Edna J. Deans

Mrs. Edna Jones Deans died peacefully September 13, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She is now dancing on the streets of glory. She was born
in Tarboro, N.C. December 11, 1921, to the late William Thad and Nellie Warren Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Walter Bennett (Bud) Deans, her brother, Otis Lee Jones; two sisters, Helen Jones Sutton and Evelyn Dean Howell; and a very special companion of 14 years, Herbert Wheeler.
She is survived by her son, Walter B. (Benny) Deans Jr. and wife, Shirley Dudley Deans; her daughter Faye Deans Norman Quinn and husband, Louis Quinn. Her sister, Pearl Herring and sister-in-law, Mavis Jones. Her grandchildren, Kim Norman Johnson and husband, Ricky, Tracy Norman McKeel and husband, Ken, Jackie Norman Lewis and husband, Kemp, Walter B. (Trey) Deans III and wife, Joanne, Brooke Deans Lawrence and husband, Chris. Great grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Bryce McKeel, Tanner McKeel, Addyson McKeel, Jackson Lewis, Reece Lewis, Kate Deans, Walter (Bennett) Deans IV, Cameron Lawrence, and Madison Lawrence; and several nephews and nieces.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the most important part of her life. She always enjoyed time spent with her children. She enjoyed traveling and doing fun things and never met a stranger. She loved talking to everyone and easily made lifelong friends. She was an avid reader and loved to cook. She was addicted to all the "headline news" she was CNN. She was current with local and national news.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at 2 pm, at Victory Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 from 6-8 pm, at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the home of her daughter and son in law, Faye and Louis Quinn, 109 Brisbayne Circle, LaGrange NC.

Mary U. Owens
May 18, 1916 - January 18, 2013
Mary Utterback Owens, age 96, passed away Friday afternoon, at Sterling House of Goldsboro. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Pearl and Lena Weber Utterback and was the wife of the late Ralph E. Owens. She was also preceded in death by a brother Raymond Weber.
A Veteran of World War II, Mrs. Owens served in the United States Army-Women’s Army Air Corp. She was a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
Formerly of Gastonia, Mrs. Owens was employed for many years as an intake court counselor with the Gaston County Juvenile Court Division. Also in Gastonia, she was an active member of Armstrong Presbyterian Church and the Gastonia Pilot Club.
Upon her move to Wayne County, her devotion to her faith continued in her work at Brogden United Methodist Church where she was active in the Friendship Sunday School Class, the Administrative Council, the United Methodist Women, the XYP’s, and the Craft Team. She was well known for her visits to shut-ins and those in nursing care. She continued to demonstrate her concern for youth in serving as Guardian Ad Litem for school children.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her son, David Trent Owens and wife Debra of Dudley, a granddaughter, Jennifer Owens Barnes and husband John of Dudley, a grandson, Jeremy Owens of Goldsboro, and three great grandchildren, Isabella Barnes, Eloise Barnes and John Owens Barnes. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Norris Owens and a sister-in-law, Louise Jackson of Polk County, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Brogden United Methodist Church with Rev. Uiyeon Kim officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of David Owens.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Sterling House and to Community Hospice for the compassion and care offered to Mary during her time of need.

Ronald H. Vinson
May 03, 1937 - January 19, 2013
Ronald Hiram Vinson, age 75, passed away Saturday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Hiram and Catherine Gray Vinson.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at Rones Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Whatley officiating. Family members will greet friends at the church following the service. A committal service will follow in the Vinson Family Cemetery in the New Hope Community.
Mr. Vinson is survived by his wife, Helen Vinson; his Godchildren, Dixon Smith and wife, Angelia and their children, Carmen and Nicole; Cynthia Cuddington and husband, Alan and their children, Travis and Dylan; Terrie Braxton and husband, Donel and their children, Katie, Anna and Emily; Jennifer Strickland and her husband, Billy and their children, Billy, Jack, Isaac and Alexandria.

Catherine R. Lee
March 20, 1927 - January 20, 2013
Catherine Rogers Lee, age 85, passed away early Sunday morning at her residence. Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wallace Rogers and Henrietta Williamson Rogers and wife of the late Frank Lee. She was the sister of the late Frankie, Bo, Luke, Joe, George “Short”, Grace Rexie Rogers and Shirley Balkcum. Catherine was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Olivia. A member of Peace Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a former employee of Belk’s in Mt. Olive and the Mt. Olive Livestock Market.
A service celebrating her life will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russ Evans and Rev. Ray Smith officiating. Entombent will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Family members will greet friends Tuesday following the funeral service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her daughters, Loretta (Daniel) Barfield of Mt. Olive, Fran (Michael) Moro of Virginia Beach, VA; her stepdaughters, Patricia (Gibson) Bogue of Eureka, Dean (Carl) Deavers of Goldsboro; her sisters, Clara Sholar and Nettie Evangeline Rogers both of Holly Ridge; grandchildren, Michael (Claudia) Moro, Amy Moro, Geoffrey Moro, Lee Ann Hardison (Michael), Blake Barfield; great grandchildren, Paul Moro and Mason Hardison; a number of step-grandchildren, including Loreen Moro Clayton, Lisa Moro, Brittany and Nicholas Clayton.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her faithful companion Katie Darden and Dr. Kasbari and the staff at SMOC.

Mary W. Sharrett
February 11, 1924 - January 22, 2013
Mary Witherington Sharrett, 88, went to be with Our Lord on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Mrs. Sharrett was born
in Duplin County, NC, and was the daughter of Cicero E. and Vera Mae Witherington. She was the beloved wife of the late Lowell D. Sharrett.
Mrs. Sharrett spent many of her adult years as a devoted military wife, even serving as a civilian aircraft mechanic during WWII. After her husband’s 40+ years of military and government service, the couple retired to Dudley, NC where they lived many years among family and friends.
Mrs. Sharrett was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing and needle crafts.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn, son, James; 4 sisters, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Martha-Beryl Poste, 85, of Selma, NC passed away Saturday, January 26th. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 3580 Lizzie Mill Road, Selma, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 2nd. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.
Mrs. Poste is survived by her husband, Gordon Poste; her son, Steven Poste and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, David Poste and wife, Daneen, Matthew Poste and wife, Stacie, Timothy Poste and wife, Ashley and a great grandson, Jordan Poste.
She was preceded in death by daughter Marti Brown and son Andre Poste.

Linwood Kornegay
April 01, 1951 - January 19, 2013
Milford Linwood Kornegay, 61 of Dudley passed away Saturday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Milford and Ruth Corbett Kornegay, and was the husband of Donna L. Kornegay. Linwood was the owner and operator of Kornegay Autobody.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Committal will follow the services at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
In addition to his wife Mr. Kornegay is survived by 2 daughters, Judy Sullivan and husband, Scott of Alamo, California, and Cindy Kornegay and husband, Robbie of Dudley; a son Lance Kornegay and wife, Jessica of Dudley; four brothers, Ray Kornegay and wife, Betsy of Winterville, Douglas Kornegay of Florida, Roger Kornegay and wife, Carolyn of Grantham, and Larry Kornegay of Grantham; two sisters, Ellen Therrell and husband, Bill of Dudley, and Theresa Pittman and husband Don of Wilson; and 10 grandchildren, Kelsey, Caleb, McKala, Ashton, and Landon Kornegay, Skyler and Tyler Barnes, Jaden, Chance, and Katya Sullivan.

Helen Gregory Grady, age 68, passed away Wednesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was born
in Duplin County to the late William Joseph and Leona Morton Gregory.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
She is survived by her son, Randy “Sack” Grady; her daughter, B.J. Grady Carbonell; four grandchildren and spouses, Crystal Jane Grady, Corey Carbonell and wife Sierra, Summer Carbonell Cummings and husband Calvin, Cody Carbonell; eight great-grandchildren, Hunter Brian, Sophia Cummings, Levi Cummings, Layla Carbonell, Niles Grady, Hannah Grady, Brooklynne Grady, and Bryce Grady; a brother, Billy Ray Gregory; and two sisters, Ann Rivenbark and Linda Corbett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy Grady, her brother Bobby Gregory, and her sister Josephine Graves.
