Ada Silver McPeters

Ada Silver McPeters, 89, of Marion, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Mountain View Rest Home.

Born in Yancey County, North Carolina to the late Charles W. Silver and Winnie Hensley Silver, she is preceded in death by her husband Vilous. She is survived by two sons, Vernon McPeters, of Marion and Wilburn McPeters, of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Emma McPeters Causby, of Marion; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Ada was a housewife. She was a member of West Marion Baptist Church and attended Vien Mountain Baptist Church.

Services will be held 3:00 o’clock Friday, April 18, 2003 at McCall Memorial Chapel in Marion. Reverend Barry Gouge will be officiating with the burial following in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Patricia Joyce Ringley

Patricia Joyce Ringley, 74, of Joe Carswell Road, formerly of Jackson, Michigan, died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Grace Heights Nursing Center.

She retired from Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan where she worked as a registered nurse.

Surviving her are 2 sons, Michael Ringley of Nampa, Idaho and Robert Ringley of Surprize, Arizona; 1 grandson, Jacob Ross Ringley of Boise, Idaho and other family and friends in Michigan and Morganton.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton is assisting the Ringley family with arrangements.

Jane Harris Triol

Jane Harris Triol of Grace Ridge Retirement Community, Morganton, NC, formerly of Savannah, GA, died peacefully in the presence of her family on Tuesday, November 30, 2004. She was born on October 29, 1920 in Mt. Carmel, PA to the late Albert Roland and Maude Brewer Harris. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Harris Reiner, and son, Thomas F. Triol, Jr.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Mr. Thomas Francis Triol. Also surviving her are her loving daughters and their husbands, Deborah Triol Perry and R. Anderson Perry, and Helen Triol Drozd and Joseph J. Drozd, all of Morganton, and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of West Chester University and received her masters from Duke University, where she studied physics and committed herself to preparing young scientists in the post-Sputnik era. Jane and husband Tom were recruited by the fledgling Savannah Country Day School in the mid-fifties, and their partnership in education spanned nearly four decades. Jane taught virtually every graduate of the school until their retirement in 1983. Moves to Jerico Island, GA and Homestead, FL preceded the Triols relocation to Morganton, though this area was not unknown to them since they had spent summers at their cabin at Lake James. If there is one place Jane considered heaven on earth, it would be “The Cabin at the Lake.” Her legacy is the love for those she leaves behind.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, December 4th at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Chapel with Reverend Doctor James E. Aydelotte and Reverend Susan Rice presiding. Visitation will follow the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mrs. Triol’s honor be made to theJane Harris and Thomas Francis Triol Endowment Fund at Savannah Country Day School, 824 Stillwood Drive, Savannah, GA 31419 or Grace Ridge Scholarship Fund 500 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC 28655.

Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton is assisting the Triol family with the arrangements.

Mrs. Yia Hang

Mrs. Yia Hang, 55, of Lail Road, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. She was born in Laos on May 7, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Shoua Hang Chang.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by brother, Sao Chang.

She was a member of The First Hmong Alliance Church in Morganton an had worked at Premier Hosiery.

She is survived by her husband, Sy Hang of Morganton; father, Cher Koua Chang of Detroit, Michigan; sons, Xue Hang and wife, Chu Yang Hang; Blong Hang and wife, Yu Chang Hang all of Morganton; Chia Hang and Lee Hang both of Morganton and Kong Hang and wife, Srina Chang Hang of Charlotte; daughter, Mayka Hang of Morganton; brother, Tou Zer Chang of Detroit, Michigan; sisters, May La Chang of Detroit, Michigan and Chou Chang Thao of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and 9 gandchildren.

Service times for Mrs. Hang will be held at Kirksey Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 18th from 5:00 PM until 9PM, Saturday, April 19th from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon and from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; Sunday, April 20th from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM. With Reverend Chang Nhia Kue officiating. Burial will follow the service on Sunday at Burke Memorial Park.

Emery Julius Putnoky

Emery Julius Putnoky, age 79, of Marion, N.C. died Saturday, September 20, 2003 in the McDowell Hospital.

Born in Burlin Heights, Ohio to the late Emery and Clara Putnoky, he was a self-employed carpenter and a veteran of the US Army. He was also a member of the American Legion for 41 years, a member of The Grange and a member of the Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie Hayden.

Surviving are his wife, Vilma Helen Vargo Putnoky of the home; one son, Emery Putnoky of Elyria, Ohio; one daughter, Judith Rowand of Marion, N.C.; one brother, Edward “Eddie” Putnoky of Burlin Heights, Ohio; one sister, Helen Lezak of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be announced at a later date. Kirksey Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his home address.

Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Annie Mae Bice Messer

Annie Mae Bice Messer, age 85, resident of Century Care Nursing Home, Cherryville, N.C., formerly of Marion and Kings Mountain, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 in Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Born in Spartanburg, S.C. to the late Pyck B. Bice and Nobie Henderson Bice she was a homemaker and the wife of the late Arthur D. Messer. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Imogene Curtis.

Surviving are four daughters, Jacqueline Hoyle Scism of Oak Island, N.C., Betti Hoyle Bumgardner and husband, Bill Bumgardner of Clyde, N.C., Diana Hoyle Hamrick and husband Rev. James Hamrick of Kings Mountain, N.C. and Juanita Hoyle Fleming and husband, Dean Fleming of Kings Mountain, N.C.; two sisters, Janie Lou Morgan of Stanley, N.C. and Joyce Dellinger of Cherryville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandhildren.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 o’clock Saturday, April 19, 2003 in McDowell Memorial Park with Rev. James Hamrick and Dean Fleming of Kings Mountain, N.C. and Bill Bumgardner of Clyde, N.C. officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at 922 Battleground Ave, Kings Mountain, N.C. on Sunday, April 20, 2003 at 4:00 o’clock p.m. for family and friends. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of N.C. – 5950 Fairview Rd. – Suite 550 – Charlotte, N.C. 28210 in honor of Kendrick S. Breakfield. Kirksey Funeral Home is assisting the family. Flowers may be sent to Kirksey Funeral Home – 69 N. Main Street – Marion, N.C. 28752. On-line condolences may be made to www.kirkseyfuneralhome.com.

Dallas Clifford Johnson

Dallas Clifford Johnson, age 90, of Marion, N.C., died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at his residence.

Born in Madison County to the late Joseph Grant Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Proffitt Johnson, he was a retired employee of McDowell School System. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joe Steven Johnson and six brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella Stevens Johnson of the home; one brother, Everette Johnson of Marion; one sister, Peggy Fender Duncan of Marion.

Services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Lynn Young will officiate with burial following in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 – 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County – 218 Logan Street – Marion, N.C. 28752.

Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Mr. Styles Phillips

Mr. Styles Phillips, 86, of Bristol Creek Ave. in Morganton died Friday June 18, 2004 at Valdese Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born July 30, 1917 in Buncombe County to the late Ernest Ray Phillips and Ethel Masters Phillips. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Estelle Austin Phillips; two grandchildren William S. Phillips, Marjorie E. Phillips; brother Mike Phillips ; sisters Katherine Crain and Ellen Shelton .

Mr. Phillips was a alumnus of N.C.S.D. graduating in 1937 and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Morganton. He had retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company after fifty years of service.

He is survived by: a son Austin Phillips and his wife Teresa of Morganton; brothers Victor Phillips of Asheville, Kremer Phillips of Prosperity S.C.; sisters Eloise P. Stapleton of Asheville, Ida Stewart of Weaverville and a grandson Jordan Phillips of Morganton.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 20, 2004 at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverends Larry Thompson and Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday 1:30 till 3 at Calvary Baptist Church.

Memorials in Mr. Phillips’ memory may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, South Green Street, Morganton NC 28655 or to Missionary Ridge Baptist Church, c/o the Youth Program, John Watts Road, Morganton NC 28655.

Mr. Danny Abner Johnson

Mr. Danny Abner Johnson, 70, of Sherwood Driver in Morganton died Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born May 24, 1934 in Burke County to the late William O, Johnson and Mattie Page Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Chapel Hope in Lenoir where he had served his beloved church as a Lay Preacher, Deacon and a teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Navy, had retired as an Insurance Agent from Western Southern and was working at Wal-Mart . He was an avid golfer and tennis player, having won numerous awards and had played in the National Senior Tennis Tournament.

He is survived by; his wife Doris Berry Johnson of the home ; children James Daniel Johnson of Asheville, Douglas Johnson and wife Carol of Morganton, Denise J. Williams and husband Brad; brother Harold Johnson of New Port Richie, Florida; grandchildren Lindsay Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Melissa Plunkett, Craig Ceragioli, Jonathan Johnson, Mychaela Williams; great grandchildren Megan Ceragioli, Caleb Ceragioli, Julianne Plunkett and Caroline Plunkett.

A memorial service was held at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Reverends Mike Spicer and Don Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends 4 till 6 PM Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the home of Danny Johnson .

Mr. Charles Howell Allison

Mr. Charles Howell Allison, “Pegleg Charlie”, 87, of Old Fort, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2005. He was born in Transylvania County, NC on July 8, 1917. He was the son of the late Edward Alfonzo Allison and the late Florence Powell Allison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons; George Ronald Allison and Roger Eugene Allison.

Mr. Allison is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Thomas Allison. He is also survived by five sons, Gregory Allison, Jeffery Allison, Chris Allison, Stewart Allison, all of Old Fort, and Charles Allison, of Pensacola, FL; five daughters, Vivian Oliver, of Chesterfield, SC, Abigail Jordan, of Bowling Green, KY, and Sandra Allison, Ramona Davis, and Kim Allison, all of Old Fort; one brother, Arthur Allison, of Old Fort; one sister, Helen Watts, of Asheville, NC; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Allison will be held 11:00AM, Friday, May 13, 2005 in the Old Fort Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, with Reverends Larry Laws and Walter Jordan officiating. Burial will follow the Services at Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00PM – 9:00PM, Thursday, May 12, 2005 in the Old Fort Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Allison’s memory to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan Street, Marion, NC 28752.
