FLOYD “Chilly Willie” HORTON
Mr. Floyd Horton, 57, of Pittsboro, died Sunday (07-07-2013) at Durham Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday (07-11-2013) at Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church. Mr. Horton was born August 26, 1955. Survivors include his mother, Nellie B. Horton; sisters, Helen McNeill of Lemon Springs, Sadie Horton, Eva Arlene Horton, Doris Horton, and Juanita McLaughlin.
JOAN WARREN MADDOX
Joan Warren Maddox, 43, of Woody Store Road, Siler City died Monday, July 1, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Maddox was born in Cumberland County on February 8, 1970, the daughter of the late Olen and the late Mildred (Goodwin) Warren. She was a graduate of Triton High School in Erwin, NC and attended Wake Tech for two years. She attended Center United Methodist Church in Snow Camp and was employed as Sr. Vice President of Client Services with Schooldude.com, and FacilityDude.com. She was a strong team player, a very loving wife, mother and sister. Joan enjoyed playing softball in the catcher’s position, playing golf, fishing and two-step dancing. She did everything with a passion including volunteering at the Duke Hospital Telethon and gardening. Joan loved children and animals. Throughout her life and illness, her faith in God never wavered. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Maddox; daughter, Erin Maddox, both of the home; four sisters, Janice Lee of Siler City, Brenda White of Lindside, West Virginia, Peggy Marske of Semora, NC, Sybil Owney of Smithfield, Virginia, special sister, Miranda Stewart of Wake Forest; niece, Tabor Stewart and nephew, Trey Stewart. The family received friends Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. A graveside service was held Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Palmer’s Grove United Methodist Church, 1211 Palmer’s Grove Church Road, Hillsborough, NC with Rev. Jinho Hwang, Rev. Joseph Park and Rev. Douglas Currin officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Duke Children’s Hospital, Box 2998, Durham, NC 27701, The Erin Maddox College Fund or to Palmer’s Grove UMC.
GENNELL DELENA SPENCER WILKERSON
Reverend Gennell Wilkerson, 75, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 in her Siler City home, surrounded by her children. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church at 491 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Siler City, where she was a lifelong member. The viewing will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 on the same day at the same location. Rev. Wilkerson, an ordained Elder in the A.M.E. Zion Church, was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Spencer and Harvey Alston, and the granddaughter of Geneva McClain Spencer, who raised her. She was married to Carl Fred Wilkerson, Sr. from September 26, until his death in 1983. Rev. Wilkerson was also an extraordinarily active woman in the life of her family, her community and her church. Survivors include four children, daughters, Delena Wilkerson, Bonita Moffitt, Brenda Foxx: son, Anthony Wilkerson, 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
PEGGY SMITH MEDLIN
Peggy Smith Medlin, age 81, of Crossett, AR, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born on February 12, 1932 in Siler City, NC to her parents, William and Laura Lee Adcock Smith. Mrs. Medlin had been the owner of KAGH/KWLT since 1969. She was a Baptist and a devoted wife, mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Medlin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Barry Medlin; one daughter, Cheri Medlin; one son, Keith Medlin; two brothers, John Smith and Bobby Smith; and one sister, Dixie Brown. Survivors include two sons, Bobby Medlin and wife, Quendy of Ft. Smith, AR; Kevin Medlin of Crossett, AR; one brother, Ray Smith of Greensboro, NC; one granddaughter, Kasey Medlin of Monticello, AR; and one great-grandson, Joshua Shook of Monticello, AR. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donnie DuBose officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
ESTHER CORA SMITH LAMBETH
Mrs. Esther Cora Smith Lambeth, 99, formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday, (06-25-2013), at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp. A memorial service was held Friday, (06-28-2013), at 11 a.m. at Lee’s Chapel Christian Church with Rev. James Bowden officiating. Mrs. Lambeth was born on August 1, 1913, in Lee County, to the late Charles Benjamin Smith and Ida Frances Churchill Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Thomas Lambeth and a son, Alfred Thomas Lambeth, Jr. Survivors include a son, William Barry Lambeth, Sr. of Pittsboro; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. TREVA KING CRISSMAN
Treva King Crissman, 92, of Sanford died Tuesday, (06-25-2013), at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough. A funeral service was held Friday, (06-28-2013) at 11 a.m. at Pocket Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Dudley presiding. Burial followed in church cemetery. Mrs. Crissman was born on March 18, 1921, in Moore County, to the late Charles Clifford King and Mae Fergerson King. She was a member of Pocket Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Crissman was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Crissman, sisters, Zelda Blue, Shirley Quinn and brothers Blain King and Richard King. Survivors include her daughter, Sally C. Sloan of Durham; sister, Betty Prim of Carthage; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
DAVID RAUL QUIROZ CASTILLO
David Raul Quiroz Castillo, died Sunday (06-23-2013) in a car accident. Funeral services were held Thursday, (06-27-2013) at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chapel Hill. Interment followed at Westwood Cemetery. Mr. Castillo was born in Caracas, Venezuela on January 3, 1989 to Argelis Quiroz Leal and Rita Consuelo Scardina Castillo. He was a graduate of Northwood High School Survivors include his wife Christina; son Logan; daughter Adriana; mother Rita; father Argelis; brother Ricardo; sisters Eva, Haidyth, and Adriana. SHIRLEY LINDLEY SPIVEY
Shirley Lindley Spivey, 63, of Bear Creek, died Thursday, (06-27-2013) at her residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, (06-30-2013), at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with Rev. Wesley Thomas officiating. Burial followed at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Liberty. Shirley was a native of Randolph County, retired from Resort Wear, and attended Whites Chapel United Methodist Church . She was preceded in death by her husbands, Allerd Eugene Watts, Phillip Spivey, and her parents, Vernon and Maggie York Lindley. Survivors include sons, Ricky Watts of Cameron, Tony Watts of Siler City, Michael Watts of Bear Creek; sister, Robin Renee Williamson of Bear Creek, one grandchild four great-grandchildren. Mr. Marvin McKinney, 53, of Sanford died Wednesday, (06-26-2013) at his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, (07-02-2013) at Staunton Memorial CME Church with burial in Pittsboro Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Synovia Smallwood McKinney of the home; daughter, Keosha G. McKinney, grandmother, Ella McKinney of Pittsboro; sister, Josie D. McKinney of Pittsboro; brothers, Grady D. McKinney of Chapel Hill, Rev. Ricky R. and Marilyn A. Rader McKinney, Sr.; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Myrtle Rogers, 82, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (06-26-2013) at her home. Funeral services were held Sunday (06-30-2013) at Mitchell’s Chapel AME Zion Church. Survivors include children, Elmer Rogers, Jr. of Siler City, Robert Rogers, Hattie Rogers, Kathie Rogers, Johnnie Rogers, all of Pittsboro, Annie Rogers of Bear Creek; brothers, Vernon Brooks of Pittsboro, James Brooks of Danville, VA; sister, Lucille Goldston of Siler City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
ELIZABETH ANN NEW DAVIS
Elizabeth “Libby” New Davis, 70, of Sanford, died Friday, (06-28-2013). Libby was born November 22, 1942 in King and Queen County, VA, to Marshall Carl New, Sr. and Mary Kathleen Powers New. She operated a bookkeeping service in this area. Libby was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving is her husband, Andrew Allen Davis of the home; daughter, Donna Tillerson of Apex; sons, Steve Davis of Moncure, Eric Davis, Butch Davis, both of Rocky Mount, Alex Davis of Sanford; brother, M.C. New, Jr. of Rocky Mount; sister, Jeanette Riddle of Morganton; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, (07-02-2013) at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Friends visited with the family following the service.
