Warsaw - Ms. Gloria Jean Moore, 57 of 465 Boyette Rd., went from labor to reward on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Vidant Duplin Hospital.
Born in Duplin Co., she is the daughter of Lou Etta Wallace Whitfield and the late James Lee Whitfield.
Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Moses Chapel Disciple Church of Christ with Pastor Kendall Clark, officiating. Burial will follow in Cobbs Cemetery.
Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of her children, India Whitfield of Beulaville and China Whitfield of Warsaw; a granddaughter, Dazmine Jeanay, who is the apple of her eye; her mother, Lou Etta Whitfield of Warsaw; siblings, Evonne W. Dalie (Wilbert Jr.) of Raleigh, Delphine Lassiter (Glenn) of Magnolia, James Whitfield Jr. (LaBeech) of Warsaw and Jeannette Barkley of Philadelphia; Godmother, Ernestine Brinson of Warsaw; Godsister, Evangelist Frances Hill of Warsaw and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her father, she has been reunited with her siblings, Darnell Whitfield, Loretta Whitfield and Swanella Whitfield.
Viewing will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. to receive friends and at other times at the residence.
James W. Thorb

Warsaw - Mr. James W. Thorb, 74 of 220 E. Best St. transitioned on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at his home.
Born in Duplin Co., he is the son of the late Leroy and Maggie Sloan Thorb.
Life Celebration Service will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at New Elder's Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow in the Dobson Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Lenora Thorb of the home; step-daughter, Thomasine Stallings, siblings, Rose Rich (Thomas), Ray E. Thorb (Jackie), Ernest R. Thorb (Debra) Sarah Wyche, Magglene Gillis (Perris) all of Raleigh and David Sloan of Mt. Olive; sister-in-law, Linda Thorb of Raleigh and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel and one hour prior to funeral service Wednesday at the church.

Flushing, New York - Ms. Mary Bigger McNeil 68, of 45-12 Smart Street, Flushing, New York transitioned on October 22, 2015 at Flushing Hospital in New York.
Born in Duplin Co., she is the daughter of the late Foster and Mary Louise Miller Bigger.
Life Celebration Service will held Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Big Zion AME Zion Church with Dr. Larry Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens.
Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of her son, Shawn Neil of New York, a host of cousins other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to funeral service at the church.

Turkey - Ms. Delphine Brinson, 70 of 1030 Cornwallis Rd., died Friday, October 23, 2015 at her home.
Life Celebration Service will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Star OFWB Church, 305 Morrisey Blvd., Clinton. Burial will follow in Wilson Chapel Church Cemetery.
Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of her children, Tina Brinson of Turkey, Jimmy Brinson of Faison and Patricia Brinson of Turkey; three grandchildren Drucilla, Shenika, and Derrick; three sisters, Joyce Faison, Sylvia Caldwell both of Clinton and Evelyn Martin of Cary; six brothers, Sylvester Caldwell, Joseph Caldwell Victor Caldwell, Ricky Caldwell and Kevin Caldwell of Clinton, and Clayton Caldwell of Newark, NJ; a host of nieces, including a special niece, Orletta Faison, nephews, cousins, including a special cousin, Ivory Carr of Philadelphia, PA.

High Point - Ms. Doris Marie Edwards-Hargrove was born
September 24, 1947 to the late Albert & Eunice Edwards in Sampson County. She departed this life on Sunday, October 4, 2015 in High Point North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Hargrove, Clinton, North Carolina.
Doris graduated from Carver High School. She continued her education then graduating from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Doris taught the gifted and challenged students in Plainfield and Elizabeth New Jersey for many years.
She leaves to cherish her memories; sister, Lena Edwards Saunders, (Joseph), Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Clifton Ray Edwards (Shirley), Mt. Olive, NC, David Marshall Edwards (Michele), Aberdeen, MD, Albert Gerald Edwards (Rhonda), Philadelphia, PA, Reginald Lee Edwards (Michele), Chester, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Garris Funeral Home.

Mt. Olive - Noe Guerrero, 21 of 435 Thurman Herring Rd. transitioned on Sunday as a result of a car accident at Vidant Medical Center.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015˜ 12:00 Noon at Reyna de las Americas, 632 Whitfield Rd., Mt. Olive, NC. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, 3262 US 117 – Mt. Olive, NC.

Warsaw - Ms. Doretha Outlaw, 77 of 320 W. College St. transitioned on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation.
Born in Duplin Co., she is the daughter of the late Clarence Allen Williams and Lizzie Boone Williams.
Homegoing Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at KEMBA Headquarters with Elder Braxton Frederick, officiating. She will be laid to rest in Devotional Gardens.
She leaves to cherish her love and legacy to her children, Marilyn O. Hall of Beulaville, Jennifer Outlaw of Raleigh and Herman Outlaw Jr of Warsaw; one sister, Madeline Moore of Queens, NY; fifteen grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

on August 3, 1965 in Wayne County to Elaine Jones.
Life Celebration Service will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Gospel Light United Holy Church with Elder Dorothy McDaniel, officiating. She will be laid to rest in Carver Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to her husband, Cedric Lofton; two children, Justin Bellamy and Cedaja Lofton of Mt. Olive; step daughter Ta'Niya King of Mt. Olive; three grandchildren, Caleb Bellamy of Clayton, Khloe' Nyla Jones of Brooklyn, NY and Amya Bellamy of Raleigh; mother-in-law, Elder Rachel Lofton McClarin of Mt. Olive; father-in-law, Deacon Levison Lofton Sr. of Mt. Olive; three aunts, Mattie Jones, Nancy Jones and Louise Jones of Mt. Olive, nieces, nephews, cousins, including a devoted cousin, Cynthia Jones and many friends including special friends, Brittany King and Sonya Lewis.
She has been reunited with her grandmother, Ada Jones; uncle, Allen Jones, and aunt, Marion Jones Grantham.
