Stephen Bisson
St. James - Stephen Bisson, age 66, of St. James passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Bisson was born
February 11, 1947 in Winthrop, Maine, son of the late Lawrance and Eleanor Riley Bisson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife Linda Bisson of St. James; four children, Kim, Amy, Matt, and Scott; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 25, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Saint Peter Mission Endowment Fund.

W. Marvin McKeithan
Bolivia - W. Marvin McKeithan, 70, of Bolivia passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. McKeithan was born
in Southport, North Carolina on December 6, 1942 to the late David P. McKeithan, Jr. and Ora Galloway McKeithan. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Pythagoras Lodge No. 249, Sudan Convertibles, Royal Order of Jesters, and Sudan Temple. Marvin was well-known for his love of the Masons and Shriners. He was the past president of the Brunswick County Shrine Club and past Captain of the Sudan Thunderbolts. He dedicated thousands of hours to his passion for the Shriner’s crippled children and Oxford Orphanage. Marvin was also giving of himself to members of the community. He served on the Brunswick County School Board from 1985-1989 and also served on the nominating committee of Brunswick Electric. Mr. McKeithan retired from Babcock and Wilcox and Jacobi Hardware. There wasn’t a time that anyone called for help that he turned them down. He was also known for his barbecue and barbecue sauce. Thousands of gallons of sauce were made by him.
He is survived by his wife Regina Moore McKeithan; son Edward McKeithan and friend Gary; two daughters Jackie Ward and fiancé Steve and Nicole Mintz; grandson Adrien McKeithan; and sister Janie George.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his residence with Reverend Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at David R. Mercer Cemetery in Bolivia.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Galloway, Wendell Knox, Skeeter Trott, Frank Galloway, Howard Phillips, and Allen Hux. Honorary pallbearers will be Durwood Landreth, Hubert Brittain, John Kopp, Billy Cheers, Al Robinson, and Harvey Bell.

Jacqueline Thompson Gupton
Oak Island - Jacqueline (Jackie) Thompson Gupton, age 67, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
Jackie was born
July 15, 1945 in Martinsville, Indiana and lived in Granville County, NC most of her life. She attended schools in Granville County and Pamlico County and was employed by Northern Telecom, Inc. in Creedmoor until her retirement. She was of Baptist faith and baptized at the First Baptist Church of Butner, NC. She also loved working with her hands in crafts such as sewing and cross stitch. She was a quiet person who loved being at home. She loved animals and cared religiously for a Doberman Pincher and a Yorkshire Terrier. Her two children Chris and Holly were the love of her life. Gone before her was her mother Alma V. Thompson and her father John W. Thompson.
She is survived by her husband David Gupton of 48 years of Oak Island, NC; one son Chris Gupton of Oak Island, NC; one daughter Holly Gupton of Baltimore, MD; grandson Asa Christopher Gupton; granddaughter Ava Noelle Gupton; daughter-in-law Stephanie Bossert Gupton, all of Oak Island, NC. She is also survived by two sisters, Johnnie T. Whitfield of Hester, NC and Janice T. Belangia of Arapahoe, NC; two brothers John W. Thompson, Jr. of Butner, NC and Joseph Thompson of Durham, NC.
Jackie will be remembered with a graveside service and inurnment at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC on July 5, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Also there will be a celebration of life service at Oak Island Presbyterian Church in Oak Island on July 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm.
Flowers may be sent to Carolina Memorial Gardens and Oak Island Presbyterian Church.

David Hutchins Harward — Boiling Spring Lakes
David Hutchins Harward, 78 of Boiling Spring Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick. He was born
March 4, 1935 in Durham County the son of the late Fernie David and Ruth Anon Harward.
Mr. Harward was a retired from Burroughs – Wellcome in Durham. He had also worked as a homebuilder in the Durham area. Mr. Harward volunteered in the US Army as an MP and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He loved watching and playing bluegrass music, and riding dirt bikes with his nephews at the Low Grounds of Durham County. He was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Harward.
Surviving are three nephews, Aaron Harward of Boiling Spring Lakes, Matthew Harward of Florida, and Ira Harward of Oak Island; a niece Amanda Harward of Ash; and great nephews and nieces, Taylor and Colby Harward, and Christin and Heath Harward.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Michael Dean Benton
Winnabow - Mr. Michael Dean Benton age 67 of Winnabow died Sunday June 23, 2013 at Wilmington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Benton was born
in Brunswick County on February 4, 1946 and was the son of the late Marcella and Addie Cumbee Benton. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
He is survived by two children, Christopher Benton and Tracy Hickman of Wilmington; three brothers, Conrad Benton of Winnabow, Reverend Martin Linwood Benton of Delco, Reverend Kenneth Benton of Middlesex; three sisters, Nettie Jane Taylor of Warner Robbins, Ga., Marjorie Wolfe of Winnabow, Cheryl Hollis of Hampstead and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday June 29, 2013 at 11am at New Hope Presbyterian Church officiated by his brothers, Reverend Martin Linwood Benton and Reverend Kenneth Benton.

Mary Lee Benson
Wilmington - Mary Lee Benson, 95 of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Benson was born
March 4, 1918 in Brunswick County to the late Joseph and Lizzie Robbinson Peadrick.
Mrs. Benson was a member of United Advent Christian Church in Wilmington. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafting, cooking, her flowers and garden, but most of all she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Hugh Benson.
Surviving is one son Kenneth Harvey Benson and wife Rosie of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters Patricia Louise Smith of Wilmington, and Brenda Harrington and husband Wayne of Sanford; five grandchildren, Paula Marie Bretz and husband Brian of Jacksonville, Florida, Thomas Benson and wife Debbie of Kelly, Chris Stevens and fiancée Johnny Padgett of Willard, Rusty Beckwith of Wilmington, and Terri Whitaker of Panama City, Florida, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a sister-in-law Gladys Hewett of Wilmington, and many dear and special friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in the United Advent Christian Church in Wilmington with Reverend Sam Worley and Reverend Billy Crabtree officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Community Home Care and Hospice and the many dear friends that helped and gave excellent care to Mrs. Benson during her illness.

Joseph “Jo Jo” Fullwood
Southport - Mr. Joseph “Jo Jo” Fullwood age 68 of Southport died Saturday June 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Fullwood was born
in Southport, NC on May 16, 1945 and was the son of the late Lewis and Josie Varnam Fullwood. He was dearly loved throughout the Southport Community and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by two brothers, Marvin Fullwood and Leon Fullwood both of Southport; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Oeschger of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 19, 2013 at 1pm in the chapel of Peacock-Newnam & White funeral service with Reverend Fred Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park.
Members of the Southport Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
