She loved to travel, and among many hobbies, she enjoyed golfing (a pursuit she and Lyle took up later in life), cycling, Mah Jongg, and gardening. Lynn was a pet lover throughout her life, and famously doted on her Pugs and her Chihuahuas.
Before retiring with Lyle to Southport, Lynn lived and worked in numerous areas of the country, including Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Palmdale, Fresno and San Francisco, California, Catskill, New York and Spokane, Washington. Lynn and Lyle met on the island of Guam, where they lived for a short period while Lyle served in the Navy. They later married in Woodstock, New York. She had a long career as a legal secretary for several very successful law firms around the country. In her retirement, she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, and she volunteered her time with several organizations, including the Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue.
Lynn never approached anything with less than 100% dedication, humor, and rare strength and determination. This showed in the loyal devotion she had to her extraordinary marriage, in the love she had for her children, in learning the game of golf, and her battle with cancer. Her friends were life-long. For those who were lucky enough to know her, Lynn was someone to look up to. There was no challenge that she encountered in her lifetime that was great enough to stifle her spirit. Her family, especially her husband Lyle, will miss her dearly.
A funeral Mass and reception will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM.

Eileen Schmucker Sunder
Southport - Eileen Schmucker Sunder
Eileen Schmucker Sunder of Southport passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born
on July 25, 1925 in Jeannette, Pa, daughter of the late George and Harriet Schmucker. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Colonel Charles Henry Sunder and daughter Judy Sunder Shipp.
Eileen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Southport, NC where she was involved with the Ladies’Guild, and worked as an usher. She graduated from Jeannette High School, where she was fondly known as “Link” – as in, the missing link of a chain; even then she was independent and feisty. Throughout her married life, she visited many duty stations with Charles to include: Kentucky, Germany, Kansas, Virginia, Okinawa, West Point, and Southport.
In her community she was involved with the “Pink Ladies” of Dosher Hospital, the 4th of July Celebration, the Ocean Trails Nursing Home, and the King Mackeral Fishing Tournament. As an administrative assistant, she worked for H&R Block, and the government. Eileen was a true mother, and she took that job seriously. Sometimes, with no concern for herself, she made sure her “girls” were happy and well. She wanted them to be good wives and mothers, and she encouraged their career choices and talents while instilling the “I’ll do it my way” focus – always with humility and an endearing smile. As an Army wife she was exemplary – she supported Charles, reached out to other spouses and friends, made the moves easy and positive experiences for the family, planned, scheduled, and accomplished military traditions and down home fun. She considered herself blessed, as were we.
She is survived by three daughters; Charleen Porter and her husband, Dean, of Wilmington, NC, Gail Sunder of Wilmington, NC, Sue Sunder of San Ramon, CA.; and son-in-law, Marshall Shipp, of Sugar Grove, NC. Additional survivors are her grandchildren: Christine Letsen Fealy, and husband Jason, of Mobile, AL, Carl Shipp, and wife, Amanda, of Stem, NC, and Hannah Shipp of Pensacola, FL. Two great-grand children, Jackson Fealy and Sawyer Fealy, two step great-grand children, Isaac Newton and Morgan Newton. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Jean Acklin, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be at 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam& White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport, NC.
A memorial mass will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 14, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.
