Mildred Walston Lamm
June 14, 1924 – October 19, 2014
Mildred Walston “Snake” Lamm, 90, of Lucama passed away Sunday. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Brenda L. Carlyle of Lucama and Patricia O’Neal of Chesapeake, Virginia; her granddaughters, Terri Raper, Michelle Raper and Mary Ann Lamm; her grandson, Jeff Lamm and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Lamm; her sons, Robert Leslie Lamm and Timothy Wayne Lamm; her parents, John and Lula Walston and her sister and brother.
Stanley Hunter Ruffin
May 27, 1954 – October 22, 2014
Stanley Hunter Ruffin, 60, of Elm City passed away Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Stantonsburg Cemetery. The Rev. Tim McFatter will officiate.
The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Stanley is survived by his son, Gregory Hunter Ruffin and wife, Amber of Rocky Mount; his granddaughters, Siddalee and Hailey Ruffin both of Rocky Mount; his grandsons, Tyler and Damien Ruffin both of Rocky Mount; his sisters, Shirley Ricks of Elm City, Teresa Ruffin of Elm City and Maureen Craig of Eden and his brother, Robert Morris Ruffin, Jr. of Elm City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice Irene Ruffin.
Mary Magdalene Casey Amerson
August 14, 1935 – September 30, 2014
Mary Magdalene went to be with Jesus Tuesday morning when her heart of gold finally stopped since a heart attack in 1999. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Amerson Cemetery, Forest Hills Road, Wilson. The Rev. Tommy Hagan will officiate.
The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Mary loved her family and friends and she enjoyed making them laugh. She knew hard work and hard times but it never got her down. Mary never met a stranger and had a kind and loving word for everyone. She was retired from Sampson’s Manufacturing and later she would sit with the elderly and sick at their homes or nursing homes.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Becky Baker and husband, Danny of Elm City; her son, Michael Amerson of Wilson, who has lost a true friend; her granddaughters, Christy Combs, who cared for her in her last days, Hope Mansfield and husband, Jeremy, Melissa Holland; her grandsons, Scott Combs and Rodney Amerson; her great-grandchildren, Chris, Karen, Rachel and Alana and her sister, Clyde Webb of Ayden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry “Mike” Amerson; her son, John “Johnny” Amerson; her parents, Charles Aycock and Maggie Sasser Casey and her brothers, Reverend James Casey and John Casey.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chand and hospice for all their care and support. Thank you to everyone for your prayers and concern.

James Earl Lucas
May 6, 1928 – June 10, 2011
James Earl Lucas, 83, of Lucama died Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Little Rock Original Free Will Baptist Church, Lucama. Interment will follow in the Lucas Family Cemetery, Lucama. The Rev. Dr. De Wayne Eakes will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and at other times will be at 209 Oak St., Lucama.
James Earl was a retired farmer that loved his family and was a friend to all.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma C. Lucas; one son, Stanley Earl Lucas of Lucama; a granddaughter, Megan London and husband, Matt of Wilson; a grandson, Brett Lucas of Lucama; and a sister, Charlotte Price of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose Allison and Cassie Lee Lamm Lucas, three sisters, and two brothers.

Warren Basco Lewis III
October 19, 1972 – June 9, 2011
Warren Basco Lewis III, 38, of Middlesex died Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Nash Senior High School. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. Middlesex. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Curtis Pettit, the Rev. Bob Rose and the Rev. Steve Edmondson.
The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at 10095 North Walnut Street, Middlesex.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Shannon Bailey Lewis; two daughters, Lauren Bailey Lewis and Ashley Nicole Lewis all of the home; his parents, Warren Basco Lewis Jr. and Ann Mitchell Lewis; his grandfather, Warren Basco Lewis Sr. and wife, Louise; an uncle and aunt, Carlton and Debra Lewis and a nephew, Preston Scott Lewis all of Middlesex; uncles and aunts, Bob and Jane Boyette of Wilson; Bernice and Donna Mitchell of Carolina Beach; Dean and Faye Holton of Louisburg, Danny and Sue Miles of Raleigh; aunt, Miriam Mitchell of Smithfield; mother-in-law and father-in-Law, Dennis and Brenda Bailey of Spring Hope; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Christopher and Jessica Bailey, Dennis Wayne and Sandra Bailey all of Wilson; nieces, Emily and McKenna Bailey and family pet boxer, Buster.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry W. Mitchell; his grandmothers, Sudie Belle Mitchell Hamm and Ora Hough Lewis; first cousin, Carlton Bruce Lewis Jr.; his uncle, Kenneth Harvey Mitchell and several other cousins.

Dr. Thomas Joseph Horton
July 3, 1935 – May 19, 2011
Dr. Thomas Joseph Horton, 75, of Wilson died Thursday. Funeral services will be private.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times, at the home of his daughter.
Dr. Horton possessed an ethical character that cannot be surpassed, and he was involved in many activities that further enriched his life. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and he was a chef at heart, spending hours upon hours creating a diversity of foods. His hobbies included flying, woodworking, and metalworking. He was honored to be a member of the Sons f the Confederacy, and even had his own swing band in the good old days. Dr. Horton was a multi-talented and multi-gifted and loved by all.
Dr. Horton is survived by his wife, Barbara Tyndall Horton; a daughter, Alice Horton Wiggins and husband, Hart, of Elm City; a son, Thomas Joseph “Jay” Horton, Jr. and wife, Abi, of Morehead City; three granddaughters, Gretchen Wiggins of Wilson, Alice Cox Horton and Abi Horton both of Morehead City; two grandsons, Zack Wiggins and wife, Amy, and Turner Wiggins, all of Wilson; a great-grandson, Mack Wiggins of Wilson; a brother, James Frederick “Skip” Horton, Jr. and wife, Ruth Ann of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frederick Horton and Gretchen Harper Horton.

Dr. James S. Stanley
February 12, 1956 – May 17, 2011
Dr. James S. Stanley, 55, of Zebulon died Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Pastor Patrick Yelverton will officiate.
The family will receive friends 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home immediately prior to the service.
Dr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Mary Stanley of Zebulon; a daughter, Alana Stanley; a son, Walter Stanley and their mother, Henrietta Pridgen all of Wilson; two step-daughters, Whitney Prindle of Chicago, Ill, and Shauna Foster of Raleigh; a step-son, Kyle Foster of Clayton; his mother, Julia Sosnowski; a sister, Sue Sosnowski; two brothers, Bill Sosnowski & wife, Linda and Bob Sosnowski and wife, Joyce all of Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louie Sosnowski.
