave., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in New York. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Henrietta with pastor Dr. L.W. Jackson officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. SHELBY — Mrs. Eula Mae Bowen, 66, of 820 Pleasant Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Hendersonville and was the daughter of the late Claude and Daisy Epperson McDowell. She was retired from Timken Corp., where she worked in quality control. She was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and a former teacher of the Edith Allen Sunday school class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude McDowell Jr. She is survived by her husband, Ted Bowen of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Daryl Hughey of Gaffney, S.C.; a grandson, Nick Hughey; a granddaughter, Morgan Hughey; three brothers, Don and Gene McDowell, both of Gaffney, and Raymond McDowell of Blacksburg, S.C.; and two sisters, Barbara Blackmon and Ellen Bridges, both of Gaffney. A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Sulphur Springs Church Cemetery with the Revs. Bill Towery and Mike Shuford officiating. MIAMI — Mr. Joel Forest Ingle Jr., 72, of 9514 S. West 190th St., formerly of Shelby, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Joel Forest Sr. and Minnie Ford Ingle. He was retired from the Air Force after 20 years and served in Vietnam and Korea. He was also retired from Florida Power and Electric. He was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rochelle Ingle; and a sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Melvin Hamrick. He is survived by his wife, Effie Dedmon Ingle of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Gloria Ingle of Miami; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vonda McCoy and Dale Massie of Miami and Linda and Bill Faith of Hickory; a son and a daughter-in-law, Timmy and Glenda Ingle of Gastonia; eight grandchildren, Sue Anne, Tonia, Keith, Bryan, David, Toni, Timmy and Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roscoe and Bob Ingle of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Laura Ingle of Raleigh; a sister, Nell Bradley of Cleveland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Phil Moore Parker of Prosperity, S.C., and Linda and Bobby Schilling of Lexington, S.C.; a sister, Hazel Wheelus of Shelby; and an aunt, Irene Grigg of Shelby. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Robert Andress officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. KINGS MOUNTAIN — The Rev. Carl Ray Cook Sr., 70, of 122 Williams Road, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Rev. Marvin Bridges and Ida Marie Moore Cook. He was pastor, founder and member of Charity Baptist Church in Fallston, where he served for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Cook of the home; three sons, Carl R. Cook Jr., James E. Cook and Marvin F. Cook, all of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Carolyn K. Allen of Gaffney, S.C.; three brothers, James Cook of Ocean Spring, Miss., Charles P. Cook of Shelby and Floyd Cook of Earl; three granddaughters, Krysti Leigh Terry, Loretta Mull and Tiara Dawn Allen; a grandson, Joseph Cook; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church with the Revs. Herman Simpson and Junior Seawell officiating. BELMONT — Mrs. Irene Hawkins Pearson, 83, formerly of 104 Crestview Drive, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, she is a daughter of the late Robert A. and Gerthie Blanton Hawkins, widow of Jack Pearson. She retired from textiles from Piedmont Processing Company in Belmont. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and W.M.U. at Friendship Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Pearson; a son, Mitchell Pearson; an infant son; five brothers, James, Yates, J.G., Lawrence and Carl Hawkins; and a sister, Olene Pearson. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy Hoyt and Joyce Pearson of Claremont and Joe Dean Pearson of Belmont; four daughters and sons-in-law, Florence and Donald Bridges, Darcus and Robert Rollins, all of Shelby, Stella and Joe Greene of Kings Mountain and Faye and Allen Owenby of Belmont; a sister, Mary Foster of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Born in Marietta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Ernest Duffey Clark and Lula Phillips Clark. She retired as shipping clerk from Belding Lily Company after 32 years. She was a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church and Lily Old Timers Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, T.D. Anthony. GROVER — Mr. Paul Carson “Buck” Biggers, 83, of 2235 Cleveland Ave., died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Minor and Lochie Hamrick Biggers. He retired in 1980 from Fiber Industries and was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War II and enjoyed spending time with his two special grandchildren, friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Lowery Biggers; two sisters, Catherine Biggers Moss and Margaret Biggers; and two brothers-in-law, George Wolfe and Harry Moss. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Kendrick Biggers of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gwen Biggers Cash and Lori Biggers and Gary Hastings, all of Shelby; a grandson, Garrett Hastings; a granddaughter, Laura Megan Hastings; a sister, Mary Louise Wolfe of Patterson Springs and a sister-in-law, Maxine Hoyle Biggers of Kings Mountain.
