JAMES “BO” LEE MOODY
James “Bo” Lee Moody, 60, of Siler City, died Thursday, (04-18-2013) at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro. A graveside service was held Sunday, (04-21-2013) at 3 p.m. at Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery, with Pastor Larry McEntire and William Fields officiating. Mr. Moody was born in Chatham County, January 11, 1953, the son of Charles “Bill” Lee and Peggy (Hargrove) Moody. He was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and attended Central Carolina Community College. He worked for twenty years in the maintenance department of Collins & Aikman. Bo was a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cathy (Landreth) Moody; parents, Charles “Bill” Lee and Peggy (Hargrove) Moody. ROBERT (BOBBY) R. SPENCE III
Robert (Bobby) R. Spence, III, age 57, of Goldston died at his home. A private service will be held at a later date. Mr. Spence was born in New London, Ct., on November 24, 1955, the son of Robert R. II and Margaret Mae (Davis) Spence. He was employed as a S. A. Counselor and was a Marine veteran. Bobby was preceded in death by a sister, Sallianne Spence. He is survived by sisters, Delores Gibson of NC, Mary Jean Carter of TX, Jennifer Cowgill of AZ, Dora Haberstroh of TX; brothers: Michael Spence of New London, CT, and John Lee of NC. CHARLES A. (HOLLYWOOD) HACKNEY
Charles A. (Hollywood) Hackney, 64, of 430 Calvin Phillips Road, Bennett, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Hackney was born in Moore County on March 4, 1949, the son of John and Josie (Brewer) Hackney. Charles was an employee of Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, and a Chatham County Deputy for 15 years. He spent five years with the Lee County Animal Control, served as a reserve police officer with Robbins Police Department, and had been an insurance agent with Southland Life Insurance Company. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Charles loved fishing, hunting and working with leather and wood. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and sound room technician. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Phillips) Hackney; three sons, Tony Hackney and wife Tara of Robbins, Jerry Hackney of Bennett, Drew Hackney and wife Maggie of Siler City: a granddaughter, Jacy Hackney; and several nieces. The family received friends Monday, April 22, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church, 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett with Rev. Scott Allmond, Rev. Chance Walters and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard followed in the church cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the State Employee Credit Union, Attn. Ann Swire, 101 Walmart Super Center, Siler City, NC 27344, for the Jacy Hackney Scholarship Fund. GRACE A. TEMPLE PERRIN
Born August 28, 1913 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Walter and Caroline Grant Temple, Grace Temple Perrin was called into the presence of the Lord she loved on April 20, 2013 at Pittsboro Christian Village. Mrs. Perrin was the wife of James Perrin and together they moved from West Orange, New Jersey to Pittsboro, in 1990. Grace graduated from Sharon High School in Charlotte, NC and worked as a secretary for a lawyer in that city until moving back to New Jersey with her parents and taking a job with the railroad in New York City, which she held for many years. She was married to James Perrin in 1970. Her interests included sewing and gardening and many are those who benefited from her skills throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her step children, James Perrin and his wife Pat, who live in Pennsylvania, and Lois Sippel and her husband, Richard of Vermont. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren in addition to one living brother, Paul Temple, who resides in New Jersey with his wife Dorothy. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Pittsboro Christian Village with viewing and visitation preceding at 1 p.m. Internment will immediately follow the funeral service at Chatham Memorial Park. Mr. Douglas S. Mabe, 61, of Sanford, died Wednesday, (04-10-2013) at Central Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete but will be announced by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
JOSEPH “Joe” FRANK MATARAZZO
Joseph Frank Matarazzo, “Joe”, 60, of Moncure, died Wednesday (04-03-2013) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Mr. Matarazzo was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 28, 1952, the son of Joseph Frank Matarazzo and Juanita Carter Matarazzo. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Joseph “Big Joe” Robert Matarazzo. Survivors include his wife Sharon R. Matarazzo of the home; daughter, Anita M. Matarazzo of Sanford; and one grandson. The family received friends Saturday (04-13-2013) at Moncure United Methodist Church. MAE CRUTCHFIELD POE
Mae Crutchfield Poe, 99, of Moncure died Tuesday (04-09-2013) at her home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (04-12-2013) at Haywood Independent Bible Church with Rev. Terry Pleasant and Rev Ray Gooch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Chatham County, August 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Lod N. and Gertrude Watson Crutchfield. She was also predeceased by her husband, Arthur Marion Poe, Sr., sisters, Myrtle C. May, Ida C. Goodwin and granddaughter, Bonnie Lynn Oldham. She was a member of Haywood Independent Bible Church and retired from Townsend with 27 years of service. Surviving are her twin, Mary Crutchfield Barnes of the home; daughters, Willie Mae Stone of Moncure, JoAnn Oldham of Pittsboro, Nancy P. Oldham of the home; son, Arthur Marion Poe, Jr. of Moncure; twelve grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Darla Butler Landers, 45, of Bennett, died Tuesday, (04-09-2013) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, (04-12-2013) at Beulah Baptist Church, with Dr. Neal Jackson, Rev. Dale Butler, and Dr. Curtis Barbery officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Darla, a native of Moore County, was employed with Health Care Management Consulting. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and was organizer of Wings, and active in the Ladies Bible Study, and the Ladies Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her father, Odell Butler, Jr.Survivors include her husband, Mark Landers; sons, Alex Landers and Ben Landers, both of the home; mother, Ruby Myrick Butler of Bennett; sisters, Melody Beam of Asheboro, Vickie Brown of Albemarle; and a brother, Rev. JOSEPH ROGER BOWDEN
Joseph Roger Bowden, 95, of Sanford died Friday, (04-12-2013), at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation. A family graveside service was held Monday, (04-15-2013), at 11 a.m. at Erwin Chapel Church Cemetery, with Rev. James Bowden presiding and a eulogy by Capt. Jim McGovern, USN. Mr. Bowden was born in Harnett County to the late Keet Bowden and Lonnie Wiggins Bowden. He was a retired farmer and served his country in the US Army during WW II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Frances Turlington Bowden, sisters, Gladys Dupree, Mary Norton; brothers, Thurman Bowden, Herman Bowden and Billy Ray Bowden. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Kay Bowden Byerly of Sanford; brother, Rev. James Bowden of Sanford; sisters, Frances Matthews of Coats, Peggy Stone of TN, Judy Graham of Sanford, Mildred Lockamy of Broadway; three grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
HAROLD H. ALLRED
Harold Hearthy Allred passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 after several years of declining health. Born June 12, 1923, he was the fourth of seven children born to Jesse Booker Allred and wife Eva Hanks Clark of Siler City. Harold was a World War II Navy veteran who served as a PT Boat engineer and gunner in the European Theatre. After the D-Day Invasion of France, Harold was assigned to the Pacific where he began training for an invasion of Japan. He was honorably discharged on February 1, 1946. He attended Wilmington College for a year where he took courses in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, then worked on the West Coast for a few years before returning to Siler City to work at Klopman Mills (later became Collins and Aikman). Harold married Rachel Hall on June 28, 1952. He was an active member of the Siler City Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Scottish Rite, American Legion and Forty and Eight. Harold was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Siler City. He enjoyed gardening, growing a variety of vegetables and fruits until his health began to fail. He especially loved growing gourds and had quite an artistic flare for turning them into animals and objects which delighted everyone. Harold was pre-deceased by his wife, Rachel, brothers Jesse Clark Allred (wife Geraldine Phillips), Robert Hershel “Bobby” Allred (wife Carole Booth), and sister Annie Rue Allred Fox (husband Donald “DG” Fox”). He is survived by brothers George Henry Allred (Marie Councilman, deceased) of Bonlee, Jack Allred (wife JoAnn Paschal), sister, Frances Allred Disharoon, both of Siler City; several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday April 12, 2013 from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Friday April 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Siler City. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
