Raleigh - Ernest Russell Tims, Jr., 79, of 6104 Friars Walk Place, died at his home on Monday, January 26, 2009. Ernest was born in Harrison, Arkansas on November 18, 1929 to the late Ernest Russell Tims, Sr. and Maud Lindsey Tims. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and came out of service as a Captain. With his ROTC service, he was able to enter and graduate from Georgia Tech with an electrical engineering degree. He retired as Vice President of Operations with CRS-Sirrine Company. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Karen Grace Tims, July 17, 1984.

Bessie Mae Alford Lewis, age 103, of 4200 Old Lewis Farm Road, died Friday, January 23, 2009. Mrs. Lewis was a retired school teacher, a farmer’s wife and homemaker.
Funeral: 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at Knightdale Baptist Church.
Burial: New Knightdale Baptist Church Cemetery, Mailman Road, Knightdale NC.

100 Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her parents, the Reverend John and Lucy Alford, and her husband, Vasco Earl Lewis; a granddaughter, and a great-grandson. She was the oldest and the last living of 7 children.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at L. Harold Poole funeral service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545, and other times at the Lewis home.

Raleigh - Gwen Edwards Peterson, 55, of 7021 San Juan Hill Court, died suddenly Monday, January 19, 2009 at Wake Med. Gwen was born October 8, 1953 in Queens, NY to William Charles Edwards and Cordelia Gerace Edwards. She graduated high school and had four years of college; but her most prized profession was that of being a homemaker. She was a devoted wife to her husband and a wonderful mother to her children. She will be missed by her family.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 6020 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.

Scotland Neck - Wade Martin Boyette, Jr., 69, of 244 Woodstock Farm Road, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Wake Med. Wade was born in Wake County on August 3, 1939 to the late Wade Martin Boyette, Sr. and Algie Williams Davis. He graduated from Garner High School in 1957. Captain Boyette retired as a Captain with 30 years of service with the Raleigh Fire Department. Wade, along with his family, lived in the Garner area where he was active and very supportive of activities in and around Garner. He and Penny retired to Scotland Neck in 1998.

Raleigh - Hixon Bradley “Gunny” Knapp, Jr., 68, of 5536 Grasshopper Road, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with mylofibrosis. Hixon was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin on April 17, 1937. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years and after retirement was a United States Federal Marshall. Gunny was also a truck driver for MG Industries of Wake Forest.
