NANCY DEAL
Nancy Gail Dowdy Deal, 66, of Sanford, died Wednesday, (02-27-2013) at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (03-02-2013) at 1 p.m. at Edgewood Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Hayes presiding. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Nancy was born in Lee County, on February 15, 1947 to the late Shelton Monroe Dowdy and Christine McDonald Dowdy. She worked for Canteen at Coty.

Survivors include sons, Billy “Scooter” Deal Jr. of Surf City, Chad Deal of Sanford; daughter Crystal Deal White of Troutman; sister Ann Dowdy Keck of Reidsville; and five grandchildren.

CHRISTOPHER SHANNON GARNER
Christopher Shannon Garner, 36, of Seagrove, died Friday, (03-01-2013) at his residence.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (03-06-2013) at New Center Christian Church in Seagrove, with Rev. Ralph Smith, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Garner Family Cemetery in Robbins.

Mr. Garner was born in Moore County to David L. Garner and Lola E. Maness. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Quimby L. Garner.

Surviving is his wife, Becky Garner of the home; daughters, Katelyn G. Burton of Seven Lakes, Makala D. Garner, Haley M. Garner, and a son, Michael A. Garner, all of the home; mother, Lola E. Maness of Seagrove; father, David L. Garner of the home; grandparents, Beauford Odell Maness, Louise Moore Maness of Seagrove, and Larry Marie Garner of Robbins.

POLLY GLADDEN WALDEN
Polly Gladden Walden, 54, of Ramseur, died Friday (03-01-2013) at her home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, (03-05-2013) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Holiness Church. Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Asheboro.

Survivors include her children, Avis Gladden, Crystal Brower, Christopher Gladden, all of Ramseur; sisters, her twin, Dolly Allison, Sheena Cheek, Dellayno Delvecchio, all of Ramseur, Sheila Gladden of Piney Ridge, Alice Goldston of Greensboro, Celia Chambers of Asheboro; brothers, Throme Gladden of Richmond, VA, Clinton Gladden of Greensboro, Tony Gladden of Ramseur, Mark Gladden of Chicago, IL, Walter Cheek of Washington, DC; and ten grandchildren.

RUTH EMMA GRAVES
Miss Ruth Emma Graves, 87, of Siler City died Wednesday (02-27-2013) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Monday (03-03-2013) at 3 p.m. at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include sister, Mrs. Maxine Bowden; brothers, Alfred Graves, and Enos Graves, all of Siler City.

REV. GERALD BRIDGES, SR.
Rev. Gerald Bridges, Sr., 87, of Sanford, died Sunday, (03-03-2013) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, (03-08-2013) at 2 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Ira Sutton, Dr. Greg Burriss, Rev. Matt Martin and Mr. Joe Liles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery

He was born in Shelby on October 12, 1925, to the late Benjamin Foy Bridges and Coit Faye King Bridges. He retired from Cool Springs Baptist Church in Sanford, after forty-five years of full-time ministry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian P. Bridges.

He is survived by one daughter, Nan Bridges Hill of Wake Forest; sons, Gerald Bridges, Jr. of Dallas, Tx., Steve Bridges of Hampton, S.C., Larry Bridges of Wilson, Samuel Bridges of Paducah, Ky.; sisters, Carol Brader of Spartanburg, S.C., Janice Moore of Spartanburg, S.C.; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, (03-07-2013), from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

RACHEL MAY MOODY
Rachel May Moody, 62, of Moody Loop Road, Siler City, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

Ms. Moody was born in Alamance County on October 5, 1950, the daughter of Charlie J. and Martha Angie (Phillips) Moody. She was a homemaker and attended Rives Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV and working with crafts. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Henry Moody, and step-mother, Sarah Walton Moody.

She is survived by one sister, Linda M. Macon and husband, James of Seagrove; brother, Charles Moody, Sr. and wife Mary Gail of Victoria, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, and other times at the home of Cat and Chuck Moody, 713 North Third Avenue, Siler City.

The funeral was held Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 3 p.m.at Rives Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Browder and Darrin Locklear officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

DR. HOWARD S. HUSSEY, JR.
Dr. Howard S. Hussey, Jr., 95, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Davis Health Care Center in Wilmington.

A memorial service was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church in Tarboro with Rev. Mark Diehl officiating.

Dr. Hussey was born in Edgecombe County to the late Howard S. Hussey and Margaret Pennington Hussey and was reared by his step-mother, Susan Wooten Hussey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Miller Hussey and a brother, Charles E. Hussey.

Howard was a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. He served as a doctor in the United States Army during WW II, with his tour of duty being the European Theater. Dr. Hussey practiced medicine with the Tarboro Clinic for 35 years. He moved to Wilmington after his retirement and was a member of St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church in Wilmington.

Dr. Hussey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice Leigh Hargrove Hussey; daughter, Jean Hussey Adams and husband Jim of Bonlee; sons, Howard S. Hussey, III and wife Peggy of Greenville, James “Jim” Hussey and wife Gail of Tarboro, William J. “Bill” Hussey and wife Trish of Durham; step-sons: Dr. Clark Hargrove of Haverford, Pa., Alex Hargrove and wife Nora of Wilmington, Brian Hargrove and partner, David Hyde Pierce of New York, NY; grandchildren, Mary-Margaret Hussey Finch, Ryan Hussey, Gwen Hussey, Jim Hussey, Cali Hussey, Ben Hussey, Megan Adams Trogdon, Ashley Adams Whitley, Jayme Adams, Jean Adams, Nelson Hargrove, Nicholas Hargrove, Saskia Hargrove, Alice Hargrove, Alex Hargrove; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Finch, Reid Finch, Annastyn Trogdon, Emmalin Whitley, and Parker Hussey.

Being an avid fisherman, he also leaves behind many good friends at Johnnie Mercer’s Pier in Wrightsville Beach.

We give special thanks to all at the Davis Health Care Center who have become almost like family to us and to the staff at Cape Fear Hospital.

The family received friends at Carlisle Funeral Home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family also greeted friends at the Fellowship Hall at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church following the service.

Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice or Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington, NC.

Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home, Inc., Tarboro.

WILLIAM ALAN SCHULTZE
William Alan Schultze, 47, of Arrowhead Loop, Pittsboro died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mr. Schultze was born in Harris County, Texas on June 25, 1965, the son of Richard William and Joan (Lundy) Schultze. He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School where he lettered in track, baseball, football, soccer and the school choir. William was a graduate of the University of Maryland and a Navy veteran. He was a biogenetics service engineer. In his spare time he enjoyed yard work, home projects, hunting, the outdoors and playing a guitar and making music. William was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth S. Schultze of Pittsboro; one daughter, Emma Joan Schultze of Pittsboro; father, Richard William Schultze of Comfort, TX; one sister, Linda Minter and husband Don of Galveston, TX; one brother, Richard Weldon Schultze and wife Ida of Houston, TX; niece and nephews, Kristin Minter, John and Kyle Schultze

The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Galveston, Texas.

ELIZA “KATHLEEN” CASTEVENS WHITE
Eliza “Kathleen” Castevens White, 70, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, (02-20-2013) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (02-23-2013) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Laws, officiating. Entombment followed at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Born February 11, 1943 in Siler City, she was the daughter of the late Maudie Wheeler Castevens and Morgan Castevens, Sr., and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, William Jerry White; sons, Mark Lee White of Salisbury, Charles Wayne White of Salisbury; daughter, Sherry White Stiltner of Salisbury; brother, Morgan Castevens, Jr. of Bonlee; sisters, Hazel Johnson of Bonlee, Ethleen DiGregorio, of Shenandoah Junction., WV, Jenny Hayes of Bear Creek, Marie Martin of Chapel Hill; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

MABLE OLDHAM LEMONS
Mabel Oldham Lemons, 90, of Bear Creek died Sunday, (02-17-2013) at her home.

Funeral services will be Friday, (02-22-2013) at 3 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. David Hicks and Rev. Clark Davis officiating. Burial was in the Oldham Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Lemons was born October 2, 1922 in Chatham County, the daughter of Henry L. and Mattie (Fisher) Oldham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lonnie L. (Buss) Lemons, son, Lonnie L. (Pete) Lemons, brothers and sister, J. B. Oldham, Sr., Gladys O. Womble and John Oldham.

Mabel was retired owner/operator of Lemon’s Grocery and a farmer. She was a graduate of Goldston High School and was a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Survivors include sisters, Grace O. Dowdy, Frances O. Johnson, both of Bear Creek, Inez O. Dowd of Siler City; brother, Eugene F. Oldham of Bear Creek; two grandchildren five great-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

John William Leonard, Jr.
(August 15, 1961 - June 28, 2011)

Mr. John William Leonard, Jr., 49, of Goldsboro, NC passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Mr. Leonard was born August 15, 1961 to Phyllis Allred Leonard Parker of Salisbury, NC and the late John W. Leonard, Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters: Cathy Brown, Susie Bryant, and Michelle Wells; and step-father, Earl S. Parker.

Mr. Leonard will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Summersett Funeral Home is handling local arrangements for the Leonard family.

MASSALINE MILLIKEN STITH
Massaline Milliken Stith, 68, of Siler City, died Wednesday (02-20-2013) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill

Funeral services were held Monday (02-25-2013) at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stith was a graduate of Chatham High School and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving is one brother, Michael Milliken of Siler City.

MAYBELLINE HARPER MOSES
Mrs. Maybelline Harper Moses, 76, of Sanford, died Sunday, (02-24-2013) at her home.

The funeral was held at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church on Wednesday, (02-27-2013) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bob Copeland presiding. Burial followed at Four Oaks Cemetery.

She was born in Johnston County, on November 6, 1936 to the late Bertie Mae Harper Langdon. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Harper Patterson, granddaughter Amy Leigh Ross, grandson Jeremy Preston Moses and brother Bobby Ray Harper, Sr. Mrs. Moses worked in the tool room and retired from GKN.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Troy Moses; son, Jeffrey Troy Moses of Sanford; daughters, Jessie Lucus of Four Oaks, Melinda Moses Carlyle of Cameron; brother, Charles Johnson of Hampstead; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

MARGIE HELLEN FULBRIGHT HANCOX
Mrs. Margie Hellen Fulbright Hancox, 75, of Cameron, died Saturday, (02-23-2013), at St Joseph of the Pines.

The funeral was held Tuesday, (02-26-2013) at 2 p.m. in the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with her son, Pastor Tony Hancox presiding. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

She was born in Stephens County, Georgia on July 16, 1937 to the late Horace Ray Fulbright and Willie Ruth Craig Fulbright. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilton Robert Hancox; son Richard Dwayne Hancox, sisters Grace Jaynes and Carolyn Leopard. Mrs. Hancox was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons, John Hancox of Olivia, Tony Hancox of Troy; daughters, Ruth Lester of Ikes Fork, WV, Diane Godfrey and Sharon Hancox, Julie Woods of Fort Bragg; brother, Horace Fulbright of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Avis Watkins of Browersville, GA; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
