MAGGIE VALLEY — Mrs. Ann Randall Lattimore, 65, of 89 Woodfern Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at home. Born in Cleveland County, she retired from the fabrication packing department of PPG Industries. She was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church in Maggie Valley and a former member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Howard Jr. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Frank C. Lattimore of the home; her father, J.D. Randall of Oteen; her mother, Vernie Emory Whitener of Shelby; one son, Frank Lattimore Jr. and wife, Karen, of Shelby; two daughters, Susan L. Beaver and husband, Dale, of Polkville and Phyllis L. Howard and husband, Charles, of Clyde; two brothers, Doug Randall and wife, Jody, of Newport and Jerry Robbins and wife, Sonja, of Polkville; a sister, Christy Morrow of Beaufort; seven grandchildren, Erin Champion, Adam Beaver, Adriane and Jessica Howard, Zach, Barton and Courtney Lattimore; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Sydney Champion. The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Ledford officiating. Burial will be in the Lattimore Family Cemetery at Polkville. ST. PAULS — Miss Aimee De’Nise Parker, 23, of 3305 N.C. 20 West, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. She was preceded in death by a sister, Michelle Renee Parker; her maternal grandmother, Mazell Ward Newton; and her paternal grandparents, James A. and Louise Thompson Parker. She is survived by her mother, Kathy Newton Parker of the home; her father, Walter R. Parker of Shelby; two brothers, Preston R. Parker of Raeford, W. Darin and Katie Parker of Brazil, Ind.; her maternal grandfather, Hazel Newton of Lawndale; and special friends and caregivers, Kenneth Locklear family of Robeson County, Crystal “T.C.” Smith, Mary Covington and family of Raeford and the teachers of Hoke County Special Needs Department. A graveside service will be Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston with the Rev. James Green officiating. James McMurray
CLIFFSIDE — Mr. James Mal McMurray, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late George P. and Hester Earley McMurray. He retired from the Navy as Aviation Metalsmith Senior Chief after 22 years of service, serving in World War II and Korea. He also retired from Burlington Industries, J.C. Cowan Plant, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Labrato McMurray. He is survived by one son and a daughter-in-law, James and Glenda McMurray of Holden Beach; one daughter and a son-in-law, Dianne and Steve Humphries of Shelby; one brother, the Rev. Wesley McMurray of North Wilkesboro; three grandchildren, Jeremy McMurray, Stephanie Nelson and Arnie Humphries; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel McMurray, Sydney Nelson and Stephen Nelson. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric L. Houseknecht officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. BOSTIC — Mrs. Frances Chapman Shehan, 54, of 145 Harwood Place, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at her home. She was a native of Rutherford County, member of the Bostic Missionary Methodist Church and retired from Drexel Furniture Co., Plant 3 and 5 in Morganton, after 35 years of service, and was the widow of the late Charles Alvin Shehan, who died in February of this year. Her mother, Elsie Pauline Chapman and a brother, Oscar Chapman Jr. also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, the Rev. Chris Bowen and his wife, Christie, of Bostic; two daughters, Regina Weaver and her husband, Ronny, of Ellenboro, Jamie Absher and her husband, Kevin, of Bostic; her father, Oscar Chapman Sr. and his wife, Dessie, of Bostic; three sisters, Shirley Toney and Helen Murray, both of Bostic, and Ruth Shook of Newton; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Bostic Missionary Methodist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Kanipe and Ernie Cole officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. SHELBY — Mr. John Woodrow Borders, 88, of 201 Borders Road, born Nov. 7, 1913, in Mecklenburg County, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. Mr. Borders was a retired textile worker with the Dover Mill Co. Mr. Borders was a confirmed bachelor who stayed home and took care of his mother until her death. He was also known affectionately as the old man in the swing who greeted passers-by both friend and stranger with a wave of his pipe and a nod of his head. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock Fuller and Lela Dillingham Borders; two brothers, Hal J. Borders and Jim F. Borders; two sisters, Hazel B. Kirkendall and Sue B. Kaczynski. He is survived by a brother, Hugh H. Borders of Shelby; and a sister, Burnie B. Benson of Casper, Wyo. He served in the Army during World War II, 100th Infantry Division. He served in the African and European theaters of operation. Among the medals he was awarded were the Silver Star, Purple Heart and three Bronze Campaign Stars. A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Eliza Bell Roberts, 66, of White Oak Manor, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at her residence. Born June 22, 1936, in Grover she was the daughter of the late Roy Sr. and Marvetta Leach Bell. She was a graduate of Compact High School in Kings Mountain. She was an active member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church where she sang in the Hymns Choir until she became ill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Bell; and two sisters, Mary Alice Johnson and Mozell Bell Kilgore. She leaves to cherish fond and sweet memories three daughters, Kay Roberts and Anita Gray, both of Shelby, and Theresa Robinson of Bridgeport, Conn.; three sons, Walter Roberts of Shelby, Bryant Roberts of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jason Roberts of Bridgeport; a son-in-law, Lyodd Robinson of Bridgeport; four brothers, Joe Bell, Roy Bell Jr. and Jerry Bell, all of Grover, and Brodus Bell of Bridgeport; five sisters, Helen Smith, Nancy Wilson and Bertha Bell, all of Grover, Ruth Lee Bell of Norwalk, Conn., and Dorthy Bell of Bridgeport; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
