LONNIE C. “LC” COOPER, JR.

Mr. Lonnie Colay “LC” Cooper, Jr., 91, of Burlington died Monday, (07-28-2008) at the Hospice Home of Burlington.

Graveside service will be held at Rock Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday (07-31-2008) with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

Mr. Cooper, a native of Chatham County served in the US Navy during World War II, and was retired from Owens Chrysler in Winston-Salem as a service technician.

Survivors include son, Cadle Cooper; daughter, Patricia Mitchell; brother, Lloyd Cooper; sister, Irene Hackney, all of Pittsboro; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends visited with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Griffin funeral service in Pittsboro, and at other times at the residence of Cadle and Sarah Cooper.

CHRISTY CARTER MEEKS, SR.

Christy Carter Meeks, Sr., 64, of 413 West Third Street, Siler City died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Mr. Meeks was born August 23, 1943 the son of Morris and Lucille (Smith) Meeks.

Mr. Meeks was a native of Alamance County and retired from Cox Motor Express. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam conflict. Chris enjoyed many hours of wood working and gardening. He deeply loved his family and giving special nick names to all of his beloved grandchildren. He spent many hours spoiling his devoted Yorkie "Rosie". He had a great sense of humor and we will all miss him deeply. We love you!

He is survived by his wife: Linda (Hash) Meeks, one daughter: Sherri Meeks Chrissman and husband, Bobby of Southport; two sons, Christy Meeks, Jr. and wife, Tina of Siler City, Tommy Meeks and wife, Tina of Siler City; two

sisters, Della Apple of Haw River, Jeanette Conklin of Burlington, two

brothers, George Meeks of Burlington, Bill Meeks of Elon; and seven grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held at 2 p.m.Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Brookdale Baptist Church, 1133 W. 3rd Street, Siler City with Rev. Christopher St. Jean officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

ALFRED LEE “JUNIOR” DAVIS, JR.

Alfred Lee "Junior" Davis, Jr., 75, of 6779 Brush Creek Road, Bennett, NC

27208 died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

Mr. Davis, son of Alfred Lee and Stella Phillips Davis, Sr. was a native of Caswell, Virginia and retired from Spence Building Supply. Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Davis; a daughter, Connie Davis; sisters, Lessie Cross, Josephine Webster; and brothers, Dave and Wilfred Davis.

He is survived by two daughters, Vickie Davis Reeder and husband, Tony of Troy, Nancy Davis Brown and husband Dale of Glendon; two sons: Terry Davis

and wife, Angela of Bennett, Jessie Davis and wife, Chrystal of Biscoe;

two sisters: Dorothy D. Phipps of California, Maxine D. Phillips of Asheboro; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The graveside service was held Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Kildee Wesleyan Church, 1021 Kildee Church Road, Ramseur, with Rev. Michael Free officiating

HENRY (HANK) HARRY ABRAHAMS, JR.

Mr. Henry (Hank) Harry Abrahams, Jr. of Julian, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty, officiated by Pastor Daniel Principe.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday evening, August 1, 2008 at the funeral home.

Hank was a native of Hackettstown, NJ. On August 25, 1967 he married Bonnie Middaugh Abrahams. He was a devoted family man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a truck driver all of his life, most recently driving for Carolina Tank Lines in Burlington.

Mr. Abrahams was preceeded in death by his parents, Everette and Harriett Allen and granddaughter, Diamond Paige Abrahams.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Abrahams; daughter Nova Lee Wright and husband, Michael; sons Peter Abrahams and wife Barbra, Hank Abrahams; sister, Barbara Jean Allen; brothers, Gary and Steve Allen; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Alamance (Caswell), 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

MARCIE GUILL

Allie Marsalette Sutton Guill (Marcie) of Siler City, formerly of Danville, VA, died Sunday (07-13-2008).

Funeral services were held on Thursday (07-17-2008) at 1 p.m. from the graveside at Danville Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Losee officiating.

Mrs. Guill was a native of Goldsboro and a graduate of Raleigh School of Commerce, where she specialized in Court Stenography. She was employed by GMAC in Raleigh and Charlotte. She was a charter member of Out of Our Way Garden Club and assisted with Brownie Scout activities in Eden. While living in Danville, she became a charter member of the Norwood Women’s Club, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, and served as a volunteer at Hilltop Gardens. She was a longstanding member of Unity Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Simmons of Reidsville, Jane Reese of Danville, Donna Atwater of Siler City; sisters, Rachel Braswell of Goldsboro, Jean Langley of Clayton; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

DOROTHEA BROOKS CHURCH

Dorothea Brooks Church, 90, of Pittsboro died Tuesday (07-15-2008)

A private service and interment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Mrs. Church was a native of Newark, Ohio.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert E. Church; son, Martin Church of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Lynn Ferguson, Carol Krawetz, both of Pittsboro; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to the March of Dimes, 4112 Pleasant Valley Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, NC 27612.

JILL DOTY “GiGi” LOVINGS

Jill Doty “GiGi” Lovings, 55, of Saxapahaw, died Tuesday (07-15-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Services were held at 12 noon on Saturday (07-19-2008) at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Carl Edwards, celebrant and Rev. Karen Ladd, presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lovings was a native of Nashville, TN., and was a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. She taught middle school English for a number of years, and was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsboro.

Survivors include a son, Teddy Lovings of Beaufort; daughter Carli Haskovec of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Janie Isaacs of Clayton, Janice Mikkelson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother, “Skip” Doty of Siler City; and two grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to either the CORA Food Pantry, PO Box 1326, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to Pittsboro Relay for Life, PO Box 874, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

PATRICIA KELLEY RENZ

Patricia Kelley Renz, 68, of Pittsboro died Thursday (07-17-2008).

A native of Englewood, NJ, Mrs. Renz worked at the Chatham County Health Department, and was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday (07-20-2008) at Pittsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Tripp Harmon officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband Carl Renz; son, Stephen McMannes of New Bern; daughters, Barbara Weiss of Pittsboro, Kelly Wise of Moncure; sisters, Nancy Ober, Doris Eutsey of Dawson, PA; brother, Douglas Kelley of Connelsville, PA; and eight grandchildren.

GLORIA SUE HANCOCK

Gloria Sue Hancock, 51, of Siler City died Monday, (07-14-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Graveside services and burial were held Thursday (07-17-2008) at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allen Chatwood officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelley Keith of Greenville; sons, Dow Rainey of Greenville Dougie Rainey of Southern Pines; parents Robert G. and Helen Matthews Hancock of Siler City; brother, Bob Hancock of Siler City; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

BETTY JEAN CLARK ELKINS

Betty Jean Clark Elkins 68, of Gulf, died Wednesday (07-16-2008) at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (07-20-2008) at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. David Hicks and Rev. Ira Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Elkins was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and employed with First Choice as a CNA.

Survivors include a sister, Ann Rives of Bear Creek; brothers, Alex Clark of Ramseur, Roger Clark of Winston-Salem, Clyde Clark of Siler City; step-brother, Tommy Martin of Gulf; one grandson and a great-granddaughter.

JEANETTE “JEAN” KENNEDY POWERS

Jeanette “Jean” Kennedy Powers, 71, of 8484 Curtis Powers Road, Bennett, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church where she was a member with Rev. Stacey Layne and Rev. Tim Powers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Powers was born in Mecklenberg County, and was retired from the nursing staff of Randolph Hospital. She was an avid reader and never missed “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” game shows. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Powers, Jr. of the home; sons, Phillip Powers and his wife Valerie of Bennett, Tim Powers and his wife Patricia of Archdale; sister, Judy Rankin of Carthage; brother, Ronald Green Kennedy of Carthage; grandchildren, Rachel and Ashley of Bennett and step-grandchildren, Amber and Lauren of Archdale.

Visitation was held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

DAVID LEON HORONETZ

David Leon Horonetz, "Poppy", 61, of 1481 Dewitt Smith Road, Pittsboro, died July 16, 2008 at his home. The funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Meroney United Methodist Church, Bear Creek, with Pastor Jim Whittaker and Pastor Phil Hulgin presiding. Interment, with military honors, followed in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Akron, OH, and a member of Meroney United Methodist Church. Dave served in the US Army, and was employed by Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro. Dave, "Poppy", will always be remembered and adored by his family and friends as a loving husband, extraordinary dad, someone who could fix anything, always willing to lend a helping hand, and always having time for his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Eddie Horonetz of Akron, OH.

Surviving are his wife, Sheila K. Horonetz of the home; daughter, Karla H.

Maness and husband Chris of Bennett; son, Mark Horonetz of Pittsboro; daughter Heather Osburn and husband Garry of Pittsboro; brothers Kenneth Horonetz and wife Aleeta, Roger Horonetz and wife Ann, and Gilbert Horonetz and wife Claudia; and eight grandchildren.

Friends visited with the family on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Griffin funeral service, 396 West St., Pittsboro, NC 27312; and at other times at the Horonetz residence.

Arrangements are under the care of Griffin funeral service, Pittsboro, NC.
