ZEBULON – Sue Gainey Dean, 64, a loving mother and grandmother died Thursday. She retired in 1988 from the Department of Motor Vehicles and owned and operated the Biscuit Station Restaurant, 100 North Person Street, Raleigh for the last 19 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Harold Dean and her parents, Mildred and Ray Gainey. funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh. The burial will follow at Mt. Herman Christian Church Cemetery, Garner. Surviving: daughters, Lori Dean Hopkins and her husband, Brandon of Zebulon and Leigh Dean Grice and her husband, Jody of Garner; brother, James Gainey of Zebulon; grandchildren, Whitney Hopkins, Kayleigh Grice and Cameron Dean Hopkins; mother-in-law, Elva Dean of Garner; brothers and sisters in law, Horace Dean, Donald and Kay Dean, Brenda and Rayvon Langdon, Dwayne Dean and Leona Walker; numerous nephews and nieces; special friend, Blanche Mitchell of Raleigh and her Biscuit Station Family, Wanda Jackson, Becky Jackson, Doretha Crews, Lawrence and Brenda Henderson and Sam Hill. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh and at other times at the home of Lori and Brandon Hopkins, 8917 Fowler Road, Zebulon. Coyte C. Lanier, Jr.

Belhaven, NC– Coyte Campbell Lanier, Jr., 47, formerly of Garner, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wake County, he was the son of Coyte and Gladys Dees Lanier. Coyte was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nature and wildlife. Family was very important to Coyte. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Diane Smith Lanier; daughter, Courtney Dees Lanier and husband, Donald Schuler of Fuquay-Varina and step-daughter, Crystal Odom of Greensboro; sons, Daniel Lanier and wife, Susan of Willow Spring and Derek Lanier and wife, Valerie Bates of Angier; sister, Lisa Lanier Powell and husband, Jon of Coats and grandchildren, Nathaniel Lanier, Summer Lanier, Christian Lanier, Jadyn Cline and Landon Lanier. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. ANNISTON, AL – Margie M. Davis, 82, a former resident of Garner, died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Davis was a native of Anniston, AL, and a past resident of Garner, for the past 63 years. She was retired from First Citizens Bank and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Garner. She was known as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. A graveside service will be held 12:30 PM Saturday at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Survivors include her sons, Wade Davis and his wife, Rosemary, of Willow Spring; Wayne Davis and his wife, Karen, of Clayton; daughter, Wanda DeCamp, of Atlanta, GA; brother, Bo Bedford and his wife, Sue, of Oxford, AL; sisters, Dorothy Bentley, of Anniston, AL; Diane Wilkerson and her husband, John, of Oxford, AL; Priscilla Studdard and her husband, Fred; grandchildren, Kelly Davis, Jody Balance, Daina DeCamp King and Ashley Davis; great-grandchildren, Carson Balance and twins, Ava and Emma King, and a host of special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12 noon on Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Lella Mae Bedford; husband, Hugh Tom Davis; son, Warren Davis, who was killed in the Vietnam War; brothers, Danny Bedford and Clark Bedford.

BENSON – Romie T. Eason, 68, of 680 McGee Rd. died Wednesday. A native of Johnston County he was the son of the late Romless Tee and Lyda McCabe Eason. He was a retired Navy Petty Officer First Class, and a retired assistant Director of NC Division of Veterans Affairs. Serving in the Vietnam War he was awarded the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from Gov. Jim Hunt, the highest civilian award given by the state. A member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Four Oaks, he was a member of the American Legion Post 109 and a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial will follow in the McGee Family Cemetery. Surviving: wife, Barbara McGee Eason, sons, Romie Taylor Eason of Richmond, VA; Rodney Todd Eason and wife, Carrie of Pennsylvania; step-daughter, Tanya P. Betts and husband, Scott of Benson; step-son, Brian Glenn Parrish and wife, Kim of Garner; sisters, Joann McGee, Betty Aiken and husband, Hunter, all of Angier; Raynell Pearsall and husband, Ray of Garner; brother, Dennis Eason and wife, Brenda of Benson; sister-in-law, Brenda Eason of Clayton and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Richard "Dick" Gregg Singer

Richard "Dick" Gregg Singer passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2010. He was born icon on January 1, 1943 to Dr. and Mrs. C. Gregg Singer, both of whom preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Oberlin Road in Raleigh at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 2nd. A gathering of family and friends will be held after the service in the Jane Bell Gathering Space at the church. Dick attended public schools in both Mississippi and North Carolina, and received his undergraduate degree as well as his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following law school, he clerked for Judge Earl Vaughn of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He began his own practice in 1968 with the law firm of Terry Sanford, and he remained a close friend of Governor Sanford until the Governor's death. Dick was active in Governor Sanford's campaigning for his run for the Presidency. Dick was known throughout the North Carolina legal community as an old school lawyer. His word was his bond and he valued his principles above gain. Dick married Mary Ann Brown of Lexington, and they enjoyed 45 years of love, friendship and mutual respect. He was not demonstrative with his emotions but his deep love for Mary Ann, his daughters and grandchildren was apparent to all. He was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, an active member of the Carolina Country Club and its 19th Hole Gin Rummy Club, and an enthusiastic golfer both with his friends and his wife. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Laura Singer Park and husband Roy Hampton Park III of Charlotte and their children, Elizabeth Sumner, Roy "Hampton" IV, Lawson Brooks, and Cameron Parham; and his daughter Anna Elizabeth Singer and her daughter, Elizabeth "Ella" Adams; sister Mrs. Terri S. Speicher of Dallas; sister Jean (Mr. And Mrs. Jerry L. Satterwhite) of Birmingham, AL; and brother Bob (Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Singer) of Oak Ridge, NC. Amelia Mettrey Wehbie Salem

Amelia Mettrey Wehbie Salem of Raleigh, passed away on Thursday February 5th at the age of 91, peacefully at her home. Amelia was born icon to Mike and Mary Mettrey Wehbie on January 6, 1918 in Elizabeth City, NC. She is survived by her loving, ever devoted husband of 66 years, Joseph R. Salem, four loving children, Jay Salem and wife Maija of Dallas Texas, Michael Ray Salem of Raleigh, Donna Salem Naeser and husband Scott of Raleigh, and Ronald Salem of Raleigh, two grandchildren, Alex Salem of Denver CO, Annie Salem of Dallas Texas, and one great-grandson Austin Salem of Denver, CO. Amelia was born icon to a family of nine children and is survived by two sisters, Nell Kahdy of Chapel Hill and Margaret Saloom of Enterprise, AL. She is predeceased by her parents, four brothers, Sam M. Wehbie, William Mettrey, Chris Wehbie, Wehbie M. Wehbie, all formerly of Raleigh and two sisters, Helen Wehbie of Raleigh and Marie Mossberg of Austin Texas. Amelia is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces from both her side of the family and her husbands, as well as close in-laws. Amelia spent almost her entire life in Raleigh except for the early years of her marriage in Arlington, VA and 15 years in New Bern, NC. She was a graduate of Hugh Morson High School and Hardbarger’s Business College in Raleigh. During her life she worked at Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern, the N.C Department of Agriculture and N.C. Department of Revenue in Raleigh. During World War II she and her husband Joseph lived in Arlington, Virginia where she worked for the American Red Cross, while Joseph was stationed at Arlington Hall with Army Intelligence. Amelia was a wonderful, loving and devoted mother and wife, and words cannot express how much we will miss her. Amelia never stopped fighting to live thru numerous serious battles with health over the last 40 years of her life. With her strong will, love of life and family and determination she always beat the odds. Cooking, church, propagating camellias, roses and Japanese Maples, and also a loyal fan of NCSU football and basketball were her favorite hobbies and past times. A special thanks to Hospice including Denise, Susan, Lee and her wonderful nurse attendant at home Sandra. Also a warm hearted thank you to other wonderful nurses who cared for her, Elisa, Rosalee and Alison. Also our special family friend, Rick Broom with whom Amelia cared for deeply. God Bless you all. Visitation will be Monday February 9th from 7 – 9 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Road in Raleigh, 27613. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday, February 10th at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park at 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh 27612. She is survived by her husband, Derek Rose; daughter, Zoe; mother, Jennifer Huckaby and husband, Thomas of LA; sister Alisha Valin of Kansas City; brothers, William Valin ll, Daniel Valin and wife, Jessica all of Louisburg and Matthew Huckaby of Belton, SC, mother and father-in-law, Vicki and Ralph Rose of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death her grandfather, Charles Veillon.

C.D. ( Dick ) Barnes, 80, of Raleigh died Thursday morning at the Heritage of Raleigh surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born icon in Lucama and was a long time resident of both Wilson and Wake Counties. He was the son of the late George Warren Barnes and Georgie Campbell Barnes. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Raleigh and Raleigh Country Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Romaine Lamm Barnes in 2005 and his older brother, Bennett Campbell Barnes. Dick is survived by his three children, sons, Warren Barnes and wife Elaine of Germantown, TN and William “Bill “ Barnes and wife Cynthia of Carmel, IN; and daughter, Anne Barnes Sherron and husband, Jerry of Raleigh. Also surviving are his six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Poochie III. A visitation will be held Friday from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the Heritage of Raleigh -Independent Living, 1200 Carlos Dr. Raleigh. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12noon at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, NC. Thomas Bennett Horne

GARNER– Thomas Bennett Horne, 78, died peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Rex Hospital after a critical illness, surrounded by close family members and friends. Born, November 1, 1930 in Harnett County, he was the youngest son of the late Harvey Eustace and Retta Bullock Horne. He was preceded in death by an infant son, George W. Horne, and by his brother, Paul E. Horne. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth A. Harmon and husband, Kurt, son, Robert A. Horne, brother, Harvey M. Horne, grandson, Justin Harmon all Raleigh; former wife, Marie C. Horne of Garner; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Garner Advent Christian Church. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Thom was an ordained Advent Christian Minister and served churches in North and South Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky as a young man. He earned an undergraduate degree from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky and a Master of Social Work Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Upon completion of the latter, he became a professional social worker, serving in county welfare Social Service departments in Nashville, Rocky Mount, Morganton, and Monroe, NC. Over the years, he was Director of Social Services in Union County, Murdoch Center in Butner and Walter B. Jones Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center in Greenville. During his last few years of work, he worked with the N. C. Division of Facilities Services, surveying Nursing Homes, hospitals and other institutions. Thom was an open-minded, upbeat individual with many interest including theological issues, history, and current events. He especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes at Garner Advent Christian Church where he was a member and former Deacon and also served as Chaplain for the Men’s Fellowship Group. He was an active member of Triangle Singles, enjoyed serving as DJ for many of their social events and also produced the Club’s monthly newsletter. He loved his children and was active in their lives. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 505 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27605 earmarked for Creative Living or Sandlewood Home. Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
