Emma Doris Murchison

Emma Doris Murchison, age 68, of 1564 Lancaster Road, Pikeville, died Monday at her home. Born in Lenoir Co., she was the daughter of the Katie Mae Sutton of LaGrange and the late Elonzo Lewis.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 pm in Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Ken Jefferson, Jr. officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening from 7-9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Emma Mae Murchison, 672 Watery Branch Church Road, Stantonsburg.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters, Mary Johnson of Goldsboro, Katie Lopez of Pikeville and Emma Mae Murchison of Stantonsburg; four sons, Anthony Arthur of NC, Cedrick Johnson, David Robinson & Leroy Murchison, all of Goldsboro; fourteen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles & cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Dominick Arthur.

Joseph “Joe” Jerome Powers
September 30, 1985 - November 11, 2015
Joseph Jerome Powers, 30, died Wednesday at his home in Newnan, Ga. Born in San Antonio, TX, he was the son of Jerome and Brenda Powers of Goldsboro. He was a 2004 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School. A veteran of the United States Army, he served two years in the Army Reserves. Prior to his illness, he attended The Lord’s Table and was a student with Devry University, studying medical coding.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the committal service at the cemetery. The family will receive guests at their home in Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Joshua “Josh” Powers of Goldsboro; his sister, Nanette “Nan” Powers Hawkins of Goldsboro; his grandmother, Delores Montgomery of Goldsboro; two nieces, Madison & Nevaeh McLaughlin.

Ann J. Trexler
May 29, 1941 - November 11, 2015
Ann Johnson Trexler, age 74, died suddenly on Wednesday. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Grover Johnson and Ora Garner Johnson and the wife of the late Gordon “Bud” Trexler. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Grover Ed “Brother” Johnson and sister, Margie Lee Kornegay. Ann was a member of Brogden United Methodist Church and was the retired owner of George Street Grill.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andy Stoval and Pastor Jimmy Bryant officiating. Family members will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A committal service will be held Friday at 10:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park.
Ann is survived by her sisters, Leora (Dave) Bizzell of Garner, Jean (Jimmy) Bryant of Kenly, Betty (Larry) Rhodes of Goldsboro; her special companion, Wayne Blizzard; two granddaughters, Tanya Jo Cokor and Dana Langston; six great grandchildren; six nieces and five nephews and countless great nieces and nephews.
In addition to flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Foundation or the Brogden United Methodist Church Building Fund.

James S. Hatcher
May 30, 1945 - November 10, 2015
James Stuart Hatcher of Pikeville passed away on Tuesday at his residence. He was the son of the late Jackson and Daisy Hatcher and the husband of the late Annie Margie Ferrell. He was a United States Air Force veteran and a life time member of the VFW and DAV.
No formal services will be held.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Neal Sexton and wife, Emma of Goldsboro; a daughter, Sherry Bordeaux and husband, Danny of Grantham; a son in law, Ernie Head of Goldsboro; a brother, Joseph Donald Hatcher of Chester, VA; Elizabeth Feder of Chester, VA; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
A daughter, Carla Head preceded him in death.

Elizabeth "Betty" Farah
March 05, 1932 - November 20, 2015
Elizabeth “Betty” Farah age 83 died Friday evening at Wilmed Nursing Facility in Wilson. Born in Wayne County she was the daughter of the late Frank Hollowell and Hazel Hollowell Daniels.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor James Koo and Pastor Daniel Mullens officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service at the cemetery.
Betty had retired as an accountant with Nash Printing Company.
Betty is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Freda and Kim Davis of Fremont and Kathy and Jim Daniels of Goldsboro, two sisters; Frances Fields of Goldsboro and Molly Howell of Wilmington, three grandchildren; Jeremiah Daniels and wife Kate, Farah Davis and Abbi Davis and her fiancé` Daniel Mullens, and two great-grandchildren Grace and James Daniels.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army Kettle Drive, 610 North William Street, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530. Betty wanted all children to have gifts at Christmas.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Betty’s loving caregivers and the staff of Wilmed Nursing Facility.

Kenneth Joe Herring, age 67, died Thursday morning at his home. Born in Duplin County he was the son of the late James Henry and Ellen Harper Herring.
A memorial service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Church of God of Prophecy with the family receiving friends afterward in the fellowship hall. Pastor Thomas Moore will officiate.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Kenneth had retired as a salesman with Fasteners Supply of Goldsboro.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in law; Kathryn H. and Timothy Colmore of Winterville, N.C., a son and daughter-in-law; Kenneth Dale and Kimberly Herring of Goldsboro, a step-daughter; Lynn Sanders of Wilson, a brother and sister–in-law Jimmy and Gina Herring of Palm Bay, Florida.

Barbara Amberson Kirkpatrick, age 77, died Wednesday at home. Born in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Frank Amberson and late Ruby Pravitte Deifler and wife of the late Harry E. Kirkpatrick.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at Wayne Memorial Park.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah K. Johnson and Robin K. Treider and son Lemuel Frank Kornegay.

April 30, 1944 – November 17, 2015
Ursula Heide Marie Georgi Smith, age 71, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Frieda Pletsch Griffith.
Services will be held at a later date.
She is survived by three children.

Christine W. Smith
May 14, 1925 - December 10, 2014
Christine Warrick Smith, age 89, died early Wednesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Maybell Bordeaux Warrick and wife of the late Rev. J. Waldo Smith. She was a member of Hood Swamp Friends Meeting Church. A dedicated preacher’s wife, she and her husband served numerous churches across North Carolina. She was formerly employed with Clinard’s Dress Shop and Howell’s Child Care Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Hood Swamp Friends Church with Rev. Morris Smith, Rev. Jeff Deese and Rev. George Lee officiating. A private burial will be held in the Thad Smith Family Cemetery. Family members will greet friends Saturday at the church fellowship one hour prior to the service.
Christine is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and L.L. Simmons of Snow Hill and Pam and Dennis Atkins of Asheville; a brother, Haywood Warrick of Charlotte; a sister, Edna Breshears of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Kevin and Rhonda Simmons, Ashley and Patsy Simmons, Chris and Doug Muckler and Clark and Holly Atkins and nine great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two special nieces, Margie Barnett and Patricia Faulk Batten, both of whom she loved and cared for in their youth and considered them as “daughters”; a special family friend, Charlie K. Johnson, whom she recognized as her “adopted son” and finally a great-nephew, Ven Faulk. She loved and respected him for as long as she lived and he was always there when she needed him.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Parks, Michael Peele, Clarence Barnett, Keith Gooding and Billy Gooding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the 3HC/Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534. The family wishes to express their humblest gratitude for the excellent tender, gentle and loving care provided our mother during the time she was at Kitty Askins.
