Louise T. Weeks
Louise Thigpen Weeks, 84, a long-time resident of the Mount Olive area, died Wednesday, June 20.
A funeral service will held Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home with the Revs. Chris Watkins and Bill Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Calypso Cemetery .
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21 from 7 until 9 p.m., and at other times at the Jimmie and Joyce Gardner home, 508 Edwina Kornegay Road, Calypso.
Memorials may be made to Manley’s Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church or to one’s favorite charity.
Jesse Bouie Jr.
NEWARK, NJ —Jesse Bouie, Jr. died on Saturday, June 16, at the Newark Extended Care Facility.
A military tribute will be held on Thursday, June 21 with a committal ceremony in the U.S. Army Veterans Memorial Chapel and burial in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ .
Funeral arrangements were handled by Cotton Funeral Home of Newark, NJ.
Ashton O. Jackson Sr.
Ashton Owen Jackson, Sr., 82, of 3458 Old Mount Olive Highway, Mount Olive, died Thursday morning, June 14, at his home.
A funeral service held Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. from the chapel Tyndall Funeral Home The family reived friends following the service. The Rev. Bob Goodman officiated.
Committal and interment were at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Wayne Memorial Park at Goldsboro .
Elizabeth M. O’Berry
January 14, 1923- April 2, 2008
DUDLEY—Elizabeth Maness O’Berry, 85, of 266 Club Knolls Rd., Dudley, died Wednesday, April 2 at Wayne Memorial Hospital at Goldsboro.
She was born
in Montgomery County to the late John Ray and Christian Elizabeth McLeod Maness and was wife of the late J. Thomas O’Berry Jr.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doris Jean O’Berry and a grandson, Jared Tracy.
Mrs. O’Berry was a retired teacher and guidance counselor from the Wayne County Public Schools and was a member of Dudley Christian Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, past president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and former member of the State Regional Board for the Disciples of Christ. She was also a former fire commissioner for the Dudley Volunteer Fire Department.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at Goldsboro with Pastor Blane Smith of Dudley Christian Church in Dudley and Pastor Douglas Dexter of First Christian Church of Mount Olive officiating. Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive .
Mrs. O’Berry is survived by four daughters, Diana O. Steed and husband, Joedy of Candor; Anne O’Berry of Melbourne, FL; Brenda O. Dexter and husband, Douglas and Martha O. Tracy and husband, Steve, both of Dudley; two sisters, Doris Poole and husband Henry of Mint Hill; Jean Allen and husband J.F. of Biscoe; one brother, John Kent Maness and wife Cara of Robbins; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family members received friends Friday evening, April 4 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and other times at Mrs. O’Berry’s home, 266 Club Knolls Road, Dudley.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Dudley Christian Church, 212 O’Berry Road, Dudley, NC 28333 or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family was served by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory of Goldsboro.
Velma Lofton
DEEP BOTTOM—Velma Lofton, 69, of the Deep Bottom community, died Tuesday, April 1 at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.
A funeral service was held Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. from the Victory Deliverance Temple in Maple Hill with Bishop Pickett officiating. Burial followed in the Pickett Family Cemetery in Wallace.
She is survived by her husband, Lermon Lofton of Wallace; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lenwood and Cynthia Lofton of Maple Hill, Curtis and Cathy Lofton of Rocky Point and Prince Lofton of Tillery; a daughter, Reeshema Robinson of Wallace; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Garfield Marshburn, Willie Mae and Larry Smith, Annetta and Lacy Pickett and Wanda Graham, all of Maple Hill; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two aunts, one uncle and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Saturday, April 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home at Rose Hill.
Bobby Cooper
ROSE HILL—Bobby Cooper, 49, of Rose Hill died Saturday, March 29 in Wilmington .
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. from New Christian Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Rose Hill with the Rev. Reginald A. Wells officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, DeAudra Burton of Teachey; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Darick and Brenda P. Murphy of Radcliff KY, James and Tamela T. Murphy of Garner, and Elxdrice and Charlene Murphy of Apex; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Emma Ruth Jarman of Adelphi, MD, Dorice R. Murphy of Antioch, TN, and Estella R. and James Thomas of Rose Hill; and one aunt, Othel Dixon of Rose Hill.

Donald Motley
COLUMBIA SC — Donald Motley, 69, died Thursday, March 27.
He was the son of late Delphine D. and Lilliie Miles Motley. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Columbia .
A graveside service was held on Saturday, March 29 at 3 p.m. at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Elgin, SC. The family received friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
He is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara M. and Earl Rose of Clayton, NC, Margaret Wingard of Leesville, SC, and Diane Connell of Columbia; a brother, Billy Motley of Hopkins, SC; several nieces and nephews, including Gary M. Rose of Warsaw.
Arrangements were handled by Shives Funeral Home of Columbia, SC. The local announcement was made by Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, NC .
Elwin B. ‘Joe’ Rogers
Elwin B. “Joe” Rogers, 73, of 117 Jim Grady Road, died Tuesday, April 1 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington .
Rogers, born
in Sampson County, was the son of the late Henry W. Rogers and Henrietta Williamson Rogers.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church .
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. from Trinity United Methodist Church in Magnolia with the Rev. Dr. Michael V. Moro and the Rev. J.T. Honeycutt officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by three sisters, Clara R. Sholar and Nettie Evangeline Rogers, both of Holly Ridge, Catherine R. Lee of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Rexie Rogers and Shirley R. Balkcum, and four brothers, Frankie Rogers Calvin “Bo” Roger, Craven “Luke” Roger, and George W. “Short” Rogers.
The family received friends Friday, April 4 from 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton and other times at 1500 Kader Merritt Rd., Rose Hill.
