Mr. Charles J. Corbett

CEDAR GROVE - Mr. Charles Johnson 'Charlie' Corbett, 74, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at his home.

Born Aug. 24, 1923, in Cedar Grove, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Nellie Cotton Corbett, and the son of Mr. Bennie Corbett and Mrs. Clara Johnson Corbett, both deceased.

Survivors include six sons, Mr. Charles Cotton Jr., Mr. Curtis Cotton, Mr. Larry Cotton, Mr. Gary Cotton, Mr. Michael Cotton and Mr. Rickey Cotton, all of Maryland; two daughters, Mrs. David (Margie) Fowler and Ms. Patricia Corbett, both of Maryland; two sisters, Ms. Mildred Thompson of Mebane and Ms. Naomi Swann of Denver; four brothers, Mr. Lloyd Corbett, Mr. Joseph Corbett, both Cedar Grove, Mr. Benjamin Corbett of Mebane and Mr. Harvey Corbett of Manassas, Va.; 31 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kimes Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Tyrone Alston, pastor. Burial will be in White Oak Church cemetery.

The family will be at Kimes Chapel Baptist Church from 7 to 8 Friday evening.

Chavis-Parker Funeral Home in Hillsborough is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Elmore Shambley

MEBANE - Mr. Elmore 'Bo' Shambley, 79, of 1623 Mebane Oaks Road, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at his home after several years of failing health.

McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Harold Clark Sr.

CHAPEL HILL - Mr. Harold Lloyd Clark Sr., 70, died Wednesday, Nov 12, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Charlotte S. Clark, who survives. He was a truck driver and a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Mr. H.L. Clark and Mr. Randall Clark, both of Snow Camp; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Borrego of Miami and Mrs. Terri Lynn Allen of Durham; two brothers, Mr. Devan Clark of Carrboro and Mr. Raeford Clark of Pittsboro; two sisters, Ms. Faye Stinson of Chapel Hill and Ms. Jean Crowder of Henderson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro.

The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill from 6 to 8 Friday evening.

Memorials may be made to the South Orange Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 700, Carrboro, N.C. 27510.

Mr. Keith A. Rimmer

MEBANE - Mr. Keith Andrew Rimmer, 39, of 404 E. Oakwood St., died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at his home.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. William G. Rimmer Jr. and Mrs. Marsha Carol Porterfield Rimmer, who survive. He was employed at Parker-Hannifin Corp. in Hillsborough, and was Baptist.

Survivors other than his parents of Mebane include one sister, Mrs. Franklin Lynn (Joan) Matherly of Mebane; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Rimmer Sr. of Hurdle Mills.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Keith Moore, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Wheeler's Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will be at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Hermos H. Modlin

MEBANE - Mr. Hermos Haywood 'Shaker' Modlin, 68, of 401 N. Fifth St., died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center after a four-day illness.

Born May 14, 1929, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margie McAdams Modlin, who survives, and the son of Mr. William A. Modlin and Mrs. Rosa Womble Modlin, both deceased. He was retired supervisor for Dixie Yarns in Mebane.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Rick Modlin of the home and Mr. Jeff Modlin of Mebane; three sisters, Mrs. Jackie Ashley of Graham, Mrs. Polly Rudd of Elon College and Mrs. Pat Ray of Durham; three brothers, Mr. Bobby Modlin and Mr. Frankie Modlin, both of Haw River, and Mr. Thomas E. Modlin of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Barbara Grant; and a brother, Mr. Delbert Modlin.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane this evening from 7 to 9, and at other times at the home of the son Mr. Jeff Modlin, 211 Kit Lane, Mebane.

Mrs. Eva G. Solomon

YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Eva Frances Gibson Solomon, 79, of 1525 Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Stratford Health Center in Danville.

Born Feb. 2, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the wife of Mr. Henry Thomas Solomon, who died in 1972. She was the daughter of Mr. James Harvey Gibson and Mrs. Mattie Rigney Gibson, both deceased. She was a homemaker and Methodist.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Tom Solomon of Yanceyville; three sisters, Ms. Irene G. Stowe of Dry Fork, Va., Ms. Ola G. Dalton and Ms. Naomi Gibson, both of Danville, Va.; three stepsisters, Ms. Earline Terry, Ms. Betty Gray and Ms. Sue C. Chambers, all of North Carolina; and a grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Dennis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Marley Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening, and at other times at the home of the son, Mr. Tom Solomon, Main Street, Yanceyville.

Mr. Billy W. Jordan

SILER CITY - Mr. Billy Wayne Jordan, 63, of 549 Harold Andrews Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Virgie Howard Jordan, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Mamie J. Jordan, who survives, and the late Mr. Jack Jordan. He was retired after 31 years of service with Collins and Aikman in Siler City and was currently employed with Ramtex in Ramseur.

Survivors other than his wife and mother of Siler City include two daughters, Mrs. Sheila J. Bowman and Mrs. Sharon J. Booth, both of Siler City; one son, Mr. Billy H. Jordan of Siler City; two brothers, Mr. Henry Raeford Jordan and Mr. Ronald Jordan, both of Siler City; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rocky River Baptist Church by the Rev. Greg Burriss. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Annie S. Mangum

YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Annie Slade Mangum, 87, a resident of Evergreen Nursing Home in Greensboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997.

Born Aug. 14, 1910, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lambert Mangum, and the daughter of Mr. Fletcher Slade and Mrs. Ella Bigelow Slade, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Pearson Chapel AME Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. George Slade of Columbus, Ohio, and Mr. Joe Slade of Denver; and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Cephus Lea.

Mr. Elmore Shambley

MEBANE - Mr. Elmore 'Bo' Shambley, 79, of 1623 Mebane Oaks Road, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at his home after several years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mildred Mae McGee Shambley, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edward Allison Shambley and Mrs. Owen Terrell Shambley, both deceased. He was retired from White Furniture Co. in Mebane where he worked for 36 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was Methodist.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Berry of Efland; one brother, Mr. Henry 'Pete' Shambley; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Pearl S. Brown and Ms. Rosie S. Dority; six brothers, Mr. Johnny Shambley, Mr. Joe Shambley, Mr. Robert Shambley, Mr. Clyde Shambley, Mr. Geoffrey Shambley and Mr. Jesse Shambley.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Marty Cauley and the Rev. Terry Huffines. Burial will be in the Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Dean H. Frith

GRAHAM - Mr. Dean Herman Frith, 62, of 1610 Rogers Road, died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

A native of Franklin County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Glenda Grogan Frith, who survives, and the son of Mr. Douglas Herman Frith and Mrs. Ruby Victoria Perdue Frith, both deceased. He was retired from General Electric, and was a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Dena Moore of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Kathryn Dulin and Miss Jennifer Frith, both of Charlotte; one son, Mr. Allen Thompson of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Jane Boyer of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. June Clay of Lake Placid, Fla.; one brother, Mr. James B. Frith of Lake Placid; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, Va. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Park.

The family will be at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening. The body will be taken to the Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, where the family will be from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday. At other times, they will be at the home.

Mrs. Margaret Oakley

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Margaret Small Oakley, 74, of 405 Cameron St., died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at the Hospice Home.

Survivors include one son, Mr. Charlie Bruce Coe Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Mr. Walter Small of Burlington and Mr. Clem Small of Michigan; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Small Webster of Orlando, Fla.; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Funeral arrangements by McClure Funeral Home are incomplete.

Mrs. Louise D. Allen

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Louise Dasher Allen, 87, a resident of Alamance Health Care Center, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at home after several years of failing health. She was a former resident of Everett Street.

A native of Valdosta, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. Zeb Vance Allen, and the daughter of Mr. Frank Dasher and Mrs. Dahlia Corbett Dasher, both deceased. She was a retired textile worker, a member of the Women of the Moose and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Zeb Vance Allen Jr. of Burlington and Mr. Robert Lee Allen of Atlanta; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Dale O. Steele. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and at other times at the home of the son, Mr. Zeb Vance Allen Jr., 410 Everett St., Burlington.
