Mickey Gene Best

Mickey Gene Best, resident of the Beautancus Community near Mount Olive, passed away on his 70th birthday Wednesday evening, August 8, 2018, while at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
His life will be remembered in a graveside service to be held Friday, August 10, at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. The Rev. Paul Rose & The Rev. Jerry Marshburn will officiate. The family will be receiving friends at the residence. In lieu of flowers, any donations to the funeral home toward funeral expenses would be appreciated by the family.
Mickey, an avid lover of horses, was a member of the Beautancus Saddle Club. He operated Mickey's Auto Body Repair Shop.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Dixon Best, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Best Sholar and Jamie Sholar of Wallace; a granddaughter, Kelsey Sholar Quinn and husband, Cody, of Charleston, SC; a brother, Dallas Best of Mount Olive; and a sister, Christine Best of Goldsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erman and Julia "Teen" Bell Best; brother, Elwood and Jimmy; and sisters, Lucille and Louise.
Madie Sanders Thompson
August 10, 1923 - October 17, 2013
Faison - Mother Madie Thompson, 90 of 220 David Bright Rd. went from labor to reward on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sampson Co., she is the daughter of the late John and Maylon Hobbs Sanders.
A Triumphant Homegoing Service will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Burning Bush Holy Church with Elder Arto Pickett, officiating. Burial will follow in Faison Community Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to her sons, Delton Thompson Jr. of Goldsboro and Lenwood Thompson of Faison; one granddaughter; three brothers, Willie Sanders of Brooklyn, NY, James Sanders of Philadelphia, PA and John Sanders of Willingboro, NJ; three sisters, Willia Morrison of Trenton, NJ, Vera Hardy of Philadelphia, PA and her twin, Mazie Thompson of Faison; a host of other relatives and friends.
A time of viewing and reflection will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. to receive friends.
Benjamin Bass

Mt. Olive - Mr. Benjamin Bass, 81 of 417 E. Franklin St. died Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Wayne Co., he is the son of the late Ellard Bass Sr. and Geneva Bass.
funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at New Sts. Delight Holy Church with Bishop Quincy Gardner, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakview Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Athalene Kornegay Bass of the home; four sons, Leroy Kornegay and Dwight Bass of Mt. Olive, Danny (Barbara) Bass of Hamilton, Canada and Anthony (Cassandra) Bass of Parksville, TN; three daughters, Linda Bass and Patricia Bass(Rick)Nelson of Durham and Brenda Bass of Mt. Olive; seventeen grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Bass of Mt. Olive; daughter-in-law, Shelia Bass of Greensboro and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He has been reunited with his sons, Arnold Bass and Hubert Jones.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel.
Ann Hatcher Barnes
(March 17, 1936 - July 8, 2013)
Dudley - Mrs. Ann Hatcher Barnes, 77 of 292 Stanley Chapel Church Rd. transitioned from labour to reward on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was the daughter of the late Preston and Mary Greenfield Hatcher. She completed her education in the Wayne County School System and graduated from Carver High School. She attended nursing school at Kings County Hospital in New York, where she received her LPN degree. She obtained an Associates degree in Sociology from Wayne Community College and a Bachelors degree from East Carolina University. She was employed with AT&T; in New York as a switch operator. Because of her excellent verbal skills, she was chosen by the U.S. government during the Cuban Missile Crisis, to man communication stations that listened for any signal of nuclear attack on the U.S. She also worked at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro and Elwin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Greenleaf Christian Church with Apostole Dennis Jacobs, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenfield-Hatcher Family Cemetery, Dudley.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Johnnie V. Barnes of the home; one daughter, Madeline McBride (Cliff) of Seattle, Washington; three sons, Hogan Smith of Newark, Delaware, Dwaine Smith (Michelle) of Harvest, Alabama and Kerry Guy Smith (Shamauer) of Dudley; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Sara Mack (Abraham) and Muriel Mereday; three brothers, Johnnie, Preston, and Marvin Hatcher, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, "Lola" has been reunited with her brothers, Charles, Larry, and David Hatcher, her youngest daughter, Wanda Elaine Smith and baby boy Smith.

Faison - Mr. Willie A. Faison of 10646 Hwy. 403 died Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Brian Center, Wallace.
He was born
in Sampson Co. on March 23, 1923 to his parents, the late, William and Easter Bell Faison.
Service celebrating his life and legacy will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Poplar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Alford, officiating. Burial will follow in Cobbs Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Annie Aycock Faison of the home; two sons, David Lee Faison of Clinton and Willie E. Faison of Faison; two daughters, Alice Kornegay and Linda Artis of Faison; eighteen grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kenansville - Miss Dalphine Moore of 515 Paul Ed Dail Rd. died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at her home.
"Scooter" as she was affectionally called by family and friends is the daughter of Marguerite Miller Moore and the late Lacy Moore. She was born
on July 5, 1965 in Duplin County.
Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Missionary Church Kenansville, 247 N Church St. with Rev. Victor Wilson, officiating. Burial will follow in Middleton Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish the loves of her life, twin sons, Dondrae Moore and Dontae Moore; mother, Marguerite Moore of Kenansville; three brothers, Lacy Moore Jr., Daniel Matthews and Dennis Moore of Kenansville; four sisters, Thelma Moore, of Kenansville, Gloria (James) Carter of Fayetteville, Wanda (Joseph) Stokes of Magnolia, Marguaretta (Rev. Faison - Ms. Lorene Glaspie, 78 of 108 Hicks Lane died Monday at Vidant Duplin Hospital.
Born in Duplin Co. she is the daughter of the late Asper and Irene Graham Glaspie.
Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Magnolia. Burial will follow in Glaspie Family Memorial Gardens.
Her love and legacy will be cherished by her children, Brenda L. Bellinger of Silver Springs, MD, Bernard Bellinger of Faison and Michael Bellinger Sr. (JoAnn) of Upper Marlboro, MD; three grandchildren, Michelle N. Bellinger, Michael Bellinger Jr. and Marcus Bellinger; one sister, Bernice McKoy (Doug) of Philadelphia, PA; three brothers, James Glaspie (Mary) of Mystic, CT, Freddie Glaspie (Julia) of Philadelphia, PA and Lovonzel Glaspie of Farmville; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Perlie Fryar Moore

Warsaw - Mrs. Perlie Fryar Moore, 93 of 196 Carrolls Rd. died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Warsaw Health & Rehab.
She is the daughter of the late George W. Fryar Sr. and Annie Mae Carlton Fryar.
Homegoing Service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Connors, officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Chapel Church Cemetery.
