RACHEL KRISTEN COWETTE
Rachel Kristen Cowette, 37, of Siler City died Monday, February 11, 2013 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Ms. Cowette was born October 13, 1975 in Waterbury, CT and was raised in Thomaston, CT until she moved down to North Carolina.
She leaves behind two sisters, Amy Tallent of Morganton, Holly Rickman of Siler City; parents, Joseph and Susan Cowette of Siler City; eight nieces and nephews.
She attended Litchfield High School, where she received her certificate due to underestimating her abilities to achieve a diploma. She not only went on to get her GED, but also was a few credits short of receiving her Associates in secretarial sciences. She has a sharp wit, ready smile, and a tenacious disposition. She adored her nieces and nephews, and animals. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her but will be forever remembered by the lessons she taught us all… “Don’t let the world define you, but make up your own definition.”
She will have a graveside funeral at the families’ own cemetery with Dr. Eddie McClure officiating.

WILLIAM FRANKLIN “BILL” HERRING
William Franklin “Bill” Herring, 73, of Siler City died Tuesday, (01-29-2013) at his residence.
A memorial service was held Friday, (02-01-2013) at 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating.
Mr. Herring was born in Sampson County, September 1, 1939, the son of Autry and Lottie (McLemore) Herring. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City where he served on the finance committee. He retired from Southland Life Insurance and became the owner and principal of Chatham-Hackney-Herring Insurance & Real Estate in Siler City. He was a member of the Siler City Rotary Club, served on the Chatham Hospital Board and the Siler City Planning Board.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Boyd) Herring; sons, Alec Herring, Charles Herring; sister, Margaret H. Raynor; and four grandchildren.

DAPHNE HAYES MARTINDALE
Ms. Daphne Hayes Martindale, 88, formerly of Robbins died Tuesday, (01-29-2013) at Woodland Hills Care & Rehab in Asheboro.
Graveside services were held Friday, (02-01-2013) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery with Robert Scott officiating.
Ms. Martindale was a Randolph County native and a retired poultry grower. She was a member of Bible Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include sons, Windol Martindale of Seagrove, Floyd Martindale of Robbins; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mittie Nall of Robbins, Lillie Kennedy of Aberdeen; and brother, Walter Hayes of Seagrove.
ELEANOR WINTERS WIESNER
Mrs. Eleanor Winters Wiesner, 87, of Bridgewater, Virginia, formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday, (01-29-2013), at Bridgewater Retirement Center.
A graveside service was held Saturday, (02-02-2013), at 10 a.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with Rev. Donald Thompson officiating.
Mrs. Wiesner was born May 16, 1925, in Wheeling, WVto the late Guy Winters and Elizabeth Roderocker Winters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Henderson Wiesner.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Wiesner Angel of Southport, Elizabeth “Beth” Wiesner Hollen of Waynesboro, VA; sister, Dorothy Coury of Plymouth, IN; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM DAVID “BILL” HICKS
William David “Bill” Hicks, 72, of Staley, died Wednesday, (01-30-2013) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, (02-02-2013), at Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Scott Faw and Rev. Chris St. Jean officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Bill was a native of Randolph County, a retired truck driver for Allens Hatchery, a member of Moons Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the seniors group at Brookdale Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Artis Scott and James Hoke Hicks, and his brother, Robert Scott Hicks.
There are no immediate survivors.

LORI GAYLE GREENE BUCKNER
Lori Gayle Greene Buckner, 42, of Siler City, died Friday, (01-25-2013) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The funeral was held Wednesday, (01-30-2013), at 2 p.m. at South Fork Friends, with Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Buckner was born September 9, 1970, the daughter of Richard and Gayle (Turner) Greene. A native of Cumberland County, she worked in the banking industry and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, B. Henry Buckner; daughter, Mattie Kay Buckner; son, Benjamin H. Buckner, II, both of the home; her parents, Richard and Gayle (Turner) Greene of Carolina Beach; sister, Traci Greene France of Manteo; and brother, Richard Cz Greene, Jr. of Wilmington.
The funeral was held Wednesday, (01-30-2013), at 2 p.m. at South Fork Friends, with Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
ROSEMARIE “BUNNY” KRISCHAN
Rosemarie “Bunny” Krischan, 73, of Siler City died Wednesday, (01-30-2013) at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Krischan was born August 24, 1939 of Authur and Stephanie Krischan. She was of the Baptist faith and had worked for a medical office.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Van Parys of Orlando, FL, Deborah Griffin of Siler City; sister, Nancy Polanski of Buffalo, NY; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

HARVEY LEE STONE, JR.
Mr. Harvey Lee Stone, Jr. of Sanford, died Thursday, (01-31-2013), at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill..
A graveside service was conducted Monday, (02-04-2013), at 3 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Stone was born June 12, 1940 in Pitt County, to the late Harvey Lee Stone and Doris Mae Worthington Stone.
Survivors include a Jerry Lee Stone, a daughter, Karen Stone, both of Sanford; sisters, Peggy Lou Stokes of Ayden, Shirley Boseman of Robersonville, Mary Jane Johnson and Helen Smith, both of Sanford; a brother, Jimmy Lee Stone; and one grandchild.
MARY B. BARNEY
Mary Alace Belcher Barney, 65, of Silver Spring, MD, died Wednesday, (01-30-2013) at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date
Mary was a native of DanvilleVA, and retired from the Food Service Industry. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert William Martin, Sr. and her parents, Robert Lee and Edith Doris Ingle Belcher.
Survivors include a daughter, Sam Martin of Franklinville; sons, Robert William Martin, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Terry Warren Martin of Robbins, Gary Mack Marin of Asheboro, Dale Anthony Martin of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren.
PEGGY LOU COGGINS MORRIS
Mrs. Peggy Lou Coggins Morris, 65, of Sanford, N.C., died Saturday, (02-02-2013) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, (02-06-2012), at 6 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H. Wayne Schlink officiating. The family received friends following the service.
Mrs. Morris was born on June 22, 1947, in Lee County, to the late Roy Albert Coggins and Virginia Adams Coggins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Coggins. She retired as an accounts receivable and payroll clerk.
Survivors include sons, Steven Wayne Howard of Siler City, Mark Morris of Broadway; daughter, Michelle Farnsworth of Cameron; sisters, Frances Howell of Kentucky, Joyce Cameron of Sanford; and twelve grandchildren.
ESTELLA DELOIS RODGERS ALSTON
Estella Delois Rodgers Alston was remembered with a celebration of life service.
Mrs. Alston was born February 20, 1952, the daughter of the late Charlie P. Rodgers, Sr. and H. Euphenia Strickland Rodgers. She attended Chatham High School and graduated from Jordan-Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Howard Alston.
Survivors include children, Lorita A. Lawson of Sanford, Larry Anthony Alston of Louisville, KY; mother, Euphenia S. Rodgers of Siler City; sister, Doris Belton of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Charlie Rodgers, Jr. of Greensboro, Howard of Richmond, VA, Leroy and Bobby of Siler City, Haywood and Robert; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
HARRY C. JOHNSON
Mr. Harry Cleveland Johnson died. Funeral services were held with Pastor Jerry A. Dowdy officiating. Interment followed in New Zion Church Cemetery, Robbins.
He was born in Moore County, February 21, 1952 to the late Joseph and Estella Johnson. He attended Moore County Schools, served in the U.S. Army and retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad.
Survivors include in wife, Edna Pauline Johnson; son, Tracy Lamont Johnson; daughters, Tasha Nichole Johnson of Durham, Taresha Patrice Johnson of Winston-Salem; sisters, Linda Chisholm of High Falls, Shelby McKeithen of Vass, Geniece Powell, Camilla Marsh, Dequilla Spencer, all of Robbins; brothers, Jeffery Johnson, Ricky Johnson, both of Seagrove; and three grandsons.
MATTIE FREEMAN BROWN
Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Shehan Freeman Brown, 94, of Ramseur, died Sunday, (02-03-2013), at The Randolph Hospice House.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, (02-08-2013), at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Harvell officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro.
A native of McDowell County, Mrs. Brown was born January 15, 1919, the daughter of the late Samuel Tilden Shehan and Rissie Elizabeth Wallace Shehan. She was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Seagrove and worked at G.E. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Freeman; son, Curtis Freeman, Jr.; and four grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters, Janet Johnson of Asheboro, Joanne F. Peterson, of Ramseur; son, Boyd Freeman, of Seagrove; sister, Betty S. Garner of Asheboro; eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, (02-07-2013) at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Joanne Peterson.

WILFRED DAFFRON LINDLEY
Goldsboro – Wilfred Daffron Lindley, 82, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.
Mr. Lindley was born in Chatham County on February 21, 1930 to the late Leverett and Dixie Woody Lindley. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Lindley retired from Americal Corporation and was an avid fisherman and wood worker.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Bryant and husband Nick of Kinston, Dawn Crumpler and husband Steve of Goldsboro; one brother, Lester Lindley and wife Jean of Knightdale; one sister, Virginia Buckner and husband Bobby of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Jason Bryant and wife Kellan and Will Bryant, all of Kinston, Derek Crumpler of Colorado and Adam Crumpler of Goldsboro; a great-grandson, Conner Bryant of Kinston; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Pam Howard, Pearl Hinson, Shirley Cooksey and Ernestine Hardee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lindley was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jessie Thrift Lindley, who passed away January 20, 2013 and his brother, Donnie Lindley.
The family received friends Tuesday evening, February 5, 2013 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of his daughter, Dawn Crumpler.
