Maureen Agatha Sraver
Boiling Spring Lakes - Maureen Agatha Sraver, age 85, of Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Sraver was born
February 5, 1929, daughter of the late Carl Frederick and Coletta Hoffman Northart. She worked off and on as a shipping clerk for Montgomery Ward for 35 years with time off to raise her daughter. In addition, she spent a brief time making camouflage nets during WWII. She also worked for Nabisco Company packing cookies, and Polan Katz Umbrella Factory. Mrs. Sraver was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church until sickness prohibited her from the activities she enjoyed.
Survivors include her husband William Sraver, Jr.; daughter, Linda Sandgren and husband Eric; grandchildren, Rick Gordon and wife Jenny, Cheryl Spiller and husband Rod, and Brian Sandgren and wife Italy; great grandchildren, Cadi Gordon and Billy Gordon; brother, Ralph Northart, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11am Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4348 Southport-Supply Road, Southport.

Jean England Heinel
Little River - Jean England Heinel, 86, died peacefully on September 2 with her daughter and son-in-law by her side in Little River, SC. She bravely fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease but now rests in the arms of angels.
Jean was born
on March 28, 1928 to parents Eugene and Louise England in Zion, Maryland. Jean’s greatest passion was her love of nursing. She was proud and honored to have been a member of the last class of Nursing Cadets at Delaware Hospital, and would have served as a military RN in World War II, but the war ended before her graduation from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. Jean epitomized the true spirit of nursing and was a beloved mother to her daughter and grand children.
Jean worked as an RN in Delaware, Georgia, Virginia, and South Carolina hospitals. She left Spartanburg General Hospital to work for the Charles Lea Center where for 20 years she directed the Hearing Conservation program for Spartanburg County Schools.
After retiring in 1993, Jean enjoyed walking with friends, reading books, analyzing politics, and visiting family. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her sister Sara. Her home was Spartanburg for over thirty years before moving to Southport, NC to be near her daughter. In 2009 she moved into Summit Place Assisted Living where she thrived making friends and participating in activities.
Jean is predeceased by her parents, sisters Sara England Grubb and Mary Louise England, sister-in- law Doris England as well as former spouse Arthur G. Heinel.
Survivors include daughter Linda Heinel Guerrina and son-in-law Frederick (Flick) of Southport, NC; a brother Thomas Howard England of Zion, Maryland; grandchildren A. Brett Knight of Portland, Oregon and Lauren Clark Knight of Studio City, California. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank-you to the staff of Summit Place for the love and care they showed Jean and a special thank-you to Heartland Hospice. A graveside service in Maryland is planned for early October. If you care to honor Jean, please consider the Alzheimer’s Association.

Edith Schmidt Stead
Southport - Edith Schmidt Stead passed away on September 2, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son in law, Pam and David Morgan, Jr. in Southport North Carolina.
She was born
and raised in Taunton, Massachusetts, she and her husband of 55 years, Roy Stead, resided in Sanford, North Carolina and then later Salisbury, Maryland. After Roy’s passing in 1999, Edith lived in Canal Woods and enjoyed watching the geese play on the lake behind her condo. Since 2007, she was living in Southport, North Carolina at the home of her daughter and Pam and her husband David Jr.
Nanny, as she was lovingly known, is survived by her daughter Pamela, son-in-law David F. Morgan, Jr.; two grandchildren, David F. Morgan, III and Sarah Maciarello; five great grandchildren, Brodie and Kiele Morgan, Kaitlin Guerra, and Jonathon and Luke Maciarello; and one great great grandchild, Jeremiah Marshall.

Ruth H. Cortesi
Southport - Ruth H. Cortesi, 93 of Southport, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mrs. Cortesi was born
December 14, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, New York the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Schilio. She was active in and loved the Oak Island Senior Center. Mrs. Cortesi was preceded in death by her husband George Cortesi, five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her son George Cortesi, Jr.; a daughter Ann Rigano all of Southport, a sister Lena Low of Wilmington; a granddaughter Lisa Adornato and husband Greg of Savannah, Georgia; three great-grandchildren Paul Adornato, Caitlin Adornato, and Nicholas Adornato; a niece Diane Schwartz and husband Robert of Southport; and a nephew, David Low and wife Ellen of Wilmington.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the Peacock – Newnam & White funeral service Chapel with Father Doug Lawson officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.

Joan Ola Edwards Loggains
Oak Island - Joan Ola Edwards Loggains of Oak Island died Thursday, September 11, 2014.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Ray Loggains; sons Artie, Craig and Thad Loggains and their families which include 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and by her brother Lee Edwards and his family.
A memorial service will be held at Beach Road Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Roger Albert Ackerly
Boiling Spring Lakes - Roger Albert Ackerly, age 61, of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Ackerly was born
October 5, 1952, son of Albert Ackerly and the late Dorothy Goldfuss Ackerly. He moved to Boiling Spring Lakes after retiring from New York. Mr. Ackerly was a member of VFW Post 10400 in Boiling Spring Lakes.
Survivors in addition to his father include his wife Cathy Burton of the home; and one brother Keith Ackerly of Thornwood, New York.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the VFW Post 10400 in Boiling Spring Lakes.
